Good video footage... Great idea man... We all know they look good in a package at the store, but what they look like in the water is much more important. Nicely done. I like the Marabou. Thanks

Michael, as someone who's now tying a lot of flyrod jigs to fish as dead-drift or minimally activated baitfish imitations, I'd appreciate seeing some underwater video from moving water. Your videos are eye-opening for flyrodders who've always tied their streamers on standard fly hooks.

Thanks a lot Greg. Great to hear that that my videos are useful. More stuff will be produced during spring. Water is so damn cold right now ;0)

Great video - I like to watch them under water to know how to fish/swim them best!! Marabou has such a nice action in the water but I have been looking for a hair/fur substitute, found that arctic fox is good for smaller jigs and been having excellent results with lambs wool (from "dust mops") for longer fibers. So far a bucktail core with a reverse tied lambs wool collar has been doing great for me - the smallmouth bass are quite enthusiastic about the orange & black color combination with all white and all black doing well also.
@MichaelJensensAngling4 жыл бұрын
I agree on the subs for marabou. Arctic fox is fabulous. I've used that a lot for small streamer flies as well. Hard to beat an all white or all black jig or streamer. Tight lines, Michael :0)

Even in Michigan waters? I know the brown is good for almost anything but mainly small mouth bass...what color for walleye? (Excellent video wow! Great looking jigs!)
@MichaelJensensAngling5 жыл бұрын
@@hellosweetheart3350 Thanks for your comment. Sorry i missed it in the first place. Regarding colours for Walleye - I feel it depends on the food sources available to the fish in your waters - and the depth you will be fishing. Check out my blog on color, light and visibility on this link: ahrexhooks.com/2018/11/08/fly-colour-light-and-visibility/ Tight lines, Michael :0)

Keep hearing to expect the strike on the fall of the jig yet I’ve seen just as many fish hooked by retrieving the jig straight back in with no movement of the rod or change of retrieval speed.
@MichaelJensensAngling Жыл бұрын
You are right about that. There is no wrong way to retrieve a jig. Experimenting with different methods of action, can save the day, though. Cheers, Michael :0)

It's no different then a fly fishermens streamer ! I've made me some shad ones today with white craft fur and 3 different flashbows cause one specific fly pattern I made with the same materials worked very well on speckled trout at night but it was very windy so I'm gonna purchase a spinner again and use the same thing but on a jig this time ! Cant wait to test it out especially on my favorite pier for spanish mackerel and other fish at night time that I couldnt hit up because of 20mph winds blowing my fly line back in my face
@MichaelJensensAngling5 жыл бұрын
You are right. Any streamer pattern can be converted to jig hooks. Jigging is a super effective, not only on windy days - but also when fish are deep on the dropoffs - or when you need to fire a lure out to feeding predators in a hurry. Give it a shot, and let me know how you are doing with the jigs. Tight lines, Michael :0)
