I am an obesity doctor based in London, UK and your video is truly fantastic. I learn the most from listening to the experiences of our patients so i want to thank you for sharing your experience which is common to so many patients i see after surgery. Thank you Melissa, with best wishes. P.s., Obesity is a chronic disease which requires lifelong management, and you are managing it so well Melissa, congratulations

I just barely saw your comment Doctor. I wanted to say thank you. There are so many nuances to having this surgery. And I don't think people really understand that it's as much psychological as it is physiological.

I wish you were not so expensive so much so that most people risk their lives going to Turkey. My gp won't even listen to me so I'm now doing my own research to go to Turkey this summer and you won't believe how many stories of botched surgery and people dying over there I'm going across during this research.

I am a Registered Dietitian and a post-op gastric surgery patient too. Yes, not all dietitians are super skinny, but in my 22 years in my profession have seen that all dietitians have disordered eating. This is one reason why we chose this profession. I had my LapBand placed in 2009 and I lost 83lbs total. What helped me the most was my therapist. For all patients who are thinking about WLS, know that the mental part of it is the hardest. However, with the right therapist, you can unpack some of the baggage and discover the source of your overeating once and for all. Thank you Melissa for enlightening people on this topic. I too, mourned the loss of my best friend (food) for about 2 years post op. Another thing to mention is that skin removal surgery is expensive! Start planning for how you're going to pay for it. There's nothing like losing 100lbs and still hating how you feel and look with all the excess skin dripping from your smaller frame. Clothes won't fit properly and your true size is waiting to be revealed under the excess skin. You will also look a LOT older because the fat from your face will be greatly diminished and there will be tons of wrinkles and jiggly skin, especially on the neck. It's when I got all the excess skin removed, that I truly felt skinnier. Body dysmorphia is prevalent and needs to be addressed with your therapist too.

Hello @@omadjourney! If you are still searching for the right hospital option in Turkey, I strongly recommmend you to do some research on Acıbadem Hospital. Never go for the clinics mostly working under unproper conditions just because they have a famous doctor and successfull social media accounts.

I went from 470 down to 160. 60" waist (Sz 6X) to a 29" waist (sz 10). I was still considered "overweight" by medical standards and I looked Anorexic and felt just as insecure about that as I did about being super sized. The Peanut Gallery once were telling me that I'd be so pretty if I just lost the weight to telling me that I needed to stop losing weight because I looked sickly. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I am 12 years out and the physical issues that I've had in the past decade due to the surgery persist. I have to wear loose clothing as waist bands and wearing bras cause tremendous stomachaches that stop whatever I'm doing until they subside. I have to have intravenous Iron infusions as I struggle with such bad Anemia that my oxygen depraved red blood cells collapse and look like flat tires under the microscope. The severe Anemia causes me to be short of breath, causes my muscles to cramp so badly that I cannot walk, causes chronic headaches and brain fog. I thought I was developing early onset Alzheimer's before I was told it was due to the Anemia, my brain doesn't get enough oxygen. Was surgery worth it? The answer is a mixed bag for me. On one hand, It saved me from dying at 32. On the other hand, the quality of my life has not improved by the weight loss. I just have different health issues to contend with. Nothing about this surgery and the journey after the fact has been easy. The greatest positive from the entire process is that I have learned to mute the peanut gallery. Nothing anyone thinks or can say bothers me anymore because I do not have to fit into that box they live in. Obesity is more a psychological issue than a physical issue. The head is the toughest opponent to defeat in my opinion.

I feel like a failure with my emmotional eating. Strongly considering surgery... Now, I hear you. Honesty. I don't want to have worse issues than I started with. I am over 65, have almost constant A FIB, cannot take pain meds for after surgery... Have sleep apnea without snoring, etc. Your sad experience has pushed me away from the thought of surgery. I thank you. I am sure that your story will help others too. I will be sending positive thoughts to God and to the Universe to help and to guide you. This is Mrs. Ace X, in Florida.

