Can you tell the difference between 10k and 14k gold jewelry without looking at the stamps on them, testing it with a machine or using an acid test? Just by looking at it these gold chains, let's see how well you can tell the difference between different purities of gold, 10kt and 14kt. I have both 10k and 14k. I like 10k because of the durability and strength. I like 14k because of the near close natural color and purity. Both have great characteristics and properties.

Thanks for watching. I think 10k is underrated. It doesn’t have the resale value that the higher purities have, but it’s still going to increase in value, and you can still get cash for gold later. And if you’re never going to sell anyway, an even better reason to buy 10k. I haven’t bought 10k in a long time, but if I saw a 10k piece I liked, I’d buy it. Stay tuned and thanks again. ☺️

Ive heard you mention in previous comments your opinion on hollow vs Solid my question to you do is whats your opinion on semi solid? Do you view it on the same level completely hollow or do you put it a step above hollow but a step below solid?
@hiphopjewels
@hiphopjewels 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the channel. I have a new video coming soon. I consider semi-solid another way of saying semi-hollow, which is basically just a hollow gold chain that they want you to believe has a thicker outer surface than the average hollow chain. I’m not buying it, and consider semi-solid, semi-hollow and hollow all the same. You can always check the weight to get an idea. I think hollow chains are too easily dented and bent, and I wouldn’t buy those again, unless it’s a pair of earrings. Earrings don’t take as much damage, are easily lost and usually cheaper and low weight anyway.

@@hiphopjewels ok thanks for the response I did see a video on Jacoje explaining the difference the chain I am getting is a miami cuban 8mm 24” in 14k weighs 38grams which weighs more than my 10k 22” 4mm DC rope that is completely solid. i mean i consider my cuban to be pretty decent in weight considering its “hollow” and I’ve also heard that cubans are pretty much the only chain that you can take the chance on of not going solid due to the strength of the link but from my understanding in terms of gram weight and durability there is a difference even if its not a huge difference thanks again for replying to me 😊

Thanks for watching. That’s a great question actually. If I’m in a place I’m not comfortable, and not in a venue with security, at friend’s /family’s house, I simply tuck the chain until I get somewhere I feel more at ease. When it’s not warm, I usually walk around with a jacket on anyway, and strangers on the street don’t know what I’m wearing under the jacket. I might do a video about that question. The chain has to fit the event or occasion, not just for style reasons, but for safety reasons as well. I carry a gun sometimes too, not that I would necessarily shoot anyone over property, but it helps to know I could if they used a weapon to try to rob me. Overall, I try to wear them where I feel comfortable. Quick question about the UK. Would those 4mm size chains be considered big in the UK? Here in the US, those 4mm size chains wouldn’t draw any attention by themselves. With a big pendant on it, it will draw attention. That 7mm will turn heads here though, and the long 30” chain too.

@@hiphopjewels hi yes, that makes perfect sense. Its for venues and style, not for showing off in public unless theres security. Great stuff. We are not even allowed pepper spray here in the UK so thats why crime has risen. Sadiq Khan banned "Stop n Search" so now more or less every city youth has a knife. London isnt safe anymore... I think anything like a 4-6mm chain wouldnt draw that much attention, so long as its under a jacket. Yes might be worth doing a video about the subject :) ... So for example going to a DJ freestyle faceoff event, then of course show ya bling inside. Going down the shops at 9pm to get some Cider... probably not LOL. Nice chatting to you. I lived near Brixton, had a Jamaican Girlfriend and used to go to Squat parties there. Was all ok. Also remembering my mate who lived behind the Brixton Tube station. I used to go down there to see him, say hello to different groups hanging outside shops ... until later he said "what you doing? everyones scared of you! youve got street cred" im like Wha-the?. Apparently all those groups i had been saying hello to were rival gangs, and i had no fear talking to them or walking down stab alley. Thanks for watching the video. ☺️ As you learned from the video, it’s hard to tell the difference between 10k and 14k by the color, even in person. Are you buying online? If so, buy from a reputable seller, and ask them if there is a color difference between the two. Also consider whether a thicker chain is more important to you than the color. The 7mm will draw more attention, and honestly might have you watching your back in some settings. The 6mm draws attention too, but not as much. If you want to look good and have more gold value, go for the 14k. But, if you really want to be flashy, and not as concerned about the gold investment in the future, the 7mm 10k is the way to go. No average person will be able to tell the purity of your chain by looking at it. But, you will know the truth, and that’s all that counts, or not, depending how you look at it. I hope that helped. Thanks again. 💎😉

@@ianwoodward8019 I’m glad it helped. You will definitely notice a difference between the 4mm and the 6mm/7mm. 4mm is a respectable size, but it’s still a size people see pretty often. So, when people see 6mm and up, they stand out a lot more. You’ll also notice the difference between 6mm and 7mm. If you want the presence and to turn a few heads, go for the 7mm. Also consider if you’ll have a pendant on the chain and how it will match the two sizes. I bought from direct gold and diamonds on Ebay. It’s a reputable seller.

