So what eleven bow ties should be part of every dapper gentleman's wardrobe?
One, the black silk bow tie. I think every man should have at least one black bow tie in silk because chances are you'll be invited to a tuxedo event; maybe it's a wedding, maybe a gala, maybe a formal evening event, and without it, you simply don't fit in and it's bad because you don't adhere to the dress code.
The second bow tie you should invest in is a navy one with white polka dots. Winston Churchill famously wore it, the tea magnate, Lipton and had one, and it's just one of those all-time classics that works well with dark suits as well as sport coats, tweed coats, or any other sport coat combination, and casual outfits.
The third bowtie you should invest in is a red silk micro pattern bowtie. It can be small dots it can be a larger pattern, maybe a diamond pattern, but red is just one of those colors and menswear that combines extremely well with any kind of dark suit.
The fourth bow tie you should invest in is the Prince of Wales check tie. The Prince of Wales check pattern is a very classic pattern you can find it in suits, you can find it in neckties, sometimes pocket squares, and even socks.
In case you want a larger pattern, I suggest you go with bowtie number five which is a houndstooth bowtie which is part of a Prince of Wales check but this one is just uniform, it's larger, and here you can see it in Silke bourette which is a thicker yarn, it has a different twist, it is a madder silk and therefore really well-suited to any kind of tweed outfit, maybe any kind of rustic outfit, anything with more texture basically.
The sixth bow tie you should invest in is a yellow bow tie. Ideally, you go with something in a pale tone simply because it combines better with traditional men's suit and sport coat colors because when you go too bright, it just stands out too much and it's harder to combine because it's a higher contrast.
The seventh bow tie you should invest in is a green bow tie. I think Green is one of the most underrated colors in menswear and we even did an entire video about that so please check that out because green is so versatile for bowties. I think for fall/winter, a darker green such as the British racing green or a bottle green is perfect. For spring/summer, a lighter green such as olive, or a maybe linen green, is perfect.
the eighth bowtie you should invest in is a striped bowtie. Traditionally, you have the repp stripe bow tie just like the one here with a red and blue stripe but that is quite good for traditional preppy outfits.
The ninth bowtie you should invest in if you live in any kind of warmer climates or if you go to warmer climates, is a linen bow tie. Sometimes blended with silk or wool, it just has a very summery character.
The tenth bow tie you should invest in is a Paisley bow tie. Paisley is an all-time classic, it's a pattern derived from India. It has been revived and reused in menswear and interior design over and over again.
The eleventh bow tie you should invest in is a velvet bow tie. The velvet fabric is very unique in a sense that it has a long nap because basically it is woven and then cut in the middle so it's very different than other kinds of fabrics and it's actually a relative of the corduroy fabric.

I imagine there's no problem with wearing skinny jeans or sagging with your underwear exposed, the ever popular "man purse" or just flat out cross dressing? Respects to Sven for sharing his insight. Unfortunately you can't give "tha Game" to those who love being Game Goofy. RockaBilly I think my best dressed teachers were my band and 11th grade math teachers. My band director wears diamond point and butterfly bowties, regular ties, flannels for flannel fridays sometimes, all around a well-dressed guy. My math teacher would pair a crisp dress shirt with a tie, vest or sweater vest, and grey dress pants, with a pair of Oxfords. What a man he is - his wit would crack us up so many times in class

Nice video, I agree with yellow, red and green bow ties versatility... I would suggest also a bright rose one, it pairs perfectly with dark blue suits. I honestly don't understand the fascination with Paisley pattern... I associate it with sofa cover and for me is such a casual nonsense pattern that has nothing to do with elegance.

i bought my first bowtie today. i bought a black one from c&a for 9,90 euro. i know its cheap but when you only get 15 euro a month and you dont have a job, its pretty hard to dress well. accept when you go to c&a tho cause they have the good stuff, even though its cheap, it still feels like the right thing to buy when compared to another store near it wich has belts costing about 60 euro or more. i like the content, keep it up.

Good video, informative but for someone who is just starting this to build a collection of bow ties it feels like you are giving them a general template. I feel that the reason people wear a bow tie is to standout from the cookie cutter ties, while there are people that wear bow ties which are pre made; to me being a complete waste of time and money. The idea of a bow tie is for it to pop. While i buy my bow ties and worry about matching later, i will agree that you have to have some basic colors in mind like blue, red, yellow, black and even white. But in general any color or type of design is welcome. How to tie the bow tie, is another conflicting piece of the total package. Right down to sizing the bow tie correctly to each person’s on taste. Silk bow ties are nice but as you said, for those of us that have rough facial hair, the bow ties tend to come apart. The classic blue polka dot and black polka dot bow ties are a must. They are hard to find in terms of material, quality and even the way the bow tie is design once is completed.

Generally, I would avoid neckwear without a jacket with maybe the exception of an ascot or a necktie. Basically, you are mixing multiple formality levels in a way that is difficult to do well. Also, your lines and body shape will come into play here majorly as the control you have with a jacket is no longer there. I also wouldn't wear a short sleeve shirt with anything except a plain neckerchief as you are now mixing formality and functionality in such a way that doesn't work. It would be like wearing a fedora with cargo shorts and a muscle Tee. In all your outfits remember that functionality also plays a major part of what makes an outfit garish and gaudy versus well planned. If you are wearing warm weather clothing, like a short sleeved white button front with beige, tan, or off-white pants, don't wear a dark colored felt homburg, as a homburg was designed for a colder climate. A straw boater or preferably a panama matches the functionality of the rest of the outfit. You will still stand out and look dressed to the nines, and people will understand your purpose. If your outfit serves no functionality, then you will look ignorant and not be able to use your outfit as the tool you want to use it for.