This is one of the main things that kept me from surgery. I have never met someone who has led a full and healthy life after bypass. Not totally. Most have a bunch of other issues that seem to have gotten worse instead of better with bypass, quite a few have eating disorders, and the one I know who is happiest still has to keep changes of clothing with her in the car because she gets dumping syndrome and fecal incontinence at the drop of a hat.

I lost 100lbs on my own in 1 year through lifestyle changes. I taught myself about nutrition & began water aerobics 7 days a week after work. Toward the beginning of the next year I endured 2 major health difficulties & my weight plateaued. Nothing more would come off & I began feeling the effects of the health complications. So I had Gastric Bypass surgery about 2 yrs later. That was 15 years ago and I have learned allot. It is very easy to become malnourished & dehydrated! I still experience nausea & vomiting every week. Whomever says having this surgery is “taking the easy way out” has no idea what they are talking about & it aggravates me so badly. The surgery affects one for the rest of their lives.🌺

Don't assume people have no idea. I already know 3 people who bariatric surgery and regret so badly. One is dying from the complications and all 3 gained more than the weight back within 3 years. A fourth did not have complications but gained all the weight back within 2 years. Making the decision to get the Surgery is the easy way out but the after effects of the surgery aren't easy at all. I'm really glad it worked out for you and people should be nothing but supportive of peoples personal decision. It can be a life saving procedure for many.

@@tomjones2157 not tryna be nosy in the comments BUT I am. So please forgive me for giving my 2 cents. As a stranger reading this, don't you think it's a bit, ok a lot insensitive to leave such a negative comment? Melissa already had the surgery, why leave horror stories to get in her head?! You know what I mean? I'm sure you mean no harm and only sharing what you know BUT sometimes we have to think before we start typing this stuff. If it isn't uplifting or helpful, maybe just don't share the negatives. I can't imagine your comment made her feel good or helped her in any way. Not being a jerk towards you but I just wanted to share my feelings after reading your comment. I also don't think the decision to get the surgery is the easy way out at all. Melissa is brave and inspiring and I'm so proud of her.

I became an alcoholic and my life became very dark. It's a common problem with weight loss patients and I know several people who had the same problem. I am now in AA 2.5 years sober, PRAISE GOD! Thank you! I had people talk trash to me about it. Because I didnt fit their criteria of a person who should get weight loss surgery. I lost 30 on my own and the remaining 60 from the sleeve and changing my life style. I had hardly any muscle. So exercising over 200 pounds was awful. So hard and I had no stamina. I am now 134 pounds and working on toning up and gaining muscle. 💪 This is my journey. I paid every dollar myself including travel costs. My husband was so hesitant. Not me. I researched and told him I AM DOING THIS. 😁 No regrets.

Congratulations, I am 19 months post op for RNY. I have lost 156 lbs since surgery. Best decision of my life. I am 51, soon to be 52 and I was diabetic, on 5 blood pressure pills a day and had sleep apnea. I have been overweight my whole life. I never told many people about my choice die to negative feedback. I did the surgery so I can he healthy and live longer and be more active. I will soon have my 1st grandchild and I look forward to being able to keep up with him. There are some complication, but for me they are worth it. Now my biggest problem is I have no padding on my butt and hurts to set and I am always cold, no fat to keep me warm so I layer up. Also, I had to have a EGD to open up a structure and I did develop a bad ulcer and had to have a revision to remove the ulcer and reconnect my small intestines back to my pouch. Good luck and many blessings. Do what's best for you. Love you lady

