What a horrible hack job. In 2 years it will be back to the original rustbucket but worse. Restored? no, it's not restored. A used cars sales person would be proud of you. Did you just paint black over the rust on the lower sides? I'm not bashing you man but really...
@the-inevitable-jim
@the-inevitable-jim 4 күн бұрын
You're missing the whole point of the video. Making something useable that was given up on is the point. If it is a pile of rust in 2 years, that's great! That means someone got 2 more years of use out of something that nobody saw the useable value in. Thanks for watching!

Not bad. I'm willing to bet the next owner will get a generation out of it. I painted my old camaro with rustoleum and it stood up to a Tornado, hail, a fender catching on fire and much more and still you can buff and get a shine out of it. It's great stuff that lasts.

Great job Jim. I will note that whenever you encounter these maxi vans, to thoroughly inspect the frame, especially around the steering box bolts. The frames of these post 87 vans were made of harder steel, and didn't flex as well as the older ones did, and thus end up cracking leading to some dangerous situations. Hope this one works out well for whoever ends up with it. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Boys & Girls Club in Seattle drove a Dodge window van into the Pick & Pull. "We don't want to bother to sell it, we have a new van, so we're just going to junk it." It had 62K miles, nothing wrong...me & a buddy pulled the powertrain; I got the engine, he got the transmission. When I stripped the thing down? Beautiful inside. Popped it 0.030" over, scored some JE Pistons from a friend (NIB), put a better roller cam in it, and an Edelbrock top end on it (I used the 308 heads, with a little clean up & good machining) on a 318 in a Valiant sedan. Absolutely a gereat runner, shocked that the B&G Club would waste the money like that, not wanting to be bothered...btw, there is no frame, it's unibody

Sometimes I wish I could do this kind of "restoration" legally in my country, at least on my own stuff. But nah, I would never get through inspection like this. That floor patch maybe if done from the underneath and hidden a bit better but the rust spots on the rockerpanels, no way to hide that good enough to pass. And I would have to send someone else to get the inspection done. The inspection guys don't like how I look and fail me on that alone especially with a van.

Those 5.9 and 5.2 run forever. I had alot of these ram wagons. That rot can be prevented if you pull the rubber plugs out behind the rockers and flush them. The vans just weren't as good after 97. Got too complicated.
