Tech of Tomorrow doom vulkin. It doesn't support sli. which you may know I guess and just be showing vulkin. I would have liked to have seen it in OpenGL. I have two 780s and in single vulkin is best but you do get ahead with OpenGL and sli.

No one realizes this because no one here runs these types of crazy rigs. Well I do run these types of rigs. And I can tell you that he's maxing out the PCI 3.0 8x lane (PCI 2.0 16x speeds). It's why the 4K scaling is so awful, not even the HB bridge can save it. X99 is the only platform where these beasts should be run with in SLI.

I stopped doing SLI after using 3x660 Ti's and having to deal with the lack of support and microstuttering in games. Before that, I had dual 8800 GT's and GTS 250's. Since then I've had the 780 Ti, 980 Ti and will be picking up a water cooled 1080 Ti to prevent throttling and lower the fan noise. For best consistent performance, always buy the best single GPU that you can afford!

yeah i prefer single cards over sli or corssfire even though finding drivers and profiles is no problem as far the companies provide it in the long run is just toooo much work so say 2x1070 even if they are faster than the 1080 i much prefer to get the guaranty extra performance going directly with a 1080 or 1080 ti than having to keep an eye for fixes ...games that not supporting the it at all etc etc i also fix my friends pc's remember building a 3570 for a friend and he wanted to get 2x 560 ti because they where faster than the 670 and he was pushing for it ... so i told him "since i am the one fixing your pc when ever is a problem if you go for the 560ti's then expect 0 help from me figuring out what is wrong with them when they do not work as intended ... he brought the 670 after all !"

i got two 1080ti - my usage case is different as i need the extra cuda cores for game art creation. photogrammetry uses them, so more cards = more speed. Also i use octane for rendering which also uses cuda cores for speed.

More cores =/= more performance. The 58xxK or 59xxK, or 69xxK series might have done better, but not by much. It's been proven time and time again that the only difference (at 1440p and 4K) between 4c/8t and 8c/16t processors is about 5 fps, AT BEST, so its not the biggest bottle neck (especially since its normally closer to 2-3fps)

There's a guy (Bang4buckpcgamer) who has a 5960X overclocked to 4.4ghz, he has gtx 1080's in sli and he's getting better performance than Elric is getting with 1080ti's, No hate or anything to anyone. Running 2 GPU's at 16x/16x helps, there's a performance loss when you're running SLI at 8x/8x, which is what you get with the mainstream platform...

Lmao dude since when do games take use of more than 4 cores? Hell since when are they even efficient at hyper-threading? Everyone knows 6700k/7700k is the best gaming processor you can buy right now in terms of fps. And even then we are only talking like an extra couple frames compared to the 6600k/7600k.. A workstation? Sure but gaming.. Hell no the price per performance is outrageous and not even as good unless your game happens to use more than 4 cores/threads...

Luis Ortiz he uses a 6850k (which is what I said you could probably get better performance out of). and also, theres a 5% loss worst case scenario going from 16/16 to 8/8, and its usually only 1-2% loss, if any losses at all. also, overclock vs stock is never a fair comparison, since overclocking always gives better results, since youre increasing the each individual core speed.

Pick up the best 1080 ti you can find now. Buy a second one down the line to improve performance for a cheap buck. That is what I did. I bought the 660 ti, a few years later I picked up another and could play a few years more until I had to upgrade.

+wakifo well from all the indications of early demos most likely seem like the vega will fall between 1080 and 1080ti maybe equal to the 1080 even there is an argument that it might be on a more apealing price point and the freesynch monitors beeing really a lot cheaper ... hard to say you can check adoredtv's video about vega he did lately he favors amd a lot and the prognosis is not that good might be a terrific card but the size of the core is smaller than the 1080ti so less transistors except if amd pull a rabbit out of the hat i do not think it will beat the 1080 ti i try to be as subjective as possible here and i hope i am wrong

Nvidia Inspector can solve a lot of those SLI problems if you are patient enough to try it, or search for a good profile on some foruns, take Resident Evil 7 as example, i run it with my 1070's SLI always above 4k@70 frames at ultra settings + HDR with Batman arkham origins profile. Sli only worth if you're not lazy enough to wait for a official profile, for now 4k@60fps can only be achieved with SLI.

Mc Donalds yeh 1080 ti man, its around 65% faster. it will beat 980ti sli, you also have 11gbs of ram, games are starting to use up the 6gbs like watch dogs 2. 1080ti will last you years. i have a 980ti ASUS STRIX with 22% oc increase which is good.... but time get a 1080ti and give the 980ti to my girlfriend for her pc lol ;). This is why I said no to 1080, its a good card but not worth it when there is the ti series. rather wait.

You can sell a 980 TI on ebay for like $300-325 nowadays without much issue. So if you sold your two cards you would have $600-650 or so, which is already just shy of enough to buy a single 1080 TI. A stock speed 1080 TI is basically equal or a tiny bit faster than SLI 980 TI's, but the 1080 TI can be overclocked from the ~1500mhz stock speed to around 2,000mhz so you definitely beat out SLI 980 TI's with an overclocked one since you typically gain about 12-15% with that big of an overclock.

