Hi! Tashi here, sharing my experience changing from an Entrepreneur to leading a team as an Executive at global Corporate company. There are some key skills that are transferable and some cultural and process driven differences you need to embrace. This video gives 2 good tips on what startup skills to use and 2 tough lessons to overcome when switching to a company. Corporate Careers are rewarding when you have an Entrepreneur's mindset.
Here is my video on my $10M Failed startup story
My $10M Failed Coworking Startup Story. Learnings & Advice for all Entrepreneurs and Founders.
• My $10M Failed Startup...
I myself have taken many of the learnings and growth from starting my own business into my new role as the Head of a Team at a global Fortune 500 Prop tech company.
I believe anyone can think and behave like an entrepreneur even if they are not starting their own business, you can think like one at your company job, at home, even how you approach your own lifestyle.
So who am I and why can I speak to this?
Here is a bit about my failed startup I built and ran over 6 years...
As the former CEO and Co-founder of TwoSpace (an Australian startup launched with Optus that transformed hotels and restaurants into a network of flexible co-working spaces), Tashi's team connected over 10,000 users in Australasia through on-site wifi check-in technology and an engaging online community platform. TwoSpace hit a valuation of $10M before being acquired by a prop-tech company in December 2019 and ultimately was unwound.
Enjoy.

Awesome stuff Tashi, and agree. Having run my own company for 15 years and done (many) the corporate thing, your advice rings true. Two take aways for me are leave the ego at the door and adopt the process, don't fight it, most of the time it has good reason to be there even if it's a pain. Just avoid institutions like universities if you have a entrepreneur or innovator mindset they can be a bit more of challenge and can crush your creativity

This gave me some things to think about. The difference in levels of urgency has really caught me off guard going from my own company to CTO of another. It has taken me a lot to adjust to seeing things that should take hours or days have weeks or more in turnaround time. The other part was the ability to act on incomplete information when that seems to paralyse larger teams autonomy.

That’s some great points you raise. Totally agree I think as you progress in your career you realise that some of the best directors are the ones who are capable of making a decision with only 70% of the information available, and avoid paralysis by over analysis. There is value in having the courage and clarity of making a decision and moving forward.

How would you compare the dynamics and challenges you faced as an entrepreneur versus your experiences as a corporate executive?
@thefailedfounder
@thefailedfounder 25 күн бұрын
In my experience the short answer would be as an entrepreneur you are like a dog chasing a car sometimes. Looking for the next partnership, deal, hype to piggyback off or funding for many, As a corporate exec whilst you still embrace that entrepreneural behavior to grow, you need to embrace the company process, culture and internal relationships as much as the external deals. I find it almost like having two jobs brand wise, one internally facing and one externally. Albeit it is highly rewarding. And if your goal as an entreprenuer was always to make an impact (not necessarily to just work for yourself), you might find you can do that better as part of a bigger team and co. Hope that helps!

@@thefailedfounder This is insightful! As someone in my early 20s and keen on establishing my own company, I value the wisdom and guidance of those who have walked similar paths before. Would you be open to connecting for a conversation?
