Helpful tips indeed. Suggestion though, throwing a tactacam on a vortex scope and heading out to the range to actually demonstrate these steps would be huge. Tons of content around long range, but little actual footage through the scope. Think this would help put tie a lot of these pieces together.

Amen, that sounds like a good idea. And maybe they will have time to do it. I just finished reading a book on nothing but reading the wind. Primarily for long range target shooters. Funny thing is, one smart aleck complained that there was not enough low tech information. But the first part of the first chapter was reading wind from vegetation. And later, from mirage. Granted, at a competition, you will have flags at various parts of the range. Anyway, depends on your philosophy of use. I like to read about wind but most of my hunting, which is my primary objective, is at 50 yards-ish, on public hunting land for whitetail and feral hog. And eastern spring turkey and dove. And local lakes for fishing. Mostly, catfish, crappie, and perch. But what if I could win a draw to hunt in the western part of my state where the primary game is mule deer and the literature for those drawn hunts says to expect blizzard conditions, hard hiking, and shots averaging at least 200 yards? Better learn some wind. Find a range (which I have done, less than 100 miles away) that goes out farther than 100 yards.

Good info gentleman. Never thought of being more precise within the margin of wind hold between minimum and gust. Something to practice before hunting.

Good stuff. I would like to see a discussion on when to dial in a correction versus using hold overs. Primarily for NLR22 style matches.

It would really vary stage to stage. Sometimes you're not allowed to touch anything once the stage starts, so if there are multiple distances you would be forced to hold for one. Dialing will always be more accurate than holding over so when you can dial elevation it is very beneficial.

Really wish there was more visual representation of what was going like say using an overlay or something of the radical showing how to use it to its full capacity.
