This is my favorite cast on and often I'll use the Chinese Waitress cast off to complement it. I haven't tried the first method you demonstrated but will! Thanks for posting.

Is there a matching bind off? Your tutorial has me interested in using this cast on.

It seems that Double Chain bind off forms an identical edge, but I haven't tested this method yet. I will, and if it really does match the look of this cast on, I'll make a separate tutorial about it. Happy knitting!

This is my favorite cast on for knitting winter hats, but I can never get a perfectly smooth join in the round. I also use this cast on for Tunisian crochet projects 😉

Thanks for the information. I haven't anticipated that there could be issues with joining it in the round. I'll test a few approaches to see which one works best. If I find a neat solution, I'll make a separate tutorial about it.

It's much easier to make a chain of stitches and then go back and put your yarn thru the loops in the back bar and place on Knitting needle. Been doing this for a long time.

That's an interesting approach. Thank you for sharing!

Can this be used to add underarm stitches in raglan sweaters? Would you need to reverse the work to add this cast on?
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday 4 ай бұрын
The edge formed by this cast on is thicker than the edge formed by the backwards loop cast on method or other methods commonly used to cast on stitches at the underarms of a raglan sweater. In most cases, we want to keep the underarm area flexible, so it is better to stay away from thicker cast on edges. Happy knitting!

Thank you for this tutorial. I wonder if you use this cast on for knitting in the round, how do you conect to work in the round so the conection to be invisible.
@10rowsaday

A few overhand stitches will work fine., but I plan to find a way to make an invisible join. Once I do find that method, I'll make a tutorial about it. Stay tuned :-)

How much stretch would you have if you were knitting a hat? I love your tutorials because they are easy to understand and your format is predictable, yellow yarn and big needles keep the mind focused on the technique rather than the distraction of fancy colors and textures, by far one of the best KZbin creators for this subject. I have several approaches to cast-on depending on the fabric, but this method just seems so very cumbersome and not worth the while to learn. IMHO. Thanks

Thank you for the kind words, Johnnie. I am really glad you find my tutorials helpful. As for the stretch of an edge formed by this method, I show it at the end of the video when I stretch my swatch. The edge is stretchy enough for a hat but if you want to make it even more elastic, use a hook in a bigger size. Happy knitting!

I'd much rather someone frog my work and reuse the yarn for their own creation than it end up in a landfill. Cut it up, take it apart, whatever, UNLESS I have made it clear that the piece, if they just know they won't be able to appreciate it fully, should be returned to me WITH NO JUDGMENT OR HARD FEELINGS AT ALL.

Michele, I can't agree more. It is always painful to see an item that we spent hours to make just sitting in someone's closet. Such a waste. And if this item is not loved, it is better to unravel it and reuse the yarn.
