He is also very un-celibate for most of the series. He’s entwined with Angela one way or another for over half, and has success with other women throughout; in NYC with the basketball team, at Pam’s wedding, the blonde he almost marries at the end, whatever happened with his former babysitter 🤢 from “Dinner Party”. The man is getting laid. The defining, titular characteristic of incels is that they don’t. I’d hate to think that anyone who has fashioned values and likes Star Trek is automatically an incel. There are, especially in the first 7 seasons, lots of deep, compelling, thoughtful, insightful themes, scenes, characters etc. The comedic shows that survived beyond a couple of seasons typically have depth, compassion, insight etc that provide underpinning for the fart and sex jokes 😅

I find it very interesting how much of the ranking depends on someone's favorite character, especially in earlier seasons. For example, I see that Halloween or Michael's Birthday are not very pleasant for you because Michael is your favorite character and you hate seeing him act like an asshole. I personally adore these episodes because they have one of the sweetest Jim and Pam moments, because those two are my faves. 24:35 I disagree that Dwight was out of character when he went against Michael's back for a promotion. You see, the writers explore it more in future seasons, but Dwight really clings to power, not to a person. He likes Michael and enjoys his company only because he sees Michael as a way to be promoted and obtain more power in the office. It is quite clear in season 6 or 7, when Jim is promoted to be co-manager, Dwight not only loses respect for Michael, he loses interest in being his friend. So I think this episode is the beginning of Dwight's character journey in a way.
@razkable3 жыл бұрын
he also sees being an ass kisser is not the way to the top...he genuinely likes mike but mike is a dick to him too.. and eps like dwight's speech and health care prove why dwight may want mike's job because he knows mike sucks at it and is a bad friend..dwight puts the sake of the company over his bond with mike...rightfully so..thats who dwight is..after all..he cares for everyone's sake and only does it when angela threatens him that everyone will lose their jobs if he does not and she may also stop liking him so he has to do it...he says to jan he thought about this for a long time and put effort into the pros and cons...we saw his struggle with the choice..he really did not want to do it and was not going to without angela pushing him...but then he did as he realized for the sake of others he has to betray his mentor...it makes sense with his character...the fact he accepts doing laundry and being a dunce on a chair with a hat proves he is a good follower and knows his place when hes caught ...he could just get another job but he cares too much and knows his sales matter and is what keeps the others employed at a failing branch at a receding paper company as digital and tech takes over...thus mike stops being mad at him..he wants dwight to be manager one day but wait for it and earn it so hes ready annd knows what not to do....dwight was eager to skip steps and felt entitled to it because of his sales and butt kissing

I personally like how Michael will go from being sympathetic to a “villain” pretty consistently because it balances him out as a person and as a boss. He is obviously ignorant throughout the series which causes him to be unbearable and pretty awful at times but he’s still grounded in his humanity because we can understand his intentions are usually always wholesome he just goes about things the wrong way. If we didn’t have episodes where he makes terrible mistakes than it just wouldn’t be the same Michael.

I never understand how people see Michael as the sympathetic character, his intentions are almost always selfish and he's an awful boss, he never really redeems himself until his arc with holly. Unlike other characters like Jim or Andy where their bonds in the office feels earned, seeing Dwight and Jim become actual friends feels good, seeing how the office coming to respect Andy after he sticks his head out for them feels good, but Michael just got all that without really earning it. Do you just not like any conflict in the show? Noticing anytime there’s something heavy, you count that as a negative.
@ernestoagapitogarcesconyad17103 жыл бұрын
it's not surprising that someone wants a sitcom to be funny. conflict drives the plot a lot of the time, and that's fine, because it's funny. even then, a lot of the Jim/Pam related conflict in the early seasons which distinctly *isn't* played for laughs is viewed as a positive on this list.

What works for The Office is it's just not a comedy show. It has a heart and that's some scenes will gut punch you. Jim-Pam story has a feel of romantic movie. It's not treated as the Ross and Rachel story line. Dwight being one of the funniest character just straight up goes to depression when Angela dumps him and you don't laugh at him, you feel for him. Michael though being idiotic still makes you cry when he leaves The Office. If anyone thinks it's just a comedy show then haven't really understood what it stands for. It's undoubtedly the greatest creation on TV. Sue me ❤️

i honestly think nelly could have been a really good character. they way they introduced her was weird-like they made her really hateable, then she became a series regular, and they kinda forced her upon us. her storyline where she was trying to be an adoptive mother was really sweet i felt, but it was really forced. so i really do think she had a lot of potential, they just did her really dirty
@blue-vr8dd Жыл бұрын
it sucks cos Catherine Tate is awesome. she's pretty fuckin funny. her just kinda stealing Andy's job infuriated me, and then finding out that her life is pretty shite kinda works. she's just really good at manipulation and talking her way in and out of things, using it only to her own gain because life has dealt her a bad hand and she continues to get screwed over by people. there was so much room for her to learn to change and be nicer, learning that treating people better will more than likely reward with the same, but you can never expect everyone to give you everything just because you're nice, that's not realistic. instead they just kinda shoved her into a desk and didn't do much with her. she might as well have just not been in the show. I don't recall anything she did after she was demoted other than hanging out with Pam, which was wholesome, and her weird, unconprehensible romance with Toby.

I actually thought that Dwight's betrayal against Michael (with crentist the dentist) was completely in character. Dwight's respects and admires Michael for his position and achievements in the company. Their entire friendship consists of Dwight being Michael's assistant. And so if Dwight had a chance to get Michaels position, he'd take it (at least in the early part of the show) and he'd treat Michael as an equal or less.
@trollolkidАй бұрын
Yeah he just completely missed the whole joke there tbh. It's funny that Dwight does a complete 180 when he thinks hes manager just showing how much he's sucking up to michael and doesn't actually think he's that great if he wasn't the manager, that's why it's funny to me at least.

It's good to encounter another fan of "Branch Wars," which I think may be the most underrated episode ever. You didn't mention the one thing that I think is the episode's masterstroke, though: The way that the camera stays with Jim in the car while Michael and Dwight go inside the Utica branch on their harebrained mission, so that we only hear the resulting mayhem over the walkie-talkie rather than seeing it. In comedy as in horror, it's often what's NOT shown that's most effective.