Keep your glucose levels down by cutting way back on processed carbs. When glucose levels go up pain goes up. It can be difficult. In this country we consume way more carbs than a normal human being would have consumed in years gone by. It is only in the past 150 to 200 that we have had the refrigeration needed to have all kinds of foods available at all times. It used to be that most people only had food that they could store from that year’s harvest and whatever meat they could obtain. That is how people survived for centuries. Today we have foods preserved so that they will last months on a shelf. It is not a normal diet for human beings. I was an insulin dependent diabetic until I went on the Keto diet. When I got rid of the processed carbohydrates I was able to get off insulin which helped me lose weight much faster on that diet. Insulin slows down the metabolism. Carbs are quickly processed in the body so you feel hungry again quickly. Carbs also cause your glucose level to shoot up quickly and, of course, insulin is sent into the bloodstream every time you eat. I have lost the weight I wanted to lose. I am off keto and have gone to a low carb diet. I will never go back to eating processed carbs. I have had to shut processed carbs out of my thinking. Increasing your B vitamins will help with your hair loss. You can do that by eating B rich foods of by using a food based supplement. Most supplements in this country are synthetic supplements (processed in China). Food based supplements are made from nutrients derived from real food instead of the synthetic stuff. They are more expensive but your body will assimilate those nutrients instead of excreting most it as the body does with synthetic supplements. I hope you continue to feel better and keep a healthy outlook about food. The carbs are poison to the body. You just have to begin to think like that. Those sweets increase pain levels no matter how much you weigh and that pain just increases with age. You would not deliberately cause yourself pain and yet that is what people are doing who just accept that they can eat everything they see on the store shelf. Some people do not gain so much weight but they will develop the other negative effects of wrong eating habits.

I had Bariatric surgery in August 2022 and it certainly has been an adjustment and an experience that is unimaginable. Everything that you said is absolutely correct. Some people will find that it is an easy way out but it’s actually hard because the one that I still struggle with is that even though, you’re feeling full physically. Emotionally, your still wanting to eat what your body is going to reject. It is hard to concentrate and feel like your food life is over. But the truth is that it takes mindfulness and structured discipline to get through it and reach your weight loss goal. The judgements that are received due to having WLS is that due to certain health factors. It is not optional for people like be that has health issues that effect my mobility. I actually lost thirty pounds on my own for knee surgery but then hit a plateau and wasn’t physically able to loose more. This was the best option for me and yes it does has its ups and downs but I was happy that this option was available because it has definitely changed my life for the better. Thanks for making this video and good to see you doing well.

Struggled with infertility and went thru years of fertility treatments which caused more gain. Then started peremenopause 3yrs ago and gained more weight. In addition to do what I always done I started medical weight loss which was low carb 900 calories a day and in 9 mos I only lost 27 lbs. i was so discouraging that I put in so much work and seen so little results. I was always thinking that was surgery is easy way out, but now I am in process of getting it done. Passed my psych and following insurance 6 mos program. Monday having my 4 mos appointment. Not all overweight people are fat because we negligent and overeat and bange on carbs and sweets. So of us, have genetics, hormone imbalance, low metabolism (mine tested at 9 out of 100). I learned a lot thru his process and ready to get a tool that can help me get to a healthy weight. I am a registered nurse practitioner & I applaud you for helping those who are contemplating bariatric surgery & those who have already undergone a procedure. You are spot on with your recommendations /tips. Health providers can give all the factual info clients need, but it’s the well informed client who has undergone the surgery that has deep insights into what clients may experience post op & in the months to years later. While every client will not experience what you have ( and you clearly stated that) it is always better to be informed of what can happen & be prepared. Congratulations! Great job so far! I had the duodenal switch surgery and, except for being able to take nsaids after my surgery, I could relate to everything you said. There is nothing easy about weight loss surgery and it's sad that there are people out there without the compassion and education to understand what a sacrifice it is, emotionally and financially. I actually just started this process today. Your number 1 thing is the exact reason I have waited so long, years, to do this. I have been afraid of not being able to eat how I want. However, I dont want to die just to eat what I want. I need to find a new "addiction". Maybe I'll make myself the "addiction " and take better care of me and do things for myself.

I already have negative people around me and people have already started distancing. I'm trying to be healthy and don't understand how they could turn something so positive into something negative or how they could "punish" you (distance) because you want to do what is best for you. My only regret is waiting so long to do the surgery because I was afraid of what ppl would say or think. And it only hurt myself in the end. You got this! And good luck!!

So, what does that teach you. Learn to close your mouth and mind your own business and not let just anybody in your private life. I’ve lived a very long time in the US and in the Western Hemisphere. The one most exasperating challenge was nosiness . American are the most nosy people on earth. And, they constantly force themselves on you. Talk randomly to strangers in the street, waiting in line in a restaurant. In my country only people with mental illness pbehave that way. Anyways, if your “friends” are no longer your friends after weight loss surgery, then, they were never your friends. Friendship doesn’t exist in your part of the world. Only interest based relations. How depressing. Happy to be back home.

