Yea but I gotta give credit where credit is due.....Peter Jackson before he was well known for making Lord Of The Ring films back in his earlier movie making days with hardly any money made one of the biggest cult followings with the film "Dead Alive aka Brain Dead" it may not have the best storyline or whatever but that movie was definitely memorable for all the blood and Gore and special FX's in that movie and I think it was like only his 2nd film he ever made the first being "Bad Taste" but I agree The Thing has some of the best effects in a movie ever

You can suggest it yourself for it to be added to The National Film Registry (you can send them up to 50 choices per year, of your own choosing). 25 selections are made by The Registry every Dec. (almost that time). I think "The Thing" is impressive, but I must point out the clear influence it had from 1978's "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers", which I've been suggesting & which I think is far superior to the 1956 original (which they've already added). Btw, regarding films that have similar premises to these, I'd recommend "The Hidden" (1987), "They Live" (1988) & "Fallen" (1998). Finally, I personally prefer the original "The Blob" to the remake.

The only thing you missed about Harbinger Down is the fact that the entire reason for its existence is a response to the makers of the practical SFX of 2011's The Thing being cut in favor of crappy CGI effects. Many of the practicals from 2011's film were actually used in the 2015 flick.

Harbinger Down was also a direct response from Gillis and Woodruff Jr.'s experience working on The Thing 2011. After having the studio basically toss out most of their practical effects in favor of (kind of poor) CGI, they brainstormed Harbinger Down as a vehicle to showcase the practical effects that they had planned to use for The Thing 2011. Personally, I think they did a great job of it, with minimal CGI. But the film could've used a bit more creativity in the lighting, to make the effects really pop.

Great cast, and Kurt Russell reached a really high level of acting (for me he is one of the most amazing actors ever, other then a '80s icon) The soundtrak of Ennio Morricone was epic, specially in the final scene. A few of the movie suggestions seem to be purely based on the premise that "there is snow". Otherwise I feel we'd get more movies focused on practical effects, body horror and themes of paranoia/isolation. Harbinger Down was made by the special effects team that got shafted by the board behind the Thing Prequel movie and should be top billing alongside Void. Otherwise decent list and good positive framing overall. Slither or Bite or Event Horizon would have been excellent suggestions to include.

Virus (1999) Jamie Lee Curtis & Donald Sutherland would have been more at home on this list than several of these. Slither (2006) also, which brings to mind Night of the Creeps (1986) too. I mean, Night of the Creeps had it all. A wise cracking detective, aliens, zombies, sorority slashing, body horror. A fun watch. Oh yeah and Deep Rising (1998) too. The way Virus and Deep Rising accomplish the same isolation as The Thing is to have it take place on a ship. Virus was about an alien invader that "hacks" both machinery and biological organisms. So picture The Thing, but it'll grab your phone and laptop and combine them with you. The protagonist has to stop it before it gets off the ship. You have to remember that people were very afraid of hackers back in the 90's. Very scary. lol For that matter The Borg were maybe influenced by that kind of combining technology and biological systems, body horror idea a bit. The premise of Virus brings to mind Moontrap (1989). A good watch starring Walter Koenig. Alien robots that incorporate body parts into themselves. Also Screamers (1995).

Was this written by an algorithm? Most people who like John Carpenter's "The Thing" (or should I say "John Carpenter's 1982 sci-fi thriller The Thing") do NOT like the terrible prequel. Also the second FILM you recommend is a TV episode? There were SO many better films than a TV show episode left out. "The thing secretly inhabits its GHOSTS" - Nobody figured out the line was supposed to be 'hosts?' I know the people reading are probably just work-for-hires, but does anyone proofread this stuff, or at least direct or edit for content? After some mistakes in the part about the Thing prequel you then call the next movie Harbinger Down - You say "Berrenger Down" - I think Tom Berrenger might have something to say about that. 10 Cloverfield Lane - It's pronounced "Dan TRACK-TEN-BURG". There are several more issues, but please get people to read and then listen to these things before publishing.
