Back in the 50's my father built his own camping/hunting addition out of plywood on the bed of his old Chevy PU Truck. He took that rig everywhere until October of '74, then he started getting sick and passed away in May of '75. It had all the comforts you'd want. Looks nice and comfortable. Respectfully, a couple of suggestions. Improve the chain on the S-hook for securing from the inside. Fire extinguishers, I would suggest two minimum for a vehicle that size running electronics or for any emergency. Given the times we live in I would suggest some trauma pieces to your first aid care. Get tourniquets, blood clotting products, some small tampons for holes (do your research on that one) needle to relieve a collapsed lung, etc. Have limo/blacked out tint for your camper windows. You can get someone to apply it, they’ll do it without writing you a receipt. I’ve sported limo tent on all of my vehicles because of my former uniformed profession. It’s smart. Road flares? Exterior lighting for security, emergencies, etc. Where’s a handgun, AR, or at least a quality shotgun and ammunition. Bear spray is good to have but it will not save your life. Some things, in my opinion, to consider. It’s yours and your family’s lives at stake once you leave the castle. Take a midland radio and a $20 ham radio and/or a radio with emergency channels. Remember, you may be in that vehicle when something bad may happen and no one’s coming to help. Think in those terms and you’ll make the proper additions.

I've got an inverter inside my truck, with protected wiring going to the inside of the bed of the truck, and installed a regular 120v outlet inside the corner, and maybe someday I may install a switchover to hook up to shore power. You have to be careful what you hook into the outlet because it is not a true sine wave inverter. Love your setup, real fancy.

@iNowHateAtSigns2 жыл бұрын
Bob is right that some devices do not like inverters because of the imperfect waveform, but that's not what you have installed. Thats a simple "regulator" or "power supply" converting AC to DC. An inverter would take DC in (from the battery) and give you AC out (typically 120V here in US). I was particularly impressed with your clean, safe, and frankly impressive wiring job.

Love the build, very clean. I’d also think it would be a good idea to build “modules” that you could put in depending on what and where you’d be camping. Maybe a bigger “module” w more drawers that could be pulled out, or maybe build the entire unit on one of those slide out bed shelves, would be cool to slide the entire build out and sleep under the stars if it was temp and weather sufficient! Just an idea…..

My parents did this to two pickups back in the 80s. Built shelving, seats, carpeted the whole thing. It was always fun to go on road trips in the back, flip up the camper door, side windows...get the air in and fall asleep under the sun, while driving somewhere.

Love the build! I'm looking to do something similar with my truck! Was wondering where you got all of your pouches at, what you use to hold you toothbrush and all the upper drawer ones?
@BrianWatersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Thanks bud. Most of the pouches are Maxpedition pouches. Some of them are just generic “edc” pouches I found on Amazon.

You should consider putting a siren/PA on the third switch. It would be a fantastic non-bear-spray option for a deterrent.

Very nice set up. I do want to mention, I find it interesting that a 2020 Ford doesn't have a locking bed on a keyfob.

Thanks, but my tailgate locks with the key fob.

You put together a super well designed and organized truck camper shell. Pretty incredible the amount of powdered options you put in and yet you don't have wires running loose everywhere, that's great work 👍. I love truck camping. I have a Chevy Classic Conversion Van with the full-on EXPLOYER Co package. Great for quick weekends and fishing trip camping.

Love this layout, now I just need a truck. BTW if you get an RGB light or just a red light, you can make that 3rd switch a night light (meaning no blue lighting to mess with sleep algoritms and red light gives you enough to see by when you wake up in the middle of the night instead of blinding yourself with the others).

I just got my g2 license in Canada (I can drive by myself just not on the highway yet till the full g) and I'm so excited for my full g to get a pick up and deck out the back like you. You made it so smooth and not busy. I don't at all have the expertise for that so that end part with the wiring will help. Thanks for making this short little video, it's inspiring💙

I can either charge with shore power, my trucks dc outlet or a solar panel I keep in the truck.

I would use the free switch for a safety exterior light. Perhaps you could secure your drawers so that they cannot open while driving... your truck is really well made! Love it! That's why I couldn't resist making these two suggestions. :)
@BrianWatersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! So, the free switch is now wired to some exterior lights I installed, and I built the drawers to fit very tight so they can’t open up while driving…you have to give them quite a pull to open up.

I think everything is great. However and respectfully consider the idea of fold up doors on the side of the camper. You mentioned the curtains and that’s good for privacy however if you are trying to keep the heat out, The most effective way is to keep the sunlight out. That being said, on these small doors that you could attach fairly easily, you could also install small solar panels and gas struts that would hold them up. They would also provide additional security and shelter if needed. I do not agree with putting gas bottles into a cabinet. You could have a gas leak and it could fill the entire cabin creating a bad situation.