For me it’s the principle. I would be uncomfortable wearing anything less than 14k. I would feel like a perpetrator. Ditto for hollow chains.
@hiphopjewels
@hiphopjewels 2 жыл бұрын
To be considered real gold in the USA it's 10k and up, a lot of other countries like Australia, it's 9k. So, I'm never uncomfortable wearing it. It will not ever turn green, and it has good resale and scrap value, plus it's more durable than the higher purities anyway. Convincing people there's something wrong with 10k is jewelers' way to get them to spend more money. It's cool if you have the money to spend, but if not, I want people to realize their options. There are levels to it. So, on the bottom tier there's totally brass or steel, then there's gold plating or gold filling over brass/steel. Then there's solid gold, but hollow (flimsy and fragile lacking weight) in various purities. Then, there's solid gold (not hollow) in different purities as described here. I can sell that 10k stuff at any place that says "cash for gold" or on Ebay/pawn shop and walk away with cash based on the weight. No shame in my game. A person who prefers 18k can give the people who wear 14k the same side eye. And the people who wear 24k can look at the 18k lovers the same way. It's all what you like and want to spend. For me, as long as it has resale value, durability and the look I want, I don't mind it. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video. Stay tuned.

@@hiphopjewels what I generally see in comment sections when the 10k topic comes up, is people want the look of gold at a cheaper price. This is the same reason why people get hollow link chains. I have a 24in 4mm Franco in 14k and it weighs 128 grams. If it was Cuban it would be more like 8-9mm, A hollow Cuban would be more like 11-12mm. It all boils down to what people’s perception of value is. People tent to like to feel like their getting more quantity for the money. I like to feel like I’m getting more quality for the money. It’s hard to feel the difference in weight of a 10k and 14k necklace, but you can certainly feel the difference between 10k and 18k. That being said, my next purchases will be 18k and platinum, respectively.
@hiphopjewels
@hiphopjewels 2 жыл бұрын
@@supertriz I appreciate your comments on the topic. I haven't bought hollow since I was a teenager, but believe even that's okay for a necklace with light pendant or earrings and on a person who is not going to do anything active while wearing their jewelry. Hollow should never be a bracelet or a ring, because they take the most damage. Solid 10k is definitely for those who want the gold look at a cheaper price. But, it also has the durability that the hollow stuff doesn't have, which puts it on another tier above it. It's even slightly more durable but less valuable than 14k. Honestly, in my lifetime, I moved from hollow to solid 10k, to 14k, and now have a few 18k and 24k pieces. As I got older and made more money, that influenced my decisions. But, after my hollow bracelet got smashed as a teenager, I never wanted anything hollow again. I still buy the hollow gold hoop earrings though, because nothing is likely to make contact with them. And, I don't do gold plated or gold filled because I have sensitive skin and want things to last. It's an interesting conversation. I don't buy 10k anymore, unless it comes in the form of a free chain with a 14k pendant I bought. But, if I couldn't afford a higher purity, I would be just fine with buying 10k. Thanks for chiming in on this subject. Please tag me when you get the next pieces, I'll definitely watch the video and love to see a review. Respect.

@hiphopjewels 11 ай бұрын
Color is a LOT hard to tell, maybe the same exact piece someone could tell the weight difference, but jewelry, in general is pretty light. Most can’t feel a matter of a few grams difference in their hand. And, it’s highly unlikely they’d have the same exact two pieces to even compare them in the first place. If someone is buying gold as an investment, they should just buy gold bullion and stay away from jewelry altogether. A 24k piece of jewelry was not made for free so it has to be marked up to cover the cost of labor. Those looking for the best return on investment should not be buying gold jewelry anyway. For investments, buy bullion instead. I like to wear jewelry and don’t buy stuff to turn around and sell it. So, I buy what I like. Thanks for watching.

Then, those with diamonds will make fun of the 24k wearers because 24k is too soft to hold stones securely, so they don’t like 24k. 24k is not elegant enough.