I just started my first visits into getting the surgery and have my closest siblings against this desicion knowing this is my last hope for me to HELP with my health. I currently have diabetes, severe sleep apnea, high blood pressure, lower back pain (it hurts when i walk up to 2 blocks) which is embarassing for me. Im constantly tired, sleepy. I thought i would get positive support from my closest but i dont. So i have to learn to block the negative words and be my own support if i want this change. This video was inspiring and so are the comments of those going theough it. I still have voices trying to convince me not to only because i dont want to go through the pain. But in order to get to something better , you gotta go through the hard times to get to where you want to be. Or where yoi are destined to be.

Being somewhat new to your channel, I had no idea you had had WLS! You look AWESOME!!! I see NO sagging skin, and not only that, I would have thought you had never had a weight problem in your entire life! I am SOOO happy for you! I’m a “sister” in the weight loss drama, and I can relate to your list of 11 in that many translate to those of us who have considered but backed away from WLS as our method of choice to lose weight. About 18 months ago I was going through all the preliminary appointments for WLS, but the fact that I could never again have NSAIDS was one of the deciding factors for me against the surgery. Add to that the fact you have to drink all the protein shakes and lose weight beforehand. And the fact you must say goodbye forever to your favorite sweets. The more I thought about it, the more I knew I could not go through with it. I applaud those who do! God bless you! I know it’s not the easy way out! For me, I had been using WLS as the carrot on the string back there that I could always go back to if I really wanted to. And I realized that that carrot was holding me back from just kicking myself in the rear and doing it in my own. So 16 months ago I added the Lose It! app to my iPhone and got busy. My loss has been slow, but I found a lifestyle that works for me! And that’s what we ALL must do! I have lost almost 60 pounds using the app and much prayer. But I know it’s a lifestyle choice I can live with. Again, you look so wonderful! And I’m so happy for you that you have made the change this early in your life - you look young enough to be my daughter. And as young as you are, your skin will have minimal sagging! You go girl! Soooo happy for you!!! ❤️

They also sent us home to work after COVID. It’s been so difficult going through 24/7 pain and then the weight on top of everything else. The meds made me put on a lot of my weight. I started the process before but my Daughter got real sick while being pregnant with my Granddaughter. I had to step back and take care of my Family. She is 3 now and wants to do so much that I just can’t do between the pain and the weight. I am doing this for myself. I haven’t felt good about myself in so long I lost myself. Now is the time I find myself. Take care of the things I can and deal with the pain hopefully a lil better once the weight is manageable. Thank you for the great tips. Congratulations and Thank you for bringing us on your incredible journey. God Bless! 🙏🏻✨🦋

Thank you for this video! You are so honest and real. I truly appreciate your delivery of information! I am 7 months post-op and have lost 81 pounds. As much as I read about sagging skin, I too didn't think it would be like this. That said, I have taken up Zumba classes 3x/week and Aqua Zumba 2x/wk. I have more energy and walk my dogs 1.5miles/day as well. I have discovered a whole community of people who love to dance and have fun in Zumba, most are not fitness goddesses and are just regular folks like me. My food addiction has turned into an exercise addiction. I decided to treat myself to a "FitTrip" to Hawaii that is focused on daily fitness, swimming, hiking, and spa treatments! I love the energy I have and you're right, LESS PAIN! No more meds! I'm loving the new me, the new clothes, and my new attitude. I have encountered some negative nellies at work but I don't care. I am 61, much healthier without all the sugar, and have a new attitude! I do have moments of mourning because I broke up with my "boyfriend" Ronald (McDonald) and had to say good buy to my beloved Double Quarter Pounder and large fries for life, but it's all worth it. I will be a much healthier person in my retirement years! Yay! :)

