Misleading information provided for the Tessan 65w travel adapter. It does not convert or adjust voltage for things like shavers, curling irons, clothes irons, etc that will work on either 100/100v OR 220/230 volts. It will fry the 100/110 volt appliances if plugged into sockets that deliver the higher voltage. Chargers for cell phones, laptops, cameras, etc anyways work from 100-240 volts, so you don't need voltage converters for those, just the right plug or adapter.

I have found that the airline apps sometimes give incorrect gate information. I use the departures boards in the airport.

i bought the Tessan when you recommended it a few months ago. It comes in a nice little bag for travel - and worked great for my trip last week. As many of my travel accessories do, it lives in my carry on bag when not in use.

Way back in 1993 I had a five hour layover at Keflavik in Iceland. I was the only human being in the terminal, no services operating, no security, quiet as a cemetery. And yet, I enjoyed listening to U.S. Armed Forces music on my portable radio and looking at the snow-capped mountains in the distance through the terminal windows.

Singapore airport is one of my favourite layovers between Perth and/ Australia and Bangkok. Layovers can vary anywhere between 1.5 hrs - 16 hrs. Don’t worry as there are so many relaxing areas including a cinema, food court and rest area featuring reclining chairs and tv. I would rate Singapore airport 10/10 thank you

There are little trains within Singapore airport so that you don’t have walk. There’s also a swimming pool if you have time. I love Singapore, even though I sometimes have an 8 hour layover between Adelaide and London. Plenty to do, and great lounges.

Paris Charles DE Gaulle is the worst! I have a bad hip and terrible knees. Their service was terrible. I could have walked to my connecting gate, but I requested a wheelchair assistance, not knowing how far I would have to go. First, there was no jetway - only stairs out of the aircraft. Then I, and 6 other passengers, had to climb stairs to a holding area, then down the same stairs, and up them again to get a transport to the next gate. A gentleman (3 days out of back surgery) was in excruciating pain at the end of it all. I will try to avoid CDG at all cost in the future!

My charging suggestion is to carry a short extension cord with at least 3 outlets on it. That way when you come upon someone using the only outlet within a 30 minute walk, you can generally convince them to let you unplug their charger momentarily while you put your cord into the wall and then plug both yours and theirs in (with a bonus of one extra outlet for someone else!).

O'Hare is a good airport. Easy to get through, transfers behind security, plenty of seating, plenty of stores, good lounges, quick through tsa, tram to rental cars..... The worst airport is salt Lake city, you walk farther than any other airport. Atlanta is a mess with mini gates way far out of the way. Laguardia is always falling apart and requires leaving security to transfer gates.

A couple of years ago my wife and I had a layover in ATL. We scheduled 2 hours for it as we wanted a good amount of time for a cushion before our next flight. The airline rescheduled us on that day on a connecting flight with only 45 minutes between our flights. ATL, as most of you know, is huge and busy, and the gates can be a long way apart. We just made our connection as attendants were just about ready to close the door. We were also glad that they didn't give our seats away.

One thing I learned the hard way is to pay attention to what time zone the airports are in. My flight was England to Barcelona had a layover in Amsterdam. I went to my gate and settled in to read. When it was 45 minutes before my flight I was concerned that nothing had been announced. It turns out the waiting area for the gate was on one level, and you had to go down 1 level when it was time to board. I missed all of that and the fact that it was an hour ahead of England was the icing on the cake. I definitely learned my lesson!

CDG was the worst also. Or a layover flying from Finland to Munich and having to be in a small layover area with armed guards in a walkway above the waiting area. Amenities was a couple of vending machines. Favorite layover is Iceland. Definitely do not wait to go to your gate, because, you never know there will be additional security. Which could have very long line.

I was recently starting my travel day from CDG to PRG. When arriving at airports I'm unfamiliar with, I like to scope the gate area out prior to settling into a lounge. Even though I arrived 3 hours before my flight, once I found my gate area, I realized I wouldn't have a reasonable amount of time in the Priority Pass lounge to make it back to their gate area comfortably. After hearing your experience, it seems like I didn't miss a thing. Thanks for your vids.

