To some that may seem crazy, but to Reuben and Adam on this podcast, it’s what they’ve done all the time over their career in our dealer sales and training department and their own hunts/competitions they’ve traveled to. Question. So I do not have a pelican hard case or anything smaller than a full size suitcase with a hard plastic on all sides. I am in a different state, bought some ammo, and flying back home soon. Would I be okay to have my ammunition(less than 11 pounds) in its original cardboard boxes in my large suitcase with all my clothes? This large suitcase would get checked in

I tried it recently for my first time. I bought 3 boxes of 50 rd 22lr. Wrapped in the bag from the store, stuffed them in a shoe then stuffed a sock over the boxes in the shoe. Went thru united and when I got home, the ammo was still there.

@TOXIC please explain how am I going to catch a charge? Since then I've done a few times already, no issues with TSA or the airline. I'm following the guidelines.

Can you fly with ammo bought in a store in the same box you picked it up off the shelf with, and store it (still boxed) in the same locked hard case as your weapons are travelling in? Seems like this questions is impossible to get an answer to but likely the only way people want to travel with their ammo. As it is written it seems like it should be legal but no one covers it.

Don’t even label ammo for shipping. If anyone sees that they’ll flag it for not being shipped by a insured dealer! And prob just take it home…. The guy that shipped the ammo to your local store/ the distributor has a special license that you and I don’t have….

Flag on the play. Watch your state regs as well. Michigan for example has not historically allowed transportation of a firearm in the same case as the ammunition, read loaded mags or loose rounds in the gun case. Skimming the regs I believe this has been updated, but the wording is more of a gray area now than it used to be so one should probably err on side of caution and case the firearm and ammo separately while in state. Just another joy of travel, carriers want one thing while the states each want something different.

When the fuck did it become legal to limit the way I can travel with my firearms and ammo? The airlines are privately owned and their stupid rules are enforced by the tsa that is not a privately own company. I see a little bit of a conflict of interest there. I moved to Arizona from Hawaii and flew with two rifles and I did a lot of research before hand and basically the different airlines all have different rules and you never know if they will actually let you fly with guns or ammo so it’s always a good idea to have a friend that is willing to come get your shit when they decide they don’t want to let you fly with your guns and ammo. It’s all an money and not safety!!!!
