In my experience, the receptionist and cashiers asked for my passport and boarding pass, so bring them with you. :) I guess it’s required for Duty (Tax) Free shops.

@@chronic1968 hi! I am not sure. But at that time, I read it I will need a transit visa if I don’t have a a certain passport. I believe you can go out for a certain # of days if you have a certain passport. Also, make sure you have enough time in your layover. If i’m not mistaken, you need to pass through immigration and customs upon returning to the airport. Plus the nearby city will take 45-60 mins by train. Good luck!

Just a note. If you have a long layover in ICN in the future, leave the airport. That tiny Walkerhill is over $100 (USD) a night. If you walk out of the airport, you have your choice of two 4-stars that're very nearby: Best Western Premier and Ibis Styles. Both are less than $70 a night, don't have 6-hour time limits like many other airport transit hotels, and offer "real" rooms with windows!

Hello! I don’t remember going through security check when I arrived at ICN Terminal 2. I just went to the upper floor where the shops and services are via escalator. Even before boarding my flight from ICN to US, I just boarded with my personal baggage and carry-on baggage immediately (after they checked my passport and boarding pass). Also, I didn’t have to check in my check-in baggages again. Maybe security checks are present when you pass certain gates. I don’t have KOR visa so I was cautious in entering certain gates. I think passengers w layovers are only allowed to stay at certain places. There was a staff before the gate so I just asked where to go. I didn’t follow the crowd since not all of the passengers from my flight have a layover like me, some have Korea as their destination. Maybe that’s why the hotel staff mentioned I’ll have to pass through customs if I go to the capsule hotel at the other terminal. Hope this helps! :)

Hello, Ria! Hmm. I don’t remember them asking for my visa. I do remember showing them my passport with my boarding pass during boarding and some of the stores. I don’t have a KOR Visa or the K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Auth) if that’s what you mean. I only have a US Visa. I hope this helps. :)

Generally if one stays inside the airport's security perimeter, they won't ask for visas. However, my experience at ICN in February, 2023, made all that immaterial. There are gates in the airport's Concourse area and once there on a connecting flight, one is not allowed to visit either Terminal 1 or 2. I'd planned on visiting a Lounge in 1 and taking a shower, but was trapped! (there are no Lounges in the Concourse)

How easy it to find openings at the hotel when you have a layover for a few hours?

Hi! Took me about 15mins to find my way to the Transit Hotel. I arrived around 4:00 am and there were no available rooms. I was able to book the day hours 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. So I had to wait around 4 hours I guess.

I would like to know what time exactly you check in for hotel transit? What I read online they say only allow check in from 7pm. Mean while next month my layover start from 5am there until 4pm. Thank you.

Hello! I checked in at 8am :) If I remember correctly, you can either stay during the night hours (8pm to 8am) or during the day hours (8am to 8pm). Note that this was late last year. There is a certain rate when you check in during night hours and another certain rate when you check in during day hours. I think day hour rate was cheaper (at that time). In my case, it was $52 but it’s for 6 hours. Idk how much if you stay longer. I arrived before 4am and all rooms were sold out. I checked in 8am and checked out 2pm. In your case, if you check in around 5am, you’ll be charged night hours. I don’t know if you can extend to day hours. Hope I made sense and hope this helps. Let us know here if there are corrections/changes during your layover :)

@@miiikasa I am really grateful for this helpful information. Guess what ?? my flight schedule happened to be same like yours. They allow me check in at 8am tho Not 5:30 am when I yea landed that early lol. All room was sold out as well. Same rates as well per you mentioned. Day rates is cheaper and minimum 5 hours to stay. Nothing much changes as of September 2023.

Hiii. Thank youu. Wish I could help you but I just stayed in terminal 2. I recommend asking a staff instead. I think it’s in $. In time stamp 12:34, it’s $8. In time stamp 12:14, there’s a little $ sign so it’s $20. You can try asking them prior. Hope this helps! Safe trip.

Hi! Were you a K1 visa holder? Coz I am one and I heard from one person that she was able to do a transit tour without a K-ETA or Kor visa, she just had to show immigration her valid US visa and flight ticket and she was allowed entry. I am hoping to do the same for a 13-hr layover ☺️