Melissa!!! You really gave me some things to think about, and some things to share. Let me just say, this was my first introduction to your channel, and I already subscribed. There are lots of channels discussing bariatric surgery post op, but I haven’t had anyone address the post op pain the way you did. I knew I would be sore, my surgery will be a revision, I stupidly fell for the marketing of the LapBand 12 years ago, when I had been newly diagnosed with T2 diabetes. I was self pay, used care credit, had my initial evaluation for the band, and then 5 days later went thru the surgery, utilizing True Results. I actually thought they were doing me a favor. I had no idea. I was sent home with a paperback book written by the DR. That pioneered this surgery, and it was the best disguised sales manual I’ve ever read lol. I never learned about *head hunger* or that my new party trick would be vomiting on command. Annnnyway. I digress. Let me say that when you mentioned Fibromyalgia I almost cried. I developed this condition after the implantation of my Band. It was gradual, but now I cannot work like I’ve done since I was a kid. I love to work, I love to care for others. But I cannot accept a job and then not know when I’m going to have an intense flare. The daily body aches and fatigue are one thing, but when I’m writhing in pain, that is so intense that my teeth itch, how can I be an asset to my employer, or even myself? I hadn’t thought about the soreness I will feel FROM walking to dissipate the gas they will be using to expand my abdomen. Fortunately my surgery isn’t until 9/21/21 so I can start walking some each day to get my tolerance level up, as I’ve been in a bad flare for about 2 months. So thank you for including this fact in your video. Another thing I’d like to share is the stigma of getting bariatric surgery. You are 100% spot on. Even now, I had to really coach my husband on what he can, and cannot share with his family. I have ALWAYS been the fat girl in the room when we spend time with his family. Mom is a size 00, eldest sister is a solid size 6 and the other sister is just a regular 0. Even at my smallest, which was when he and I started dating 11 years ago, I was still a 10. I felt great about myself even when surrounded by the most judgmental people I’ve ever known. Don’t get me wrong, they’re really good at be phony, but the thing is, I hear how the speak about other people in general, so I’m confident in how they speak about me. I’ve never been able to get a relationship going with them or the other people in his family that my husband is very close to, and I’m certain I know why, it’s not that I care what other people think, but I know what I’m dealing with. But then there is a swing in the other direction, and it’s from the people that are LARGER then you. There is this “ownership” that they believe they have over the bariatric surgery genre. You probably think I’m crazy, but here it is, I wasn’t morbidly obese when I decided on the LapBand. I had an A1c of 13 and I was terrified of developing blindness, loosing limbs or digits, or developing heart disease, or kidney disease. Like the fear mongering we are experiencing now with the current health pandemic, my endocrinologist really let me have it. I was a massage therapist at the time, had always worked on my feet, and had always worked 10-12 hour days, did my own everything it takes to be a mom and run a house etc. so when I heard the LapBand was a CURE for diabetes, I jumped in with both feet. Even now you can search here on YT cure for diabetes, and the LapBand will be in the top few videos. But here is what I learned. You give your body a wonderful reprieve from the negative effects that obesity takes on your body. And you might even be able to stop treatment for a long time. BUT you are basically in remission. Meanwhile, your pancreas is still sick. So be smart and check your blood glucose regularly. If it is consistently running in normal ranges, try to make it a once a week routine to check it. This way you can be the chief of your health and stay ahead of any issues. Personally I find it incredibly weird that doctors don’t check out glucose level every time we walk in an office. They check out BP, temperature, listen to our lungs, look in our ears, and inside our mouths, but diabetes is a silent destroyer that the medical profession makes billions of dollars a year on, so no one at the American Diabetes Association wants you to know you are on a bad path, until you’ve passed all the exits that would steer you off of it. A glucometer is less than $20 at Walmart, and it comes with strips. Every household in American should have one, and every person should check their blood sugar regularly. Even their children. Elevated blood sugar can also alert you to infections and often is a symptom when you are ill. One last quick thing I’d like to share is about hair loss. So after our surgery, even thou we are not on a ketogenic diet, our body will go into ketosis. I watched about KZbinr share how she prevented hair loss. 1) she started taking a hair nail and skin vitamin, before her surgery. 2nd, every morning she drank a small amount of orange juice to prevent her from going into ketosis. (I will come back and share a link to her channel, as I can’t remember the exact title) she is more than a year out and she only experienced a very small amount of hair loss along her front edges of her hair line. She still takes her vitamins to prevent hair loss, and the best part, is they are a liquid. Melissa did an amazing job on this list, and I’m so glad I found her channel, as I am a woman over 50 and I feel I can relate so much more to her experiences. *Edit* ok here is a link to the youtuber that prevented her hair loss, I’m not sure if this exact video addressed it, but I think it did. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZTcoKmgdq-Aopo

