I got my first Dane Charlie 20 some years ago, he was terrified of my coffee thermos I took to work every day. He would absolutely refuse to come in the kitchen even to eat if he saw it on the counter or even if I tried to hide it on top of the fridge. If he was with me in the morning when I was getting ready for work, as soon as he saw me reaching for the cupboard I kept it in he would freak out and go hide behind the couch. They are the silliest breed there is.

I love how expressive our Danes are. It’s like you’re talking to another person and not just a dog sometimes. Also if Danes and opposable thumbs… we’d be screwed. My family’s 5yro dane, Cookie, watches us use doors and I swear she looks like she’s trying to figure out how to do that too. We also had to clip our backyard gate shut because her and our dane that passed in March (RIP Luna) would open the latch with their snouts. I just love how smart they are even though it can be frustrating at times. Another thing that’s frustrating but pretty convenient is schedules. When we first adopted a dane (Luna), she taught us a lot but was never a handful. Luna liked to be fed at 7am for breakfast followed by a teeth cleaning treat, a snack at exactly noon, and 5pm for dinner. If we were late by a few minutes she would get up in your face and be sassy. She never growled or bit, she did on the other hand whine, stick her face in yours, as well as snap in your general direction if she didn’t have it her way. Cookie has been taught the same schedule and now our new rescue, a 5mo dane named Astro, is also following this routine. ALMOST FORGOT!!! IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE DANE OR DOG IN GENERAL YOUR DANE OR DANES WILL GET JEALOUS. If you pet one you MUST pet the other. If you don’t your dane/ other dane will push the dog you are giving attention to out of the way lol. Then again this could just be my family’s weird Danes. There is so much more I could say about my family’s experience with Danes, but it would take forever lol But yeah, everything you said was spot on. I was just adding some of my experience though. Anyone else notice similar things with their Danes?

The past year has been rough for me medically. First it was a broken ankle (broken in six places) that required two surgeries. In between the surgeries I developed a small bowel blockage that took four months in a hospital over an hour away from home. When I would come home our Danes were extremely loving when I got home. When I would have an episode all three of our Danes all stood around me until the episode ended. They were all very curious about my incisions and were very gentle around me. I had my hip replaced and they were just as curious and gentle as before. They truly are great dogs.

I love how passionate you are about Great Danes!!! I have 3 boys that I adore, they're my babies! 💙 I LOVE that you mentioned how owning a giant breed is a major responsibility..these are very powerful dogs and owners MUST put the time in to teach them to be well mannered. Be patient and learn how to communicate with your Great Danes remember these dogs are huge and massive but they are so very sensitive and their feelings get hurt easily so remember to be nice when training they don't take punishments well but yet you must be starting with them it's a very delicate balance. I just wanted to say your videos are great and I love that your positive in all your videos. You definitely are a Great dane lover and care about the breed. Thank you for educating new owners and sharing your experience.

I used to buy kids clothing and tailor them lol Also, have you ever noticed that Merlequins, Fawnequins and Harlequins (the spotted variations), tend to have rougher or coarser hair than one color coats? While not ALWAYS the rule, I noticed it fit far more often than not. Also THANK YOU for talking about how unhealthy or dangerous allowing a Dane to jump up and plant their forepaws on your shoulders could be. Bc of their possible health issues and their heredity, along with needing to be behaved and disciplined, IT'S important bc they are so big people don't reason how easy they could get hurt and bc of how big they are people don't realize we can't let them get out of control or uncontrollable. People always tried to get my Dane to jump up on their shoulders and I would have to tell them, please no. So e ignored me, some tried to lift them up there and some became rude and dismissive. Maybe you should do a video called "What all Great Dane Owners wished you understood before approaching their gentle beasts" orrr sumpin like that. Lol

One time I woke up in the night to drink a sip of water and I felt something hit my lip and there was a cockroach in my cup (I live in a subtropical climate, I'm actually a clean freak), so naturally I spit my water out and started screaming in sheer terror. My Dane looked at me like I'd gone mad, so I showed her the roach in my glass and then she just looked at me like "aww honey come here" and put her arm around me and held me. I swear sometimes she's more my mom than I am hers! I've had all different dog breeds all my life and I run a doggy daycare and I'm here to tell you, there is nothing, and I mean, nothing, like the love of a Dane. They are the best dogs ever if you take the time to train (I mean negotiate with) them. They are a lot of "work" and a massive responsibility but oh so worth it ❤️

My Lulu loves to lean on people. We live on the Big Island Hawaii and when I take her to the beach she attracts a lot of attention. When I tell people that she will lean on them if they would like, many people say yes! So much fun to watch people laugh as Lulu leans on them. Lulu learned to modulate her lean, so small women get a gentle lean, big guys get a big lean, and children just hang over her back.

Just wanted to drop in & check in on Baby #1. This will be the best part of your life. It's funny how one little soul can change everything in & around your universe. I don't know how it happens ~ But it does. Life just seems to run on auto-pilot. That is a blessing considering I never knew what I was doing. I took a poll before doing anything. That one tiny, curly blond haired, blue eyed baby girl terrified me. Everyone told me I would drop her someday ("happens to everyone"). So I sat in the floor with her, her toys and Cat-Cat. I figured she didn't have as far to fall... So enjoy her & Matt don't believe everything you hear. Friends & family mean well, but no one can see it all from your side. Trust in yourself. Trust that your baby can & does feel what you feel. When something is off mama be right there for both of you. God Bless All Of You & Enjoy.