Strange, Battlefield 1 has 71FPS in 4K, while Jackfrags tested a 4K monster with 2x Titan X 4K and had over 100FPS in multiplayer constantly.

This is kinda off topic of the video, but it's close enough - do you know any information about the 11 series coming out? Or will there be a vega card that competes with the 1080 price category? Not looking to get into 1080 ti pricings. I have someone who wants to buy my gtx 1070 for $350 and I figure with the price drops of the 1080's I would just use that money to get a cheap upgrade now, but I would hate to get a 1080 then in a few months the 11 series comes out. That's kind of a catch 22, though, because while I currently have someone on the hook for $350 I may not be able to sell it for that same price once the 11 series comes out so I'm trying to find a balance between selling it while it's still worth more, and getting the best upgrade within that timeframe.

Hey everyone, atm I run 2 980ti on SLI on a 4K monitor, my CPU is an old i7 2600k and it's bottlenecked as heck, if I manage to change CPU/mobo, should I sell my GPUs for a single watercooled 1080ti from EVGA or G1 version from Gigabyte when those come out? I know I'll gain Vram with the single card, which is important on high resolutions, but single 1080ti vs 980ti sli?? . . The reality is that newer games always push the graphical boundaries of what's possible so thoughts of consistent 4K 60fps with all games will always be a long way off. Not notice how Watch Dogs 2 and GR Wildlands both struggle hard with the new card? New cards will always perform well on older titles but ones that are pushing the limits new graphical features will always take a heavy hit

4k gaming have to be optimized... I mean you should have a 1080 ti ... or some other in SLI to run smoothly 4K but this is largely because of the optimization of the game we play actually. They are done and tested in max 2k. ( yes they test them in 4K too but they are basicly made to run under this scale. )

Great video ! big thumbs up. My 3 way SLi adventure started with 3x GTX 280, then came 3x GTX 470, then 3x GTX 580, 3x GTX 670, 3x GTX 780, 3x GTX 970, 3x GTX 980Ti and now the 3 way SLi endeavour ends with 2x GTX 1080Ti - RIP 3 way SLi...on the bright side, now there's less money to spend on graphics. Selling my 3x 980Ti's covered the cost of one 1080Ti, and since 2015 I already saved up for the 980Ti replacements.

You really need x16 x16 pcie for SLI scaling in 4k especially and benching games in DX12 to see the scaling is misleading.

GTAV at 4k gets more FPS than 1440p How sway? SLI seems to be VERY VERY poor majority of games...Not sure if its something that NVIDIA needs to fix or, there is no fix for it lol

I fear that the next gen GPU's will all bottleneck current gen CPU's in many games if there is no huge performance improvements in the next couple of years. Performance of GPU's are going to deliver 50% over previous generations while CPU's are improving around 10-15%. What do you think about this issue?

The game developers today are just too lazy to support good sli scaling. Back in the days of GTX 680, the scaling was about more than 85% performance boost on 90% of the games.

Oh man, the drivers in SLI are just not optimised, some games are incredible in SLI but I suppose you're getting almost double performance in some games for little more of the Titan XP, also, Metallica reference :P

History of me tnt2, 4mx, 5700, 6600, 6800ultra, 7900gs, 7900gs sli, 9800gt, 9800gt sli, 460, 460 sli, 760, 760 sli, 780, 780 sli, and now a GeForce 1080. I will NEVER go SLI again. almost no games have support at launch and close to half never get optimized for it. I learned my lesson on 780 sli, it's just not worth it.

Do you think your CPU is in anyway bottlenecking your SLI setup? I have a 980 Ti and I kind of want to upgrade to a 1080 ti since driving BF1 at 144hz is a pain in the ass.

I just finished Rise of the tomb raider using gtx 980ti+i3 6100+8gb ddr4 2400mhz, max out, dx12, 1080p, Vsync on = 70fps :D

come on HellRich you're cramming 1400hun of GPU into 1000 of system. much of that scaling is potentially hamstrung by the system. try again in a more legal system

Another informative test, thanks ToT If you want all the performance that Pascal 1080Ti delivers match it up with Intel and forget about AMD's over hyped IPC inferior Ryzen especially in SLI GTX 1080 Ti Test on Ryzen and Intel Kaby Lake Ryzen vs against Kaby Lake in four benchmarks that are specific to gaming with the brand new GTX 1080 Ti. The 1440P scores also showed that the average frame rate was 22% higher on the Intel platform, so when it comes to 1080P or 1440P gaming performance the Intel Core i7-7700K and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti pair together nicely.

The Fallout 4 amd dirt 3 results don't look right how good performance double-a 1440 and then practically nothing for 4K I understand one of the other games 1440 a single performing better than a double and then at 4 k performing with almost a 40% increase but to Go reverse seems CPU limited man. can you revisit those 2 games along with Tom's Clancy with a 6900 k or overclock the s*** out of the 6700. your test rig is unbalanced for high-end gaming someone that would buy two 1080ti would not have a 6700 especially at 4 gigahertz. actually a good bunch of your results look CPU Limited I wonder if you checked utilization I can bet in a few games the CPU would be pined at 100%
