Are the redwood sprouts that grow around the stump of a chopped down redwood actually genetic clones of the mother? I have a few 'fairy rings' of three to five (tall) redwood trees growing tightly around big old stumps, and I've been wondering about this.

What kind of fungi do you have in america that can "decompose" the wood of a Sequoia or a Sequoiadendron fast enough to cause a threat?

Is there major targets in the fall zone of this tree? If not, might a cable system be a more viable option for retaining the esthetics and cost savings?
