👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I'm Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is deeply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label (dropped 6 months later) and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I'm also a bass player, I've played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you're not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my KZbin channel - I've been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a 'niche'! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, KZbin channel and I work directly with labels internationally alongside owning a live agency and management company.
It's great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!

Superb advice. I'm releasing three original songs this year. The songs are solid, well produced (used brick-and-mortar studio and top session musicians), and definitely different from anything else out there. The music videos will be strong and pro (and quirky), too. I'll follow your advice when creating TikToks to promo the song. When I get thousands (or even 1 million) views, I'll message ya! (One question: Best video editing software to use for the TikToks and IG reels?)

I would add that it's about the % of completion of the video, more than the number of seconds watched. This would mean longer videos dont need full completion always, to grow, though shorter videos don't need much time to reach completion. I think it's about getting a high % of average video seen. Therefore if two people watch full and two people zero, you get 50% completion rate. And TikTok will detrermine if it should show you more or less based on that percentage, that will constantly get updated with the next views. This helped me a lot.

Hey Damian, great video again. The value you provide is outstanding. I have a question and yes - it is a bit off topic. But honestly I see nobody talking about this, even though it is a big issue that happens RIGHT NOW in the music industry: So many shows have to be cancelled because of bad ticket sales - especially in Europe. Do you have any idea how to tackle this problem and can you make a video around that topic?

I’m not sure. It’s going to also be different around the world but I’ll name them ideas that I can think of which hopefully can help. Maybe give some of the proceeds to charity which is close to many peoples hearts. Making a big deal and so post flyers in the area and post it on social media. Create a meet and greet time. Part of that meeting greet could be signing autographs and you could mention it. Basically what I’m trying to get it through all these ideas is make it so people want to come. So they actually are excited and ready to come. Oh well you could do this is to talk to some random people even friends and ask them what would make it engaging for them. Use the data you just collected and try to apply the best that you can. I wish you all the best of luck and if you have any questions let me know

That is so interesting. This means finding a way to captivate peoples attention right in the beginning. You can’t start off for example by introducing yourself for 20 seconds. This is because people are going to scroll. This means start off with something captivating and then if you want to introduce yourself working in later in the video. After the initial attention has been grabbed. Hope this can help and let me know if you have any questions

Damian, I think I saw a video in the past that was sort of geared towards asking for collabs with other musicians... I STRONGLY remember YOU saying that it was a good trick of Ed Sheeran's. I was wondering if you might consider doing a video about best practices for asking other musicians for collaborations/duets? It doesn't have to be KZbin/TikTok specific, or anything. Just any ideas, specifically things like presenting the benefit for the other musician, would be amazing I feel. Thank you for everything you post! Been following you for like over a year, and have learned so much not just for music, but marketing in general. Thank you, sir!

I have never done this before but I have a couple suggestions. First find someone similar to you. What I mean by that is don’t go to someone who has double or triple or even quadruple the amount of followers it’s you. You could always try to go to someone with more followers than you so you get a larger benefit but just keep that in mind. This one is more important though number two. Thoughtfully think about what you write. When you arrange them for the first time make sure it’s very soulful and it sounds presentable. Also be sure you very clearly layout the benefits of doing this collaboration or duet. That way the other musician easily knows what they are getting out of it without having to ask. Bonus tip. Be open. At the end of the message ask if they have any questions for example. That way they know that you were willing to talk about it and discuss and figure out something that works the best for both of you. If you have any questions let me know
