@@mugwump7049 Cube was a mess, you don't even get to figure out what is going on despite the multitude of sequels and there was next to no character development. Invasion of the Bodysnatchers I don't particularly agree with, but it is opinion based, so maybe they just have a differing opinion. But the rest have pretty valid reasons in their own respective ways imo. And maybe Bodysnatchers does too and we just aren't calculating it by the same criteria as the rater.
@zmbdog4 жыл бұрын
What exactly is it that you think "lost" means? _Death in Space_ , _The Transformation_ , _The Space-Watch Murders_ , these are lost sci-fi horror. Nothing on this list is. As an archivist I hate seeing the term 'lost' applied so erroneously to film like this. Reddit and lostmediawiki do the same. It makes it near impossible to get the word out on modern films that may be genuinely lost if home copies aren't found like _today_ . It's already several years too late for many first-generation TV films. Stuff like this makes the term meaningless to people. If I say "1974's _House of Evil_ is LOST, unless someone has an off-air recording", they don't take it literally. They just think I'm looking for a film I haven't seen on TV for awhile rather than a film that may only exist via a 40-year-old homemade copy, i.e. it needs to be backed up and sent to an archive, DON'T THROW IT AWAY! .

@ London After Midnight was exactly the film I thought of when the title to the post was "lost" Sci Fi / horror, even though LAM isn't sci fi. The most famous lost film of all... GREED! I'd love to see the 9 hour Stroheim original cut... once. I've seen the patchwork version on TCM that's like 4 hours long.
@xunk164 жыл бұрын
@ I have loved that show when I was young. (Used to watch it with my grandfather.) I grew up, the internet came with the promise to save and archive everything, make everything available... One day I'm thinking to myself : "What if I just found that show and watched it from the beginning? How did it all began?" Then this hit me... Somehow, at the time, it wasn't enough important to save that show. No one yet knew how important it would be, how iconic it would become. (To the point it is used as a marker of the era in Outlander's 1960s scenes!) And there it is. Some other gems, like the original Metropolis, will never be restored completely. Physical pirate copies is all that saved what we are now able to watch. Somehow, I do not believe the streaming services will be better in that department. Someone should make them accountable of the task to archive their own stuff. Even if only through a "print on demand" service. One day, our kids might thank us to have saved these titles too.

I've been looking for the names of two old sci-fi films that I saw parts of as a kid....if anyone can help identify them it would be greatly appreciated. Film #1. This came out in theaters sometime between 1975 and 1977. It was a space movie (I think) about warriors being recruited/summoned to a fight either here on earth or on another planet. Small glowing spheres about an inch in diameter would appear near them to let them know they were being called upon to fight. One sphere appeared in someone's drink looking like a glowing round ice cube. That's all I really know about it, I saw that scene standing in the doorway of the theater before my stepbrother ripped me away from the door because I wasn't old enough to watch it. Film #2. This was on Saturday Sci-Fi TV sometime in the mid 80's so I'm guessing it was made slightly before 1985 to 1986. An alien crashes on earth somewhere in a desert town looking roughly like Arizona. The alien dies but has a pendant that a curly haired blonde kid picks up and starts wearing, and it starts changing his personality for the worse as well as giving him crude powers. It actually starts "melting" into his chest (molding the shape of the pendant into his skin) and eventually turns him into the alien that crashed, where a good alien arrives and a fight ensues, good alien kills bad alien and leaves the planet with the pendant. I've been trying to find the titles of these movies for years so if anyone knows them and can identify them it would be awesome.

Anyone else watch this channel just to hear the narrator mispronounce simple words? Just me? Okay.

Are you sure the narrator is human?

Well, yes, but I was also attracted to the use of phrases like "the acting performances". I was half expecting a comment like "and the action sequences were filled with a lot of action scenes".

Yes. Nicole Kidman started in a bland remake of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” in 2007 (“The Invasion”) but you skipped right over the 1993 Abel Ferrara remake, “Body Snatchers.” I love Ferrara’s version, one I’ve long considered undervalued. Ferrara’s movie-like pretty much every AF movie-is a meditation upon the nature of evil, but it takes an interesting place in the spectrum of Body Snatcher movies. Siegel’s movie grows in the shadow of McCarthyism, and Kaufman’s is informed by 70s psychobabble, but Ferrara takes a teenage girl as his viewpoint character. Though Ferrara sets his “Body Snatchers” on a US military base, his alien mimics threatening to take over the whole world with the usurped power an mobility of the US armed forces, but that threat is actually a minor thread in the AF “ Body Snatchers.” Ferrara’s protagonist is surrounded by people she already sees as alien beings: military men devoid of affect, a pre-teen sibling, a pretty young stepmother. Each time she’s forced to kill, she walks away not knowing whether she’s killed an enemy or an innocent.

Please tell me that “Kale” McCoughlin was an intentional play on how Lynch says his name.

Damn I've been searching for years for Phase IV...... I've seen it as a kid in the 80's but couldn't remember the name! Thanks for that!

I've seen "Cube" several times, as well as it's sequels, so it isn't really lost. "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" has a cult following, and "The girl With All the Gifts" is on Netflix right now.

These lists never mention one that is always overlooked. Galaxy of Terror, an Kudos for mentioning the Laith of Heaven. Another classic nobody saw. Saturn 3 and Lifeforce. Really I don't understand why there aren't many sci fi horror books. Plenty of great movies but sci fi horror books are nearly impossible to find, and it doesn't even have a genre classification category to find in book stores.. probably because so few ever get written. Its really a wide open field for writers.

There are at least 2 versions of Lathe of Heaven, maybe 3.

great videos! just one suggestion. use this guy way less or not at all. his voice and inflection is irritating. it seems like you use him for most videos
@stevenvenn4 жыл бұрын
The guy delivers the read like “Oh my god, can you believe this?” Totally wrong kind of delivery style for genre film summaries.

If they did remakes of these two movies they would put all of that CGI garbage in it and it wouldn't come out good.

you may have mentioned that it is a sequel to Cube ,its colled Hypercube and Cube Zero ,I recommend it, although the Hypercube is weak,but still worth watching for the answer, and Cube zero, back to the roots,nice ✌️✌️✌️

I had never heard of the Hidden before - will definitely check it out. I feel like that is def a hidden gem, i have never seen it mentioned ok the internet or anywhere else! Maybe all the other great films of the late 80s overshadowed it

I remember watching Dark Star on late-night network TV, as a kid. I later got the DVD, which included the theatrical and director's cuts. What made me chuckle is that the DC is a few minutes shorter than the thatrical...Carpenter wanted to omit some scenes the studio kept in.
