The snake plant I have has become a GIANT! It was smaller than one of those small snake plants you have in this video, but I had to keep putting it in larger and larger pots, and now it is over 4 and a half feet tall, and over 2 feet thick! It just grows and grows and grows! Its pot is near my glass front door, so it gets lots of late afternoon sunshine, but it's getting so enormous! Its pot is on one of those stands with wheels, or else it would be impossible to move. It was on the front porch, just outside the glass door, but since bringing it in a couple winters ago, its place inside the door has become its home. It had become so huge we could hardly get through the door! Why are all your snake plants so small after a decade? Mine just grows and grows and grows! I water it about every 3 weeks in the growing months, but only very, very lightly during the dormant months. I don't believe we can transplant it again because of its enormous weight, so I don't know how long it can remain in the big pot its growing in. I read they like being pot-bound, but don't know how long than can last. Thanks for your informative videos and happy planting! kristi

Hahahaha I'm watching this because I have a sansevieria that must be about 30 years old, but I keep repotting into a smaller pot. It's now in a 6 inch pot! It hardly has any roots and it's floppy. So I was doing everything wrong, not enough light too much water, so I'm going to up the light and stop watering so much and see what happens. To be fair I was only watering once a week but since it was in a huge pot with no roots .......😮

What happened to your friend about their plant being in the incorrect potting mix happened to me as well. I got a snake plant like 2 weeks ago at Walmart and the poor thing was panted in plain coconut coir. So I went to the craft se ting and got a bag of sand and when I got home I immediately took it out the pot, remove as much coconut coir as possible and add sand and orchid bark. Now it’s happier

I have had sansevieria for many years. I have always watered them lightly once a week and yet I always had drooping leaves. I recently cut off all the drooping leaves from two of the pots and cut back watering drastically. They are doing great, better than ever. One leaf is now 39" tall. I have also taken some of the cuttings and six out of nine cuttings have new growth. I also have had cactus for over forty years and found that watering for one person may differ greatly from another with the same plants.

I can relate to the girls at target buying the fake snake plants! 😅 Due to having kids in the house or pets etc knocking the plant over & having soil spilled. I got a fake one to test this out & yes my two year old loved to play with the fake snake plant leaves🪴 as I put it next to our tv. Great & informative video! I just purchased a real one & will put it in a higher location.

Loved your video and thank you for the info. We got ours from Walmart and it shipped over around Thanksgiving time (with a heat pack in the box, along with a peace lily and monstera adansonii). The soil medium it came in was not the best (and was a bit moist and dark), but I removed some/most of it and loosened the root ball. I'm not sure if maybe I compacted the potting soil too much, but that soil came from a planter that was outside, with a previous plants roots still in the pot, and it was pretty moist throughout from the recent rain. The outside soil was a standard potting mix, with perlite in it as well, but I needed to use a scissor to cut through the roots to be able to move the soil into my ceramic pot for the snake plant, so I cut through some/most of the perlite as well, making the bits smaller. The plant soon developed a squishy leaf which has since crunched up and browned almost completely (there is one next to it that was partially crunchy and browned when I first received the plant, but it's also still partially alive). The other pieces appear to be doing fine, and some have new growths (one of them has a browned new growth). My question is, do I need to prune/remove the browned leaves? Can I leave the partially brown leaf, or does that need to be removed as well? If you can, maybe you can diagnose why it might have browned so quickly on those areas? My guess is too much water was in the soil, but not sure if I also compacted it too much, of which there is a good chance. Maybe pot size has something to do with it, but I'm looking at yours and they appear to be doing great, in spite of smaller pots (compared to plant size), and mine also being in front of a gas radiator, which is in front of a window (not sure if that would make it too humid, or too cold - not a lot of sun lately, in the NE)?

suzanne here, after 40 plus years of growing these i will just say that they are NOT low light plants, they need bright light and sun shine, just not in a south window, i water once a month period, and when i take cuttings, i only root the very tip ends, in water and change it every other day, just the tips, this works i find excellent, and no rot

Hi... ***The snake plant is beneficial in that it is an 'air filter'❣️ Good for the bedroom especially, and I've read it helps air flow as well 😊 I've had my three for about 17 yr now, and are at least 3x as thick as urs... 😊 Not criticising you at all... Loved ur video. And... Don't scream... But the only way I had heard to separate/propagate, was to cut the roots! 😳😬🙄 But they're all very healthy n happy. 😁 Prob 18" wide and 3 ft tall❣️ So, I guess I'm doing something right. 😉 But thanx for all ur good info... Great especially for those w orange or purple thumbs... 😃😁😅 Enjoy ur day. 🥰 Miss Meg

It isn't just "an" air filter, it is one of the best (if not the very best) plants for this purpose. I've propagated a lot of them by cutting the roots and separating them. It's nice because after you repot them, the plant looks like it has been growing in the pot for quite a while, unlike the results from propagating from cuttings or water (which I had never seen done before this video).

Enjoyed the video but one thing you didn't mention that many people don't know. If you propagate a variegated plant from cutting, you'll end up with an all green plant. You need to divide a variegated plant to keep the variegation and you can't grow a variegated plant from an all green plant.

If I put it in my bedroom or bathroom, how often should I put it outside to get some sunlight? I don’t have direct sunlight or even low sunlight in either room so I was just curious if I should put it out in the sun for a certain amount of time everyday or week. I don’t want them to get to much bigger or make babies, just to pretty much stay the same but stay alive lol. And what potting mix would you recommend so I know what to buy at the store? I’m completely new to having plants so I’m so confused lol

Hi... does your bathroom or bedroom has some light or even a small window? if your goal is just to keep them alive, guess a window for source of light should be ok. For type of soil- I would suggest to use good draining mix.
