In one of the episodes where Gizmo Duck appears, Launchpad says that they "used to work for the same guy", obviously referring to Scrooge so Darkwing has to take place after Ducktales. My guess is that Launchpad's flying skills had improved since his time on Ducktales.

I am happy to report that Darkwing Duck was indeed rebooted in the new DuckTales. And let me tell you... IT IS FANTASTIC!!! They have him in Launchpad's favourite TV show, played by an actor named Jim Starling. The show was then cancelled on a serious cliff-hanger, leaving Jim Starling as a former actor doing openings for furniture stores. When Scrooge McDuck's movie studio tries to create a grittier Darkwing Duck movie, Jim Starling finds out his character is being portrayed by a younger fellow who grew up inspired by his show. Starling (with a little help from Launchpad) forces his way into the studio, hoping to become a star again. But he slowly goes insane, and it's up to Launchpad and the new Darkwing to stop him. In the chaos that follows the new Darkwing proves to be extremely resilient, Launchpad makes an eloquent speech about what makes Darkwing a hero, and the old Darkwing performs one last heroic move before getting caught in an explosion. Scrooge cancels the movie. Launchpad convinces the new Darkwing to become a real-live superhero and finally gets his poster signed by Drake Mallard. As for Jim Starling... As the saying goes: "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to become a villain." He became Negaduck.

A handful of inaccuracies but generally well done. I cringe when I hear my name repeated that much. One correction worth noting: Although I pitched and sold the concept of Roboduck (Gizmoduck) and the name "Fenton Crackshell," it was the writers and story editors of DuckTales who turned him into a memorable character, especially Ken Koonce and David Weimers. As to new Darkwings? I suggest you DVR all the new DuckTales and look for clues! Seriously.

A slight correction on a fact. When Negaduck left Saint Canard he went to his own dimension where everything is opposite so Liquidator, Bushroot, Quackerjack and Megavolt didn't "turn" good, they were already good since they were in the Negaverse. The regular Bushroot, Quakerjack, Liquidator and Megavolt were still bad in their dimension. Also I never understood why Tad Stones didn't just declare it a spin off of Ducktales. They mention Duckburg, there's an episode where Launchpad brings up Scoorge to DW (though he doesn't actually say his name, just that he worked for him), Launchpad was in it, Gizmoduck was in it, etc. It makes no sense that Darkwing would take place in an alternate universe.

@@KamisamanoOtaku The Friendly Four are of course the Negaverse versions of the Fearsome Four. But as Darkwing resides in the "real world", there's no Darkwing to lead them in the Negaverse. After Darkwing trained them to protect the Nega-St. Canard, they didn't need him. However... in the Boom comics, Negaduck and the Fearsome Five parted ways and Quackejack goes even more insane after Negaduck destroys Mr. Banana Brain and on the mere mention of Negaduck's name. That could be why this happened.

Fun fact; DD was cancelled in Swedish television due to the violence, apparently some stupid kids had tried some of his moves and jumped down from a balcony, I loved DD when I was a kid, I remember crying alot when they said it was going to be off the air. I remember when they started showing Darkwing later at night normally before Gargoyles I believe, and I would get so happy and sing the theme song my late mother thought I was nuts. SHUSH is likely more a reference to THE MAN FROM UNCLE; UNCLE being the good guys and THRUSH the villainous agency. If I remember correctly, the two DVD sets are the syndicated cuts instead of how they were originally shown. The DVDs also lack the initial "movie" version of "Darkly Dawns the Duck".

