Love your videos but you didn’t explain why your switching to the larger pan. I love that it has a drain plug (which is almost reason enough) but what are the benefits? Also wont it take twice as long to get the fluid up to temperature?

SERIOUSLY....you mean to tell me that GM has cut cost to save a dime by not having a transmission dipstick tube to fill the transmission or to check the transmission fluid.....I guess not having an oil dipstick tube to check your oil is the next thing they will ax!!!...but anyway excellent video

It’s filled from the factory and doesn’t need checked. The fluid level changes depending on temperature and I just think GM doesn’t want anyone doing anything stupid. I don’t think the dipstick cost more than any of the extra moving parts and electronics involved with the 10 speed.

I’d say 75-80% of the modern vehicles have gone to these “sealed” systems. Idk If it’s better mechanically , but it discourages home mechanics from diy service. We had a 2016 explorer sport, same. Then all my Diesel Vw Touareg’s were the same.

My only beef with this pan is clearance, I once in full darkness and blinded by incoming traffic lights , drove over a full tire with rim that was in a carpool lane once in my Mercedes GL and it scraped underbody plastic covers. My GMC doesn’t have any underbody protection besides metal pan in the front, and next would be this extra deep ALUMINUM pan sticking out. that’s a huge concern, If only PPE just make the pan same size as stock would def be a go

Might be a dumb question but when running it at idle to you leave the plug off and wait for it to trickle out? Wanna make you i don’t screw that up
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Жыл бұрын
Good question 🙋‍♂️ I fill it until it comes out. Insert the plug and then run the truck up to temp. Then pull the plug with it idling. It will be hot! Once it becomes a trickle, engine still idling, install the plug and then you can shut the truck. Also want to note, clean the plug threads so you don’t get any of the crusty sealant (blue loctite) in the transmission. So, I will have the plug cleaned and a dab of fresh blue loctite on it when I know it will be the final reinstall.

That was for an allison, this does not need it. The additional fluid it holds actually site below the filter and as the fluid is returned from the lines, it''s poured into the pan mixing the fluid around.
