Proverbial S#!T hitting the fan can come in many forms and mean many things. The guys share their thoughts on kits they have put together and what they think should be in their kit. Your region, circumstances, job, and infinite variables can determine the right kit for you. This is an initial discussion likely with a follow up.
As always, we want to hear your feedback! Let us know if there are any topics you'd like covered on the Vortex Nation™ podcast by asking us on any one of our social media platforms and using #VortexNationPodcast.

@@bthemediaEither there are rudimentary BLS items in it that requires no introduction or homie has ALS equipment in it that he maybe shouldn't. In either event it's not super important to see them. Tourniquet, gauze, pressure dressings, hemostatic gauze, chest seals, (ideally aluminum rolled) splints, PAPER medical tape (not micropore), and an assortment of pills (benadryl, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, guaifenisin, etc.) nd your antiseptic of choice (isopropyl alcohol, CHG if you can get it. Hydrogen peroxide actually sucks at this) Then it's like tweezers and a booboo kit and you're done. If you don't know how to use a CDK don't get them. There's not much else a layperson would need.

A local chemical plant, over a mile away, had a big fire last year. The smoke and soot was blowing over our house and since my wife was pregnant we didn’t want to hang out at home too long. A “tactical” minded bag and living in the woods wasn’t the move. We packed some outfits and basics into a duffle and said in a local hotel until we knew more about the chemicals. Now we keep different “kits” in totes by our basement door. Throw some in the bed of the truck and we can quickly scale what’s needed for the situation. Going camping..? The main gear and often forgot small things are all in one bin. Cold weather gear all in its own bins etc. Whatever the situation is, bring organized for it is key.

I would be interested in seeing a 10 minute talk on the Hornady Superformance line. I hunt with a Rem 700 Classic from 1988 chambered in 35 Whelen. I believe it has a 22 inch barrel and I’m wondering if there is an advantage to shooting superformance ammo? Are they able to produce faster speeds by using slower burning powder that peaks longer compared to Nosler, Remington, and Barnes?

It's not something y’all think of but in the south east the weather gets pretty funky for a few months. It wasn't long ago that my town was under multiple feet of storm water and rescue services enlisted my friends with airboats to conduct rescues. Water filtration and sanitation are pretty important when wading through stormwater and “sludge”

My go bag is very simple. More of a get home bag really. 95% of my life I am less than 30 miles away from my home. instead of a big pack with all my survival gear, I just have my EDC, and I keep a 40 oz water bottle, some energy bars, jacket, and foldable adult push scooter with beefier off road like tires in the back of my car. I see it taking about 1.5 -2 hours if I need to get home under my own power on that scooter. everything else I could ever need is at home.

Jim overthrowing to use his go bag 19:15 😂😂 100% That's me right there, a situation happens and it's kinda a need but not really a need to use it, its already organized. I like the mental peace the go bag gives, it's there for a REAL situation....that has a 0.01% chance :)

It’s nice seeing just regular guys talking about this topic instead of the HSLD crowd, it’s refreshing. I agree that everyone’s situation is different and you plan accordingly, but be realistic with what likely situation you would need that bag. For me and where I live, a bag like that is used for if there is a house fire, chemical spill at the RR terminal, etc. where I would have to leave my house in a hurry. Since we have family in our area, I don’t need a lot to take with me, just clothes, meds, shoes, etc, etc. Would definitely like to see a follow up to this where you all maybe “flesh” things out in a little more detail and what realistic situation in your area’s you would need this. Thanks for a good video, I appreciate it.

I think you all look at it wrong. It's not a go bag . It's a life bag . It is to get you through anything life can throw at you. If I am hunting then I add the extra . If I'm camping the I add the extra . If I'm working then add work stuff . My life bag is in my car . Rifle, ability to clean water ,make fire shelter. Sleep system . All ready to walk away from the car . Life includes first aid and 1 week of food . I use everything as I need . And replace as I go . It also means that as you use it you learn how to use , as well as if it's suitable for your purposes you want it for . Knowing is your best way forward .