There's a good amount of facts in here that I already knew but there's still a lot I wasn't aware of. Regarding the home video releases, if you're really into Darkwing Duck, you could purchase a used VCR or something because you know how not all episodes were released onto DVD? Well, there are two VHS tapes of the show worth getting. One has Darkly Dawns the Duck, even though that was released onto DVD, what is special about this tape is that it has the uncut version & the DVD has the cut version of which I think is stupid because there are some great scenes that are cut such as Taurus Bulba's speech that mentions the size of Darkwing's ego & when Darkwing is in prison, he goes a little crazy on one of the bad guys in there. You see a little of that in the cut version but it goes a little overboard in the uncut version & when watching, that guy recognizes Darkwing as the one who put him in there. In the cut version at the beginning of the episode, you see a teeny tiny bit of that when Darkwing turns a bunch of bad guys into the police but if you see it uncut, after the opening theme, the theme plays again to Darkwing busting a bunch of bad guys so you definitely see him there. The other tape you'd want to look into has an episode not released on DVD & it's an important one too. It's when Darkwing first meets Gizmoduck. There's so much to like about this episode because it's the only episode in the entirety of the series that we see Fenton Crackshell, the rest of Darkwing Duck, he's Gizmoduck. What you'd find when watching it is that we needed far more Drake & Fenton interactions because they're actually a lot more amusing than Darkwing & Gizmo. One little side note, apparently Fenton likes pistachio prune ice cream, eww! Mentioning that episode brought to mind the fact that Launchpad has mentioned Scrooge on a few occasions in Darkwing Duck. He usually says his old boss, I can't remember if he's straight up mentioned him as Mr. McD or anything. It's because of Launchpad's connection with Ducktales that he has Fenton staying with them so that's what brought it to mind. My memories behind this show are of actually not liking it in the beginning funny enough. Since I was a major Ducktales fan growing up, I didn't want to watch Darkwing Duck. When I was little, I caught Ducktales reruns on the Disney Channel but that went away when Zoog Disney rolled around. Somewhere near that time, my grandparents got Toon Disney so whenever I visited them, I'd watch it. Shows like Talespin, Bonkers, & Darkwing Duck, I wasn't familiar with. I knew Ducktales, Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers, & Goof Troop, that is why I watched Toon Disney. When I discovered Talespin, I enjoyed it a lot but Darkwing Duck is a different story & it's because of a fact that you stated in this video. Launchpad is a better flier. I was convinced that it was an imposter. I still watched it from time to time but I wasn't very much into it, only thing I really liked was the theme song which is what got me to watch the entire series in 2010. I was trying to find the Toon Disney bumper that used the song What I Like About You but it was Toons instead of you because I had that particular version stuck in my head for some reason which lead me to watch videos on top ten best cartoon theme songs from the 90's. I saw probably about fifty of these videos, very few mentioned Darkwing Duck & that was getting on my nerves but what really blew me over is in one of the videos where Ducktales got number one, they mentioned that Darkwing was shaking his tail to that song which had me being like alright, I'm going to go watch the Darkwing Duck theme song which had me watching Darkly Dawns the Duck parts one & two which lead me to buying volume one of the DVDs then volume two then finding the rest of the series online & finally, joining the fandom & taking part in a Darkwing Duck roleplay. It's because of this that I was able to get very well acquainted with the series. The editor at the Darkwing Duck forums I often went on had ins with the guys who worked on the comic books & they actually joined us for streaming some Darkwing Duck & they got Tad Stones to join too. Hot Spells was one of the episodes we watched on stream so I suppose I can say I watched a banned Darkwing Duck episode with Tad Stones which is pretty cool.

My favorite Darkwing Duck villains are Taurus Bullba, and Negaduck. Bullba is like Marvel"s Kingpin with horns. A real threat! Negaduck was just plain vicious! Runner-ups are Bushroot and Megavolt . I always felt sorry for Bushroot. All he wanted were friends, and a normal life. Fate made that difficult, but he still tried. He went about it the wrong way. Megavolt was funny due to his insanity! Same with Quackerjack!

Does anyone else remember an episode of Darkwing Duck where Scrooge McDuck shows up at Drake Mallard's home to yell at Launchpad for moonlighting and tells him he has to come back with him to Duckburg? I can't find it anywhere and I know I saw it as a kid.

My two favorite shows as a kid was Darkwing Duck and Batman TAS. And I always felt like Darkwing was an homage/satire on Batman. As I grew up, I noticed a lot of other inspirations, so I just passed it off as them doing just that. But it blows my mind to learn it actually had a direct connection to Batman TAS. Kind of like when I learned that Brad Bird oversaw tons of The Simpsons. Everything really is connected. Also, I've always thought The Great Mouse Detective would have worked better as a TV show. But then I suppose we already have Sherlock Hound if we want that.

...I still own that Gas Gun... I was Darkwing Duck for Hallowe'en one year. Did you also know that Darkwing made an appearance in the Disney On Ice shows? They had a Disney Afternoon themed show, where they sold Darkwing masks that include the purple mask he wears, and a plastic duck bill. ...which I also own. And Darkwing is my favourite character, and ties as my favourite cartoon duck along with Count Duckula.