@PortableProfessional I have read that in Colombia, it is not uncommon for flights to leave before scheduled departure time. My friend arrived 45 minutes before takeoff and was denied boarding. The plane was still at the gate, but she was told passengers need to be at the gate 1 hour before. departure. I never considered promptness as a particularly Colombian virtue 🤔

I'm 73 yr old, no cellphone. and rarely travel. Plus I use a walker. I am scared to either get lost at one of the airports or go to the wrong terminal/ gate on my long journey. (over 18.30 hrs travel incl stopovers between 4 flights, and then trains, 2 platforms /changeover) I hate that I could not get a no stop flight and pray that I manage to get support from each flight /change/ airport with a good Bus Class seat and not economy. I'm finally getting to see my family and friends after so many years is exciting BUT frightening! Fingers crossed and praying it all goes well. On the return trip I should maybe try to get a non stop flight, for at least part the way.

You need to notify your airline and train companies as soon as possible that you are a disabled senior and require assistance; they will provide transport for you from curbside drop off at airport, luggage check in, assistance through the TSA process and to the gates and early pre-boarding onto the plane/trains. Once your plane/train arrives , an attendant will help you off the flight and with transport/assistance through the exit and to your ground transport. This is their job to help elderly/disabled passengers to comply with Federal laws, you do not need to be worried about getting lost. If you are flying business class they should be able to take you to the various lounges to wait for ongoing flights.

Congratulations Jessie! I hope you have a wonderful, stress.free.trip, and a wonderful reunion with your family. In my 50s I have had to learn to travel by myself internally for work. It was scary at first, as I felt very small and all alone, a bit disoriented and lost. I made the wise choice not to scramble around to get to my hotel asap. Instead I stopped at a little place that offered an inexpensive massage, I got to catch my breath, as well as have a chat with the local woman who was giving me my massage. She gave me such excellence information, she put notes down for me, told me how to use the tube and the train, and where to go if I got confused or had questions. I have now travelled to multiple international countries, I have learned to keep a small notebook where I make my lists of questions I need answers to, A list of my flights, times, airports, hotels, dates, and all phone numbers and emails. I always check my gates and flight times, and I've learned the very hard way to find out the smallest bag of liquids permitted as I pass through airport customs for different countries. If you mind the smallest bag, you'll never be stuck in line throwing out things you brought with you through 2 other countries. If you CAN, I would suggest a very basic cell phone with an international data plan for the duration of your trip. Google maps, a free translation application, and a transportation application like Rome2Rio can make a huge difference in getting around and not getting stuck or lost. They may seem intimidating at first but once you have been shown how to use them they can improve your experience exponentially.

I check the on-time performance of the flights (especially the 1st flight), along with the weather conditions of: the city that your plane is coming from before reaching your flight city, your city, and the layover city. Flightstats shows a worse on-time performance than the airline's website, in my experience. Also monitor the on-time performance of your 1st flight in the week (or 2) before your flight, including the same day of the week. Check the airport conditions, eg, renovations, and the estimated time to get to the airport at the time you want to arrive at the airport. If you can, select an aisle seat as close to the front on your 1st flight. Monitor the seat reservations to see how full your flight will be.

Doha! NEVER get stranded there! It's a modern airport, with a not so modern service. When your plane lands, they'll offload you at the tarmac and not on a gate, then when you miss your flight, you'll know what I'm talking about. There will definitely be a lot of BLEEP! BLEEP! that would come out of your mouth. My Favorite so far is Tokyo Haneda or Narita, they're both awesome! Once you use their bathroom, you'll know what I mean. Plus, authentic Japanese Food almost 24 Hours. Good luck!

The military lounge for military members and veterans at Miami International Airport is a very comfy place to spend your layover hours. Though not fancy, it has everything you would need: plenty of very comfortable recliner chairs, snacks and coffee, tables where some were playing games, a TV and etc. etc. and had a person on staff to help or answer questions. It is a little hard to find yet centrally located. I highly recommend it for those eligible to use it.

Old Abu Dhabi airport (now closed at last as they opened terminal A) is the worst! Crammed with HERDS of transit passengers, chaotically build with consequent add-ons for 10s years, single narrow link between terminals (and, of course, they placed dutyfree shop there!), not enough space for layovers (and this is a hub airport! most of paxes there are transits, waiting for hours for the next Etihad flight)... nightmare. Worst strategic error - checked baggage on international flights with separate tickets, so it checks to transfer only, you have to pick it up and check again... and claim is AFTER passport control. Lucky if you can do this passport control easy, with good pasport, but even in this case it takes lot of time.