Hi dear. Thank you for the link. I will check it out for sure. I'm in menopause now too so that doesn't help the hair situation. I have taken a hair supplement as far back as I can remember & it helps some but it's not a total help. And as far as the orange juice & ketosis, I have 3 Type 1 Diabetic children. So I kinda have a special understanding of all that too. Remember that for anyone except a Type 1 Diabetic, ketosis is a wonderful thing, it's when we burn the most fat. After surgery, you will lose weight rapidly & you don't want to disrupt that because, after all, that's why we go through it. Of course please do what you feel is right for you, but watching my body change so rapidly was worth the temporary hair loss. I'm so excited for you & the journey you're taking. And yes please take the extra walking steps now to build your muscles & body up. It really was one of the hardest things for me, as I was coming off of 6+ years of inactivity. Please let me know how things are going afterwards. And if you have any questions at all, I'm here anytime. You can also email me if you like. mmulder1026@gmail.com Warmest thought & prayers for a wonderful bright road ahead.

Hey Melissa - your "neighbor" to the east here. I started Keto 2.5 months ago and I am experiencing your #1 "wish you had known" = missing my best friend, food. I'm really not deprived (except for sugar) and eat enough to make me full without the nausea that you experience, but your comment about about "as any addict would experience" really hit home! That IS what I am experiencing. Mourning yes, but anger mostly! I just want my little snacks, my little feel-goods through the day and I am incredibly ticked off I can't. So ticked off that when it comes time for dinner, I don't even wanna make what I can eat, cuz it isn't what I want! You helped me see that I am throwing a tantrum like a toddler! (although all in my mind, not outwardly for other people) My whole identity was around food, known for my creations and catering. I don't know what to do without that outlet and way of giving. I have to, like you said, find another coping mechanism or creative outlet. I will, however, decry this one thing forever, tho: Nobody calls and asks if you want to meet or go out or come over for "nutrition". Food has become fun AND social - actually NOT become....it's been that way for thousands of years; people gathering around the table for a feast or celebration or even after funerals! I'm 58 years old and I don't know how, nor do I want to, look at food as just nutrition. It takes all the fun out of ...well, LIFE! I am not giving up or giving in and hopefully the tantrum/anger will subside. Thank you for your honesty and putting it all out there.

I am having a gastric sleeve in the fairly near future. I have been watching lots of videos and reading lots of literature, but your video was the most helpful thing I have seen so far. It addressed issues I’m concerned with, the biggest being mourning the loss of my favorite foods. I have, on three separate occasions, lost a substantial amount of weight, but those foods were still out there waiting for me. Each weight loss was followed by gaining back all of the weight loss and more. Thank you so much for making this video. I gained a tremendous feeling of security from it.

And I love the fact that this journey for me is not about vanity. I really need the help. I cannot do it alone. I do have God in my life, but I need to take these steps to make it happen and I’ve tried so many alternatives glutes, tricep, Otedis, Phetamine and they all make me sick and after menopause and some depression I just cannot get rid of this weight. And I’m sure I will make a few people jealous. Lol but I just want to be healthy for my 26-year-old son. I want to see him get married and I want to see grandchildren before I pass. I am 64 years old I have a lot of life in me, I’m young at heart, I still get around pretty darn good as far as my physical health goes but I’m heading into diabetes high blood pressure sleep and I have sleep apnea because I’m so heavy that my throat gets blocked. @@aubri2180 Hey, i can tell you about mine if you like. I had a gastric bypass on 27th June. I didn't had any complications so i left the hospital pretty quick, i ate about 12 days of liquid foods and now am eating the normal food my mother is cooking for me and my family, she changed the way of cooking ofc... no more butter and as much as possible fat/suger free food so i don't experience dumpings. I can eat a pretty good amount to be honest, more then i expected. I also went from 123kg before surgery to 110kg today. But since a couple of days i feel very bad after eating and i feel dizzy by standing up even when i didn't ate also i feel tired throughout the entire day, i will go to the docter soon to have a post op check up and i will talk about it. I want you to know that the beginning is painfull but know after 2-3 days you will feel SOO much better and much more painless! Excuse me if i made some english mistakes, i speak Dutch. I wish you the best for the surgery! Let me know how it went if you remember 😉

