Huh, so in the comics Miles dates Kate Bishop. While, Hailee Steinfeld plays Kate Bishop in live-action, while also voicing Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Verse as Miles' love interest. Interesting, to say the least.

Miles' Spider Sense isn't stronger than most spider-people, quite the opposite. It's limited severely by its range so it's more like a proximity alarm where others like Peter are maybe a radar. Which is fine because his other powers more than make up for it.

Any alternate Peter Parker needs to have his/her own world built around him/her, as we saw with Spider-Noir, Penny, Spider-Ham and Pavitr. Since they weren't going to do that for a black Spider-Man, it was better to make the person under the mask a whole new character. And I rather like the idea of a new Spidey taking the reins from Peter Parker when Peter can no longer do the job alone or at all. I also like that they didn't write Miles as a diversity token, even though that's what was demanded of them. He was just a boy saddled with Spidey powers who also happened to be Afro-Latino. He was written as a person first. And since they let him be a real, true character, he ended up being one of the best iterations of Spider-Man ever. Amazing what can happen when you treat minorities like real people capable of anything, instead of like tokens to be pitied and babied and told that they'll never achieve anything, so they should just rely on the Dems (aka the party of slavery) for their every need. I still wanna know how a black man born in the late 20th century ends up with the name Jefferson Davis, though. No wonder he took his wife's name.

Honestly? Miles just doesn't really strike me as a very interesting Spider-Man. His personality is nearly identical to Peter's. His decisions, also identical. The writers wanted to make a Spider-Man that was black, but also one that long-time fans could get along with. So they just made Peter black, gave him some new parents, and make Uncle Ben into a tragic villain. It's a waste. Miles could be so much more. Or less. Anything. Just, something different. His powers also just strike me as a little lame. Invisibility, however-strong-the-writers-feel-like "Venom," an apparently superior Spider-Sense, equal or greater physical attributes to Peter, etc. A plain upgrade isn't any fun. There's no exchange. There's no tragedy. For all the highs, there are few and shallow lows. It's like a Sonic OC that's had billions of dollars worth of animation budget shoved down his throat. Miguel is a MUCH better approach as far as powers go. He's awesome. Love Miguel. His motivations aren't ever really explored very thoroughly. They're not enough. With Peter, in his comics, you can feel his desperation. He makes it clear why exactly he feels responsible, and his struggle sometimes gets the better of him. Not Miles, though. It may just be a difference in quality of writers, though, since that sort of thing happens a lot, to many other characters. Miles has never really gotten to be his own character. He has always been Black Peter, and I think he'll always be that way, too. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, I guess. A lot of fans want that. It just feels like a waste.