So now where he just said he put a sleeping bag in my truck, so I have a tote in the bed of my truck because I sleep in the woods quite often in the bed of my truck which sleeping bag. There's a pillow. There's a Teton outfitters extra large mattress in it that rolls up another blanket, but that's not where I'm going with this, so my dad always had a wool blanket in his Jeep wagoneer back into the '70s and I was a kid, which I always have in the front of my truck, and 2 years ago I gave one of my sisters. I don't know 10 or 15 or 20 pairs of old jeans that had holes in them or did not fit me anymore, and she just surprised me with a quilt made out of those jeans, and I told her that that will go and stay in the front of my truck with Dad's blanket! And she was very appreciative that was going to stay with Dad's blanket!

23:49 That said, I think, if you do use the kit more often, or the same supplies, Or the leftovers after you use on piece of a ten pack... Use the gear from your go bag, in your camping and hunting and training. Especially, if you order replacements every, 6 months, or 2 years, Or whatever... Then you can pull the originals, and use them for practice in your other adventures. And gain that familiar experience you mentioned.

22:25 While it's absolutely redundant... It would let you use the active bag more often, knowing you always have the emergency, reserve bag. Also, you eventually rotate out the gear. The active bag is half depleted, so it get replaced/refilled, then becomes the reserve bag... the leftovers go into your hunting and camping everyday stuff, And the reserve bag, becomes the active bag, to use up those supplies.

Does the suppressor being under his hand guard make the hand guard heat up? Or is it because it's 9mm not 233 or larger that the suppressor and barrel don't heat up enough to matter or just wear gloves on everything and it is what it is!

Okay, I'm like 18 minutes in here and he just said about worrying about taking something out of your to-go bag and now you got to go buy another pack of five to replace it. You would not believe how many people are that anal out there to consider that stuff. If you got to go buy a pack of five then give it to somebody else or give it to another member of your family. Start another go bag! Or learn how to use the stuff that you have by buying extra of it!

Jim needs a Toyota 4Runner or Taco ! You could scale back the tools a little. Jim nice to see recovery gear ! Go Bag is easy as Mark can confirm on Alaska Hunts you have a 50lb limit on a fly in hunt so in reality you should never need more in a to go bag and a lot less is easy. Only three Calibers to Consider .22LR 5.56 and 9mm as ammo in these is everywhere and cheap. To go bag use getting away from Riot’s and Hurricanes like Katrina is the most likely. Nice Show

Ok guys, I've watched a BUNCH of these episodes and gotten a lot out of them and I appreciate the work that goes into them. Had to back out of this one at about the 12 minute mark due to all the stammering around and, "like, like, like, like". Maybe you guys hit your stride a bit later in this video but I can only take so much of the upspeak and sounding like 15 year old girls. And its not just you. Seems everyone under 40 does it. Men and women, both. You can do better. You have done better. Proper preparation prevents piss poor performance. Sorry, I'll be back but I'm out on this one. Thanks for what you do...just do better next time.

They are talking about an unfamiliar situation as normal average guys. These aren't Ex-mil/LE types that live for prepping and have every scenario mapped out. I think some grace is needed for that, since they are much more organized on other topics they are familiar with. I can understand where your coming from and it did seem to find its voice as it went on. These are normal guys trying to figure prepping out for the likely first time in their life I've had and born witness to very similar conversations before and they follow a similar track to this episode.

I live in central Texas and have my go bag set up for having to abandon my truck due to a random tornado, wildfire, etc. Hurricanes we can see coming, no nation on earth has the capability to drop paratroopers on us, much less a full scale invasion. worse case would be jihadis pulling an October 7th, or maybe a dirty nuke. but when i think about what could happen, getting home during a tornado, wildfire, or antifa riot are the primary concerns I have by a long shot.

2:46 I agree with you Jim. I would only add, as a Law Student in Canada. Not a lawyer. And not a US expert by any means. Yada yada yada. Blah blah. Legal disclaimer. But. The one major benefit for Prepping for Zombie Apocalypse. When you discuss defending against, 'zombies', it's not illegal. It sounds appropriately absurd and ridiculous, but it is one important thing. It is not in any legal manner, provable as preparation or premeditation against anything 'ineligible' in your state. SoTLDR as silly as Zombie prep will sound, it is purposefully silly, and allows us to make all the necessary preparations, without admitting to anything, inadvisable. For example, in Canada, I can have a conversation with the police at a check stop road block, and answer any questions about the Xbow, Axe, and other survival equipment. Quote. "Yes Sergeant, you see we have young children, so, it behooves us to be prepared, in case Zombies. Yes. Zombies. It could happen. Remember Covid. Think about it." Is it silly? Absolutely. But it serves a purpose.
