Hi Blair, do you feel the same about the Dawn Redwood? I live in Iowa and I was planning on planting a Dawn Redwood in my backyard about 75 ft from my house. This video has me second guessing if that is something I should do. Thanks!

The Dawn Redwood does not grow quite as large. They look dead in the winter. Do it

Hi Blair. Great video. Walking past a fallen Redwood in the forest I noticed it was still living. I also noticed that a large portion of the tree was cut and moved off the path leaving 3 separate sections of the tree. The tree still continued to live and sprout growth. From the looks of things the tree looked to have fallen decades ago. Is this a natural form of cloning in the wild? How is this possible, Is the tree just slowly dying?

Great food for thought for any new planting I may do; however the few I have, I'd like to keep. I want them to grow more and become disease resistant. Do you ever put injections in Redwoods, or any deep root fertilizations? Thanks for the videos. I love the methodical thought process you take with each tree and scenario!

Andrew P. Not a user of injections, not a fan. Fertilize only when needed and understand why

arboristBlairGlenn I thought I heard that in other videos. I had an arborist come out and he recommended those two options. Also stated that soil is salty. What would you do? They're dropping a bit of brown but since I aerated my lawn last month, I've seen new growth all over them. Southern California. 25 year old trees.

Andrew P. Salty soil? Reclaimed water? Fertilizers add salinity, be careful

arboristBlairGlenn thank you for the information and advice. It's city water, not recycled. I know it's hard to give ideas when you can't see the tree, but I thank you very much anyhow.

Why would they grow faster in urban areas than in the wild?
@arboristBlairGlenn7 жыл бұрын
Brad S in the forest, the trees are overshadowed by the older trees. Very little sunlight equals slow growth. Also, urban irrigation
