Oh well that was very informative appreciate the video what I learned are the following : 1) when purchasing look for a green bright plant with thick cuticle, and no burn on its edges or black spots on it, which would indicate it have fungus. 2) do not immediately repot it let it in the nursery container for a while before switching. 3) water it when it is bone dry, otherwise it might have fungus or root rot. 4) place it in a place where it has indirect sunlight. direct sunlight might make its colour look faded 5) when cutting it cut it from the bottom at a soil level to avoid it not looking burned and unpleasant otherwise it's alright to cut it at whatever length. 6) give it a fertilizer 3 times a year any fertilizer works at its activate periods, mix it with water to dilute it. 7)wipe it buy using a fiber tiscue that is wet. 8) spray it with a pestsizer or green soap with water in case of a pest issue. generally water it less and it's good, It's an excellent choice for your bedroom as the plant is active taking out VOC. excellent in your house and can withstand darkness but prefer getting exposed to indirect sunlight.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make them ! I can't wait to see the next one ! Love it. It is indeed really easy to take care of. I have mine for a year now, and what I noticed is that the first 7-8 months it didn't grow at all, but now a year later, I have a beautiful mother plant with two babies beside her. They are stunning, growing really fast and it's interesting to watch. I have my plant on an east spot, with a lot of light daily, and some little sun in the morning hours. Watering twice a month, but before that, always inspect the medium. It is truely a stunning plant when you give it the right conditions and needs(altought it can survive anything, except too much water). I do recommend this beauty. It will make your home look more premium. :) Thanks for the video, good information well shared.

Brilliant video, thank you, and greetings from the UK. I have three varieties of Sansevieria and was so pleased to hear that I am caring for mine correctly, especially on not watering until bone dry. Though, one brilliant tip I was given on soil for repotting snake plants was to use half African Violet soil mix with half Cactus/Succulent mix - My snake plants have loved it and have been growing like crazy since, sporting bright shiny leaves. Thank you again for your wonderfully insightful lessons.

My favorite is Sansevieria 'Moonshine,' which I have grown for many years. I have found it grows quite tall in a very small pot: in a 3.75 inch diameter ceramic pot, I have leaves that range from 25 to 30 inches tall in a bright window. Another is quite dense and tall in a 5 inch bonsai cascade pot. Has anyone else had the experience growing Sansevieria in small pots? This is an excellent comprehensive video.

.. I have a Moonshine too and it is a Beauty really 🤗 I've got mine in a west window (sometimes in East window) and she loves it.. From May I take them outside on my front porch where they have a couple of hours of morning sun, and bright light but shade for the rest of the day.. I bring them back in around October, and meanwhile they have grown a lot and become so beautiful.. My Laurentii have bloomed too, from being in the window and outside.. I only water when I remember them 😳 maybe once a month or every other month.. I wish you all the best of luck ☘️🤗

Thank you so much for this video. I was feeling so guilty for killing quite a few Sansevieria plants this week after filling the self watering reservoir so the red bobber was at the top of the glass tube. I thought that would keep them exactly as wet as they required. I work as a plant care tech and on my next visit(2 weeks} the plants were rotting and falling over. I blamed myself for trusting the self watering device, but now I suspect that the soil in the pots was too heavy and needed more pumice (or something) to keep it from sucking up so much water into the soil. I feel less guilty now, thank you! (This job is making me a nervous wreck!! lol).

This is one of those plants that likes dry soil until it’s thirsty but be careful when buying from a box store. I have one that was doing so wonderfully for awhile I wasn’t overwatering but all of the sudden stems started to rot even though the soil was dry all the way through I even used a meter to test. So I decided to remove the soil and the roots were long and healthy and the soil around the outside was surprisingly a little damp but the center completely bone dry , so I started to loosen all the soil and I was surprised to find a damp sponge wrapped around the inside of the stems; no wonder there was root rot going on I had no idea that sponge was there. I don’t know why plant nurseries would do this to a drought resistant plant.

Thank you so much for this wonderful advice. I have two Sansevieras, one I have had for almost two years. I re-potted it a year ago, but I think the post may have been a little too large. However, it is thriving three feet from my window with little shoots coming through. Your advice on the size of pot to use is very useful. After repotting second one I purchased (too soon, I think), it began to fall apart. I think I made a mistake by using a sandy soil, but having said that, I can see tiny leaves coming through...... hopefully it will thrive. Thanks again!

Thank you for the thorough guide about 'snake plants/sansevierias/whatevertheirnameisnow'. These are some of my favorite plants and I have quite a few. The uncommon or rare varieties are impossible to find in garden centers and I'm not going to join the madness online, with tiny plants going for a LOT of money. To me, they're not worth that, but I have other hobbies that do find me spend a lot of money on stuff (books, for example, and calibrated weights for my home gym). I know you can take a cutting of most plants and have it grow from there, if you know what you're doing, so to me the deluxe prices are just deliberately created to make a buck and to lure out collectors and people whose ego is stroked when they have rare things they can boast about. Besides, it's not uncommon that the weakest of plants fetch the highest prices, like plants with large parts unable to produce energy (looks cool to many, but I see weakness). Okay, if someone were to create a Monstera deliciosa with golden-edged leaves and silvery stems, sign me up :) Would also be nice if it talks to me and says whether it needs more or less water. I started pretty much with the Kirkii 'Friends', which is an interesting one to begin with. When they flower, they smell incredible. I guess some might find the smell nauseating, but I like it. Their flowering does take a lot out of the plant and one time I made the mistake of babying it, which caused root rot. Still managed to salvage some of that individual, and I now have a whole forest of them. It's true these and other sansevierias can handle a lot of neglect. I actually have the tendency to be too nice to plants, but some of my sansevierias started to take off like a rocket when I didn't have them around me all the time during a time when I was moving a lot from apartment to apartment and had the plants stored somewhere with still pretty good lighting (but definitely no excess water). They do thrive when they get a lot of (in)direct light. I can't bear to think to put these in a dark corner. I leave that up to people who just want to fill up corners of their house because they ran out of furniture to put there. I think of plants first and furniture second.

Some years ago, far in the back corner of our property in South Florida there was a roughly 20 foot by 30 foot patch, or thicket of some type of Sansevieria plants partly shaded by an enormous Avocado tree. The whole property was very sandy well drained soil and I guess those plants liked it. "Thicket" is probably the best word to describe it as it grew very thickly with zero space between plants. You could not even see the ground anywhere in that patch of snake plant. It grew close together like the blades of some giant grass and probably 20, or so, inches tall. No one planted it, or tended it. It just grew there and it was watered by the rain. We didn't use that corner of the back area, so we just let it grow. When I arrived there, the patch was perhaps 6 feet by 8 feet. Years later when I moved, it was at least 20 by about 30 feet, perhaps. I never measured it. I should have taken a picture of it. It was unusual to see that many of those plants just growing wild and so extremely thickly together. The property was sort of in the country back then and we had many interesting plants, trees, and animals there. Thank you for stirring a nice old memory. I don't know if anyone is interested, but just thought I'd share it. Love your videos. Great information and well presented. Just found them today and subscribed! Thank you.