I absolutely hate Paris CDG. Dirty, people aren’t helpful and transferring from one international flight to another was a nightmare. JAX is a hidden gem for a medium sized airport with a clean terminal that’s easy to navigate and helpful staff. I like Charlotte (the terminal itself is nice and it’s easy to navigate which is good because chances are you will have a gate change (three times my last trip through there) and it takes forever for your flight to get to the gate after landing. I wholeheartedly agree about doing your homework and knowing where your next gate is and being alert for changes.

Both have excellent food options. A close third is Minneapolis St. Paul...not the best layout, but the atmosphere is cozy.

I would love to see some consolidated tips for strictly business travelers. My latest career as a corporate VP is taking me on sometimes sporadic and sometimes numerous flights in the US. The schedules are tight and the meetings are tense. Because of the timelines I have to usually fly in a suit and bring another with me. I usually arrive disheveled and in a huge rush to get “there”. Many of my fellow VPs show up fresh, relaxed and ready to go. I talk to them and they tell me about certain luggage to use or a particular walking route they take or car service or food choice but I just don’t have time to pull it all together. So I end up in Atlanta or Cleveland or Chicago a real anxious mess.

Travel in casual clothing with your business clothing in a hanging bag which you carry aboard the flight. Change into the business clothing after arrival, even if it's in an airport restroom (NOT an aircraft restroom). I strongly recommend you get an airport lounge membership, and use Priority Pass if your preferred airline doesn't offer lounges. The restrooms in the lounges are MUCH better places to change clothes than in a public restroom. Also reconsider your apparent decision to travel to & from a meeting the same day. You can leave home in the evening, get some sleep before the meeting(s) the next day, and then fly home after the meetings. Doing that does not negatively impact your ability to get things done during the day you leave, and you get home at the same time. The people you talked to are probably doing that. Also consider taking your spouse/significant other with you. A trip using airport lounges and an overnight in a hotel will be like a short + miniature vacation with your spouse/significant other.

CDG by a long shot was the worst. Connecting through the terminal means you have to go across via a basement walkway the traveller gets to by 1 small elevator. That’s it. For the thousands who go through every day. I swear the 0lace was designed for the architect, not the traveller. Then, it has no gate signage, which means that people try to get the info from kiosk desks where the lines don’t move because they are understaffed. Never going through there again. I used to avoid Heathrow because it’s a rabbit Warren, but it’s a breeze compared to CGD.

Just keep a power-only charging cable in your bag or pocket to prevent "juice jacking". I prefer one that has a magnetic connection, so I can charge all my devices with one cable. Yes I had a tight layover on my first overseas holiday. The first leg was a little late and I had to use the airport train loop to get to my departure terminal. Being my first overseas trip I went to the information kiosk for help in changing terminals, and while she was helpful in the basic information she neglected to tell me that I had to get off the train at the second stop for that terminal as I did let the woman know which gate I needed to get too. I got off the train and soon realized that I really needed to book it to the other end of the terminal to catch my flight as there was only an hour between the scheduled landing of the first leg and departure time for the connecting flight. Only saving grace would have been in being the same airline for both flights. Only just made it by about 5 minutes.

One info I thought is worth sharing: Emirates airlines has a facility called Dubai Connect, under which they require eligible psssengers to submit certain documents and details and the airlines applies for transit visa on passengers' behalf. I have availed this during my layover in Dubai earlier this year. Passengers who are eligible will see Manage Dubai Connect option when they Manage their itinerary. Accommodation and airport transfer are covered under Dubai Connect.

Then we looked for our the gate, which we located on the first floor and to our worry because of time left, we need to take a shuttle bus that will take us on to tarmac. We barely made it. Lesson is here is don't assume because the gate number is visible in the building, the plane is right at the gate...

San Diego, California's concourses require you to exit the secure area, so you need to go through TSA screening if your connecting flight is on another concourse. While not the busiest airport, it can make the difference on tight connections, not to mention the hassle of resetting carry-on items for safe, efficient screening if anything was moved after the last screening.

