I still have my grandmother's sansevieria... or snake plant. She passed away in 1973. She had that plant for at least 10 years before she passed away. I'm in the process of dividing the plant again and sharing it with siblings. This is an old plant!

🥰Aww… I’m in the same boat!! Hence, why I looked up this video! My grandma passed away almost 2 years ago. 💙🙏🏼I have several of her plants as nobody wanted to take them… Her African violet she started right before she passed away with one leaf and now it’s absolutely stunning! Although, it is pot bound and I’m really nervous to repot it!

I have a snake plant that was starting to show signs of something not right, I took it into a green house to have it replanted into something with better drainage and sure enough she pointed out the roots were collapsed from the added weight and the water wasn't evaporating quickly enough. She added in a lot more perlite into the dirt. I'm glad I took it in, I knew something was wrong and looks like I caught it in time. Never picking out a plant with no drainage never again. They even had me stick my fingers into the dirt to feel what was consider not watering time. I've had the plant for three years and there is a lot of new growth. It's not doing too bad but it could be doing better. Thanks to these videos I figured out my snake plant was in trouble.

That "stay dry" was in conjunction with the they "really like more drainage than was said in the video" because drainage makes the soil dry out quicker. She doesn't go over HOW MUCH drainage very clearly.

Don't water it where the water goes down into the leaf bottoms. That slowly suffocates it. Only water around the edge, not going into the plant stems.
@ameliaandes7974 жыл бұрын
I water my snake plants after the dirt on top breaks apart and sort of creates tiny sinkholes just to make sure it needs water. (I used the moisture meter before on the snake plants...it depends on your comfort level. ) I water thoroughly only on top soil and leave a saucer with water covering the botton of the pot for a few minutes (4mins) to wet the bottom soil so the roots reach down. (Making the plant believe that there's an underground river. 😅) Don't want short roots because the tall leaves might tip over. I keep the medium that the plant came in from the store. The lady in the video have heavy pots.. I can't carry them to a near sink or bring a hose blah, blah. My snakes plants are easy going 😍not fuzz compared to my other plants including the aloevera 😔. Me: Aloevera, you know other aloeveras are easy to care for. Aloevera: I don't like this light or this corner or this area or this new soil. More water, I am wrinkling. Less water, my leaves are soft. But the meter moisture says... Me:😭😭

Animuz also ironic you’re in the comments suggesting of brands NOT to use. If I haven’t read your other comments, I WOULD buy miracle grow because that’s the 1st that comes up when you type in “cactus mix;” even from watching the video... I would have done the same. Next time you could frame your answer/ insight whatever you want to call it as if you generally are trying to help. Rather than try to decipher with sarcasm if I indeed “watched” the video or not.
