I was in the main stand that night. The free kick was perfect, Sammy Lee couldn't miss. It's also the only time i ever saw Mark Lawrenson beaten in a one on one challenge.

Im from Romania.I believe that the empty seats were because of economic recession in western europe and also the fact that Romania was communist back then and romanians were forbiden to leave the country. In the 1970s and 1980s many romanian teams played in UEFA cup or UEFA champions league but all the matches played in the western countries were played without romanian supporters. Even when Steaua Bucharest won Champions League in 1986 there were no romanian supporters alowed to come to Spain. Only the embassy personel and some of the families of romanian football players were there.

La Liverpool a fost Sammy Lee si la Bucuresti a fost Nicolae care ne-au scos din finala pe care am avut-o in mana. Pacat. M-am nascut dinamovist si asa o sa mor

It’s amazing how low our crowds were back then. You can’t get a ticket for love nor money now. Obviously pre pandemic

It was the eighties, thatcher was literally trying to kill Liverpool as a city unemployment was rife so a game like this suffered attendance wise.
