When I was a kid farmers paid me 5 cents for a ground squirrel tail. A box of .22 LR was 50 cents. If I placed my shots well, I could buy a year's supply of ammo in a couple months.

That's cool. That must mean you had permission to be on their land, which is another good benefit.

@@uncle_milk01 I lived on a farm. They were my neighbors. Granddad paid me a dime a tail so I'd get them all. Amazing how fast a kid with a .22 can wipe out a colony of ground squirrels.

When I was a little kid in Pennsylvania we had pastures surrounding our house and Dad taught me to shoot using a .22 rifle by taking me out to the fields to clear out the pests. The neighbors appreciated it, they didn't want their animals getting hurt stepping in a hole.

Yepp. 😂 10 - 12 yrs old and I'd spend the day and the local farms shooting ground hogs and squirrels. A few pesky pigeons now and then as well. Best way to grow up!!

I’m an electrical engineer and attended Colorado State, and there were quite a few engineering students who focused on agricultural issues. After watching you for several years I can honestly say that their work is extremely important! Many of the farm implements and tech like the Ag Bag we’re improved by engineers, and they make your life better (thus better for all of us). I’m in my 60s, and a bit older than your pop, yet you have taught me so much having grown up as a “city kid”. Your hard work and tenacity deserve great praise. Thank you Eric.

Yer right. Some folks need to get out of the way and into the city. Can you spearhead a pkan to help make that happen? These folks up hill have no trading places plans to get you into more fertile grounds out here.

This was a fantastic vid! Love the drone shots. So happy for you and your family getting moved into your new home! I also love all the great educational information. Every city dweller should watch farming/ranching channels so they understand, appreciate, and realize where their food’s coming from, the incredible amount of work and knowledge that’s required to feed their liberal stomachs!! Maybe they’d take a different view of you guys…

I agree! I also think it would be a great idea to have week long field trips for city kids to go live in/work at a farm and see what really goes on! Might just help! ❤🙏🏻🇺🇸

What makes you think liberals / "city dwellers" don't appreciate farmers? Maybe you country folk should appreciate liberals and their "book learnin'" more. If it wasn't for them, things like triticale and modern herd management, fertilizers, and the tiny, cheap cameras used to film it all wouldn't exist.
@barbarastedillie1336
@barbarastedillie1336 Жыл бұрын
@@belphag0r, I’m sorry if I gave the impression that ALL city dwellers believe identically. I made a blanket statement and I shouldn’t have.
@barbarastedillie1336
@barbarastedillie1336 Жыл бұрын
@@belphag0r, To continue however, it was folks in the agricultural business that developed all of your mentioned developments, with the exception, I believe, of the tiny cheap cameras (made in China’s socialist state, who are also our enemies). Cameras I don’t really care about and doesn’t apply to this situation anyway. Everything that has been developed for the farming/ranching industry had its birth in the need to develop or improve an existing system that these folks were working/ familiar with. Most city dwellers don’t have a clue about the details of modern farming/ranching.

So much to love about this video! I really enjoy watching your silage guy and his crew, such a smooth operators. Groundhogs! It always seemed where ever we planted soybeans, it was like a big sign sent up with an arrow pointing to the all you can eat soybean buffet. It was always fascinating how they would eat in a big circle with the hole at the center and then how the beans would be taller the further out from the center you went as thy had to range farther for the good food. WE rented a farm down the road that was laid out in strips. The owners son worked for the soil conservation Service in our county. their farm had a good deal more slope to ie and the strips were long! We usually had alfalfa there. If the cutting was good, one round would fill the wagon with small square bales. While we did have a baler with a bale ejector, we never just kicked them into the wagon. We would let the baler toss them into the wagon and then "place them", less trips on the road back home. Best wishes and many blessings in your new home!

We had that issue with our New Holland center pivot you talked about when cutting the last row and bunching up on the ends. It’s a New Holland thing, once they upgraded to pottinger mowers they don’t bunch anymore. We also demoed a John Deere pull type disc bine and it also didn’t catch and bunch up. Like you said it’s the thick crops that can do it, cutting rye would always do it.

Way back in the early sixties we had a problem with a groundhog in our alfalfa so some of the older boys took a five gallon can of gas and poured some in each hole and then we stood back and watched while one of the guys lit it. Now I don't remember seeing any groundhog, but it was an amazing display that I will never forget.😁😆🤣🤣

If you are doing any changes to your silo's i would recommend an extra one instead of higher walls, because corn can spoil fast and if your feeding speed isn't high enough, it will happen, so i would recommend just an extra silo, or make one longer