I’m soooo glad I came across your video! I have a friend who had bypass surgery about 5 months ago and is experiencing the hair loss. She had beautiful thick blonde hair and now it is so thin she usually wears a wide material headband and has her hair gently pulled back so as not to be so noticeable. She’s taking the Biotin and doing everything she’s supposed to do and doesn’t understand why it keeps coming out. All of the things you have spoken about have her in such a depressive way. She continues to work a stressful job, because like everyone else, you can barely survive on a single paycheck anymore and that of course adds to her mindset. I’m going to tell her about your video, how and why it came about and let her know that it’s a positive message if she would like to see it. I’m researching now some recipes that I may make or create that is acceptable and appropriate for people who have had the surgery. Some kind of treat that makes them feel like they are cheating but that’s enjoyable and actually is helping to keep them on track. Thank you for your consideration and help with the valuable information. 🙏❣️

You're looking AMAZING!! That cute little dimple on your cheek is getting cuter by the day. I'm feelin your pain when you talk about mourning the loss of food and it does get easier especially when you knock out carbs ie flour starch etc, the kind that turn into sugar. As well as sugar of course. I had to give it all up too about 7 months ago due to glutin and many other food sensitivities. I'd become a sugar addict and couldn't stop. It was all making me very sick, with a lot of pain, bloating etc. Anyway 7 months later and repeating the serenity prayer over and over I would say my cravings are almost all gone, but I feel like a human being again, no more pain or bloating, I've lost weight etc. You've got this Melissa, in a few more months it'll all be behind you. Very interesting hearing your journey. I know you are a very strong woman and oh so strong for doing it publicly. Being on keto I definitely resinated with mourning the loss of comfort food. On my journey I have learned how bad the sugars and carbs are for us. My new go to “candy” is frozen blueberries, blackberries with a little stevia sprinkled on them. When I have tried to cheat it makes me ill. The good thing is the longer I go on this way of living the less I crave the sweet. I am so proud of you Melissa! You were beautiful with the weight, but even more beautiful with the weight loss, and pain diminishing. I can look at your older videos and see the pain. The only thing I didn’t know about my gastric bypass is the amount of hair I lost during my weight loss journey and the change in your facial appearance. I find that everyone that had weight loss surgery changes how your face looks once you’ve achieved your weight loss goal. I find people age, the facial skin gets looser and your face kinda wrinkles up when you wink or make big facial expressions. I personally noticed that I now have what they call “Crow’s Feet “ , it’s where you notice wrinkles around your eyes

I’m so happy i found you!! I’m 8 months post op and lost about 80 pounds (still have more to go) but it has been quite the journey! I did it when i was 22 and the journey was very isolating at first, especially the point you brought up about the circle around you and people giving their opinions and calling it “the easy way out” when it has been nothing but easy😅 and i’ve found out the things you talked about slowly by myself and then thru therapy because i didn’t have much of a support system other than my best friend who understood what i was going through and god was it hard, so i wish i found you before but its ok I’m now slowly becoming happier with my new lifestyle. The mourning food part is the hardest and im so glad you brought that up, it truly felt like grief and is probably the hardest part when it comes to this journey which is why im happy you mentioned that its not only a physical aspect to this surgery but an emotional one too. I’m slowly now working on some body dysmorphia that happened to me recently when looking in the mirror and sometimes not recognizing myself because of how different i look, but it’s ok it’s a slow progress and I’ll be ok! i went thru your other videos and your progress is amazing and so inspiring and just kudus to you for being so brave and amazing on partaking this lifestyle journey and i wish you all the best!! ❤️❤️❤️
