How often are the milkers cleaned and how is it done? I certainly appreciate the hard work farmers do to feed America!!
@caninedrill_instructor58615 жыл бұрын
Eric said they changed out the inflations every five months. Milkers are cleaned at least twice a day. More if the farm milks on a 3X rather than a 2X schedule. I'm not certain how the milker and pipeline cleaning is done on Eric's family's farm, but there's two approaches that I'm aware of. Having done both growing up. 1. The milkers are cleaned in situ. 2. The milkers are taken into the milkhouse and cleaned there. Hooking them up so they, and the pipeline get cleaned. On our farm, we ran a sanitizing rinse through the milkers and pipeline before every milking, before we set up the pipeline to empty into the bulk tank. Then after each milking we'd remove the pipeline from the bulk tank and run a series of cycles using soap, a rinse, then an acid, another rinse, a sanitizer and then a final rinse. Our family ran a Grade A dairy operation from 1978 to 2012. As I said, I don't know the "nuts and bolts" of Eric's operation.

I love the channel. My dad is a professional fabricator, I am pretty good. Your welding isn't bad, but I would try to clean up the surrounding area with a grinder and wire brush attachment prior to welding. I would say that your welding voltage may be a bit low and you are maybe moving a bit too fast. I grew up on a farm that we still use for cash cropping. I enjoy your interaction with your dad. He is an old school, hard nosed guy like my dad. Your conversations with him are interesting and remind me of my talks with my father. Great job, and take care

If the welds are breaking like that its usually because the welder wasn't set hot enough. Could also be stress since there is very little material welded there. If it keeps happening consider using a piece of angle iron upside down to reinforce the weld. Just weld one edge on either side after doing the initial weld. That should fix the problem permanently.

When you're getting blood samples and injecting the vaccines why do you not wash the site first with iodine/why dont you have to? Seems like a good way for the cow to get sepsis from all the manure on the hair and especially the tail. Just curious
@michaelvallin555 жыл бұрын
Everything they do is through the lens of a cost vs benefit analysis. If it makes sense economically they'll do it, if not why bother
@Gatorsrok5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelvallin55 Doesn't really answer the question but ok. Speaking more clinically about why they wouldnt spend the extra .02 cents per cow or whatever it is to clean the site when injecting vaccines or drawing blood samples. Guarantee your cost/benefit analysis wouldn't hold strong when a cow dies from sepsis or blood bacterial infection vs them spending PENNIES to do the proper thing. You yourself will never walk into a hospital or clinic and have them just straight up stick you, they clean the site for a minimum 30 seconds before ever breaking the skin.