Hello Megan. I've never been to Dubai, but that BAGGAGE RESTRICTIONS sign around 10:20 is a puzzle. Reading by column, top-down, left->right, we have: K-bar knife, automatic handgun (Sorry, Mr Bond), throat spray or sunblock spray(?), whiskey fifth or poison (?), red wine bottle and glass, a lit safety match or witch doctor regailia(?), whole blood and test pack or a crack/hash pipe(?), fuel can or economy size laundry detergent(?), ok -- that's not a maple leaf, Roman candle or other rocket incendiary(?), radioactive material, magnet. That's a strange list. I've never seen restrictions about what looks like a child's magnet before. Well, to each their own. I was delayed in Frankfurt once during the Cold War for I don't remember what. Once I was relieved of and questioned about a fingernail clipper in a guitar case -- that was in 2001 after the 9/11 tragedy, and lost the Swiss Army Knife I traveled with for 30 years. Now I carry nothing but a wallet, chapstick, and a backpack in a security line. I use a collapsible cane, and at 74, I no longer need to remove my shoes and belt, but I was wearing a sweater, and in PHX that's suspicious behavior. I was CScanned, wanded, and patted down. They never did find my ever-present Walther PPK. When you have a licence to kill, it's mandatory. 🧙🏽‍♂️ A couple of weeks ago returning from Puerto Vallarta, we had to layover in Phoenix. This meant we had to personally transfer our checked bags on arrival to another rolling belt without US Customs collecting a for, or speaking a word.

My God, I read that traditional English Pubs are closing all over the UK -- stop the world, I want to get off! Well, not completely. Not yet. In all honesty, Dubai was never on the bucket list, unless they might have an Original Joes. I haven't enjoyed a really great Veal Parmesan dinner in years.

CDG without a doubt is the worst , flying from Toronto to Amsterdam via CDG , 2 hours to transfer . Plane waited 40 min sitting on the other side of the runway waiting for a gate to become free , then 15 min rolling to the gate to disembark , 15 min wait before the door was opened . 10 min to get off the plane and then the search for my next flight . 10 min walk to the nearest set of info boards . Do I need to pick up my luggage and manually transfer it for next flight ? No help from the staff . Transfer shuttle , again 10 min wait and 10 min travel which seemed to drive the touristic route to the other side of the airport and then the plane was boarding at the last gate at the end of a long corridor . got there just in time and told the gate staff what the hold up was and that about 50 others were behind me , no sympathy , I was one of the last to get on the still half empty plane before the gate was closed and push back . No idea what happened to the rest . I jogged the whole way not even stopping for a bathroom break and barely made it , Others stopped for coffee so didn't . I have chosen to fly on Lufthansa through Germany or Air Canada over Iceland but will never go over France again . Would the others get compensation for the missed flight ? The plane landed on time but it was more than an hour before we could get off . Flying into Halifax Nova Scotia , from Amsterdam via Toronto they lost my big case , went to the lost luggage help desk in Halifax and put in a claim . 6 hours later , about midnight , got a mail that the case had been found in Toronto and would be put on a courier flight to Halifax , I was staying 2 hours north of Halifax . 6am there was a knock at the door and a charming gentleman was there with my bag apologising for any inconvenience . Thank you Air Canada .

I haven't been to much layover airports, so I do not really have a favorite or ones that I hate so far. As I am mostly flying with Emirates for intercontinental trips (due to price and existing miles with them), I would obviously transit at DXB. My only complaint is that it's too big and if my connecting gates happen to be on the opposite sides of the terminal, I would need to walk more than half an hour to get to my boarding gate. That's why 3 hours would be the minimum layover time to allow for delays and some intangibles

Have not sampled many international layovers, but concur about CDG being a truly miserable experience. Badly laid-out, and poor signage. I remember it as dirty and dismal, as well as difficult to navigate. I also won't do a layover on mainland China again, if at-all possible. Had to claim checked luggage and take it through Chinese security - which is more difficult than the equivalent in other countries. Nothing confiscated, but one of my companions nearly had something - a religious object - arbitrarily confiscated. My favorite was Frankfurt. Clean, airy architecture, excellent signage, and for a few bucks rented a mini-hotel room adjoining the terminal to get a shower - made the long-ass trip from JFK to New Delhi *so* much easier.
