Wow. Thank you for sharing this important chapter of your story. There was no way you could have know, in 1982, that your life's journey was going to land you in an idyllic tropical life some 40 years later. But that said, you certainly "paid your dues" to get there. So now that you're there, I hope the beauty of the island and your family help to heal up those old wounds and restore some of what you so selflessly gave up - and I hope you enjoy every minute of it. Just FYI, I grew up in the Old South (Georgia, Tennessee, etc.), so can understand, appreciate, and respect your perspective on things. It seems to me that such an upbringing is a large part of what makes modern day Philippines so appealing to many of us.

I'm sure I told you that our stories are very similar. I'm originally from Natchez, MS, but moved to the Phillipines from Arkansas. I was also the caregiver for my wife of 38 years who got Multiple Myeloma and it finally went to her brain. She died after 3 years of fighting the cancer. I was 69 and single with a very boring life until I met my 45 year old, never married, no kids Filipino online through Facebook. She was working in Hong Kong at the time, but we got married after about a year and now live in Davao City, Philippines. I sold everything and moved to the Philippines, I've been here over a year and love it. Sure it has some drawbacks, but better than the US.

Thanks for sharing that part of your life.. All very personal but you choose to do it.. Good on you for doing it.. Seeing those trikes jogged my memory that we are looking to buy one.. The ones I have seen on internet all have lead acid batteries. Not the instant BBQ models.. Enjoy the week ahead mate..

It's still a part of my life that's always there, I still frequently dream about it, kind of hard now to believe we went through so much for so long.

Sorry for your loss. The only Ships I have been on was when I was in the Navy. Since I was in Naval Air, I was only on big Aircraft Carriers. When I was younger, I though about building my own 50ft Sailboat and sail it around the world. Since I didn't have any money or idea of how to build it. So I turned my attention to dating some Co-eds at the University. That is how I met my first wife, who is still alive. But I still wish I could have built that Sailboat.
