A massive lake effect system dumped feet of snow across portions of Erie County, NY including over the city of Buffalo, as well as multiple communities to the South including Orchard Park.
Countless vehicles were still stranded and many more completely buried under feet of heavy snow. Semi trucks were stopped and stuck on small roads after they were forced off of I-90 when commercial vehicles were banned on highways. Trucks are still stuck today and in the middle of roads. Cleanup will take days and even weeks as homeowners now struggle to clear the front of their driveways of nearly 5 or 6 feet of wet, compacted snow.

It’s not that much of a mystery… where the hell are you going to store them? How often do you get this much snow? I was considering getting them because my car has 0 traction in the snow and that’s the questions my wife asked me? All weather tires normally get the job done and this isn’t exactly a mountainous area.

Not really needed. A decent set of year around all weather tires usually do the trick. Plus, road crews do a good job overall in these northern climates to fairly quickly clear roads. They have the expertise & equipment to be accomplish this in short order. Growing up in the climate & snow, a driver usually learns how to drive & operate a car in lots of snow. This event was unusual for the time span & amount accumulated. I grew up in the an area of upper Michigan where daily totals of 12" was not unusual. You just learn.

A lot of snow weight on those house roofs. Some years ago, we had several severe storms that left a lot snow on our roofs. I shoveled my roof a few times that winter, but my neighbor didn't. His detached garage collapsed under the weight. It can happen.

I would never imagine snow to be that heavy 😮
@garyr4211
@garyr4211 Жыл бұрын
@@mangomonet2464 - In general, snow usually weighs about 20 pounds per cubic foot. You can also look at this in another way, which can sometimes be more useful for calculating snow’s weight compared to how much a structure can hold. Snow usually weighs about 1.25 pounds per 1 inch of depth, per square foot. This means that, if the snow is 10 inches deep, for example, a square foot area will have a weight of about 12.5 pounds. On average, most roofs are equipped to hold about 20 pounds of weight, such as snow, per square foot. This means that most roofs can hold about 16 inches of average-weight snow before the snow must be cleared away. However, it’s a good idea to remove the snow before that, as the snow mixture might be heavier than you think. Some roofs are designed to hold much more weight, and they might be able to hold up to 120 pounds per square foot.

I got lucky, I was in Buffalo during the start of all this driving semi. I had been checking the weather and heeded the warnings, still narrowly escaped though.. The receiver I went to in Fairport took their sweet @ss time unloading, then the shipper I met in Buffalo killed some of my drive hours in similar fashion.. I managed to get to a TA an hour east of Buffalo as the snow began falling heavy, had to drive through whiteout. As soon as I got any hours back on my clock I sure didn't waste it and I took the hell off!

Grocery stores most likely won't be open, the storms were predicted allowing for people to buy what they would need ahead of time. All those semis should have delayed travel. Now they are making it difficult for plows to clean the roads, which is making it difficult for 1st responders to help people. I would rather have their deliveries delayed 1-2 days than have people die cause of a medical emergency.

What I find so bewildering is why so many people park their cars on the street when they know an event of this type is coming. Not only do they have to get the accumulated snow off their cars but they have to dig out the ice and snow around their vehicles that was pushed up against the car by the snow removal equipment. More of the road can be cleared without these impediments and reduces the chance your vehicle will be damaged by the snow removal equipment. Why should poor planning on one person's part create an emergency, or distress, on another person's part?

Maybe trailer parks should have communal tornado shelters, and northern cities should have designated parking lots (churches, strip malls, etc) for off street parking during snow emergencies? I can see 2 or 3 car families not having more than a 1 car garage (in older neighborhoods), and not a long driveway. A lot of older neighborhoods don't even have garages, and thus no driveways.

@user-rf1mv4ny8t ....You have no clue.....the snow hit the city of Buffalo, where there are precious few driveways and garages in personal homes, and there is only street parking allowed ( often allowing only alternate sides of the street for just such an occasion)....and then there are the suburbs that do have garages. Cars on the street can simply be there parked like any other place in the county where you cars are parked on the street....near shopping...near barbers....near anything. You have no idea how FAST such snow accumulation is !!......I used to say the same when I saw cars with water up to the roof, with people stranded under a bridge in Houston during an incoming rain storm......until I witnessed it myself seeing haw fast situations change.

" I have no idea how FAST such accumulation is?". Really? I lived where once the first snow fell you didn't see green grass for 6-8 months. I KNOW what cabin fever is. There was no advanced warning of that rain storm in Houston? Is it the States responsibility to save your ass because you ignore a hurricane evacuation warning? The fake news stopped using Global Warming as a "Term" long ago.....for looking ridiculous as they would now seeing this storm. So to cover all the bases for the lies they perpetuate...the new term is "Climate Change". Didn't you notice?....Global warming is "out".....Climate change allows all lies to go further without question.

OK. It looks bad. In Colorado you , by law ,have to have chains on your commercial vehicle. I saw no chains. In Colorado we call this a snow storm. Think about California where they get ten feet over night.

Fuck that shit! I’m glad I’m in Florida. I’m from St. Louis, Missouri I moved to Florida Halloween weekend 2021 last year. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with snow. We have chilly weather it feels like I’m in Missouri. Only part I like about snow is seeing the snow on the trees and grass. When snow is on sidewalk, street, road, driveway, parking lot and highway it’s not cool to see. It’s more cool to see snow on grass and trees.

Nice shot at 1:44, using those piles of snow to make it look deeper. Our "media" is so fake no wonder no one really believes them. Yeah, you got a lot of snow but every shot I see is set up to intentionally make it look like you got more than you really did. 0:05 is NOT 6' of snow 😆😅😂🤣. I have seen worse snowfalls in the Midwest many times.

Lake effect snow condenses down because of its weight at a certain point. At 1.44 he pointed the camera at trucks that was obviously on the other side of a pile that was plowed. The average yearly snowfall in Michigan is about 60 inches. Most weather stations use similar if not the same equipment. 0.05 he is standing on snow. honestly why do you people feel the need to spit this ignorant crap? Its not about the snow so take it somewhere else.
