I always loved the Iron Giant, as a kid and as an adult. When I finally got it on DVD, I showed it to my nephew who was 2 at the time, and he loved it so much, we would watch it on repeat, which was fine by me, I had to give him my copy to watch at his house and I got a new copy for my house. I hope that the lessons from this movie sticks with him when he grows up. I wanted to show him that he doesn't have to be the person everyone expect him to me, but to be the person he wants to be. I think this is a movie all children to watch, and all adults need to re-watch to be reminded of this lesson.

You know, I hate when 2D and 3D animation are mixed together, but this one always seemed to work for me. I guess it's because of that excellent programming that shifted the lines a bit. More shows and movies need to do that if everything is not already digital.
@realar7 жыл бұрын
MCLegoboy Yes, it needs to be organic to the film. If CG elements have a hand drawn feel then it isn't jarring. Like Long John Silver in Treasure Planet versus the ship or the 'whale'.
@afonsolucas22197 жыл бұрын
I actually kinda like it.
@MCLegoboy7 жыл бұрын
It's nice for the animators because most times it is for vehicles and robots that have very rigid structures that need to stay consistent, but there is always something off about the way they look. Many times they have a different render quality about them that differs from the other components of a show. They may have gradual shadows, specular highlights, and movements that are a little too fluid compared to everything else. There is also detail. The scale may change, but the detail does not, so then it can also seem out of place perspectively on wider shots. It also depends on how much it is used. For a show like Futurama, which you seem to be a big fan of, 3D animation is used everywhere in the show, and so the viewer just gets used to it, but for me, it still feels off at times. One of the earlier times this 2D/3D thing bugged me was Ben 10's Rustbucket. For at least the first Season of the show, it was drawn, and then the out of nowhere at the beginning of a new season, 3D Rustbucket. I kind of get it because it was a very detailed RV so it saved production time, but seeing it in 3D just felt wrong with the new rendering on it, and the moving antennae and rocking of the RV as it turned.

I'm so glad I bought the Ultimate Collector's Edition last week in time for this video. My earliest memory of the were the trailers in some of the VHS tapes I had, and I wanted to see it and own it. My friend recently, before owning the blu ray, later gave me a copy on VHS and I played it over and over. It did make me wanna get the blu ray since I was a collector when it comes to films so I did get it. I remember watching it for the first time on Cartoon Network back when they used to show great films (I think it was the only good film I remember seeing there) and crying in both sadness and joy when it was over. This film deserves much more praise and recognition than they allow. Every time I watched it, the experience got better and better. After looking at the documentary "The Giant's dream", it made me wish I was born earlier to watch it in cinemas multiple times to make financially successful. My top 5 characters from bottom to top are Kent Mansley, Annie, Hogarth, Giant, and Dean. It's not only my top animated films, but one of my top films period.

You know despite the number of times I've seen this film I never questioned once why didn't the Giant use his weapons to destroy the missile. I think it sent a more powerful message that despite the fact he was created as one, he is more than just a weapon

The Iron Giant is #4 on my Top Ten Favorite Non-Disney Animated Movies List. First of all, I like how drawing animation takes center stage in this movie. Although I do like computer animation on occasion, I prefer to see CGI as a side dish to drawing animation. This movie is one of the prime examples of this preference. However, this only proves that I am impressed at how well the drawing and computers blend together. Secondly, Hogarth is my favorite character; not just because he is the child, but also because of the compassion he shows for the CGI robot in the title. Many people say the friendship between Hogarth and this robot is the most touching part of this movie. I agree, and since this is the more child-friendly part of the movie, this is my favorite part of the writing as well. I wish the Iron Giant stayed underrated, since that is why it became so popular in the first place, but this wish only proves that I too appreciate its great qualities. This is why I could not be happier to let this movie into my list of favorite Non-Disney Animated Movies List.

One of the three animated film I rated 10/10. This one with Wall E (2008) and Loving Vincent (2017). But this one place a good place in my heart.

I hope they don't make a sequel, it just doesn't seem right to the story.

Bp1033 You know, the sequel book mentioned there isn't a sequel to this story, as in, it doesn't continue this story, it's simply another story in the same universe. Hogarth makes an appearance, but it's very minor, to the point the second book feels like its own story. So making a movie out of that book wouldn't be too bad and wouldn't hurt the first movie in any way, though it certainly wouldn't have the same impact the first one did. The second book has more of an environmentalist message, so it's not really all that ground breaking.

What if they made a sequel where Hogarth is an adult and explores the world and finds the iron giant in the antarctic and they go back to rockwell to see what everybody is like now and their reaction to see a hero they all thought died

What about a live action iron giant. Like a remake but in real life.

Imagine if other giants came to destroy earth and he had to stop them, while being inspired by superman