I have a Bull Arab X with Great Dane mixed in and it's a a zing how many traits Hudson shares with Gus, ALWAYS wants to be around us, even when I let him out to toilet by him self for the first time tonight , we've had him 7 weeks he's 2.6 yr and it was 11 PM. I checked him and he saw me at the door so wandered off to finish which I'll have to pick up in the morning but then I went back in and 5 mind later when I checked he was standing near the path staring at the back door looking all like 'hey whats going on' then came trotting to the door when he saw me! Always checks where you are when outside, lays down for a while in grass then comes looking again if he hasn't seen you...

if I buy a great dane puppy online how can I tell if it's a scam?
@GreatDaneCare4 жыл бұрын
Short answer - I wouldn’t buy a puppy online. Speaking with and meeting the breeder is the best way to avoid getting scammed. Oh, and speak to references as well!

I agree 100% with @greatdanecare reply! I started researching online and noticed there were a few sites they had the same pup in the pictures with different names, ages, and prices. So sad people are so devious. Ended up finding a marvelous breeder w a recommendation from my local veterinarian. Our breeder is also a veterinarian! So happy with Blue Jeans Great Danes... our second Dane will be coming home around thanksgiving this year ❤️🐾

Of COURSE we are lap dogs! And whaaaaat is this about us being big?! NOPE, we're little bitty sweethearts that are the top velcro dog ever! 😁 (Hey Petsmart finally carries XXL boots, which I hafta use most of the winter here due to being a Service Dog in public and lots of salt that isn't animal friendly and then a little during the summer if it's warm enough to be an issue with the pavement, which isn't super often here) And our ears are vellllvety apparently! :) Back of the counter, what is THAT?! It's STILL in my reach (though I've been trained not to get it usually, unless I'm feeling REALLY ornery at home only, never even consider it in vest in public)! And omg, PLEASE don't let any dog act crazy but especially not us Danes! BAD bad bad! Just leaning our head on our people?! I wrap totally around my girl when I'm on the couch with her (and other places too)! Maybe include that we can be scared of little critters like little dogs and other small things that dogs our size apparently shouldn't be scared of...? Thanks for sharing!

I accidentally got a great Dane I say this because I wanted a dog for my young son to grow up with he's 3yrs. well I was looking and I was going to go to the shelter in friend of mine saw on Facebook that I was interested in a puppy and said one just showed up at my doorstep. She sent me a picture and I said I'll take him He has the coloring of a short hair German Shepherd and floppy floppy ears great Dane did not come into my head at all as to what he could be because he was a small puppy. But then he kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger now he is 8 or 9 months old and he stands about 5'4" when he's on his hind legs that he's looking me in the eye. But I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world.

Needless never allow a great dane puppy to sit on your lap, or sleep on your bed ... because when they are full grown, they still want to do that! Like my 'heavenly sent' huge anti-depressant! I still have to share my bed and lazy boy chair with him! 😉

You didn’t touch on one thing....... they are addicting..... we started out with just one. 10yrs ago. Today we have 4, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Terramycin worked wonders for my Dane's eye boogies! You can get it over the counter at chewy or Amazon. I just do it once in the morning at the recommendation of my breeder. Hers had to do with her eyelashes, so it might depend on what is causing the excessive boogies. Might be worth a chat with your vet or even the breeder you got her from, assuming you feel they're knowledgeable.

Our male Great Dane is 6 months old and has yet to drool?? We’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old. Will he just not be a drooler? Or is this because he’s still a puppy?? He doesn’t have as much “European” /mastiff in him as some, so he doesn’t have as floppy as a mouth as the “100% European” Danes. I’m ASSUMING that’s why, but of course I could be wrong….. He’s more long and lean like the wolfhound component of the Dane than crazy muscular like the mastiffs. His papers are AKC and he comes from “showable” parents, so he’s definitely a Great Dane - for lack of a better way to word it. He just doesn’t have as floppy a mouth as some of some Great Danes. Do ALL Great Danes fling drool about? If so, at what age does this usually start happening? I’m not looking forward to it. Lol I was all pleased about no shedding, then last week i noticed lots and lots of short hair on our sofa (which he claimed the day we brought him home). So I know things change/ either he got his winter coat or maybe he lost his puppy coat if there’s such a thing. But we went 5 months without seeing ANY dog hair around the house to suddenly seeing a great deal of little short hairs on the sofa last week.

I go through the same with my two Pitties, went through it years ago when it was two Boxers. I'm NOT surprised that if after my Pitties have lived their lives and gone to the Rainbow Bridge, I will sleep under the same conditions if hubby and I get a Dane.😘😘❤❤👍👍

Oh no! Lovely story but chocolate is toxic to doggos! I have to tell my Pitties no and chocolate is poison for puppers, every time they come up to me when I'm eating something with chocolate in it. They DO however, get a little bit of vanilla ice cream for a treat, since I feel bad about the chocolate issue.😘

Yes...your Dane will stay close and and lean on you like a Doberman. I call it their proximity alert system. Stranger (friendly) in the house, you might warn them of the coming....lean. lol.

Three big issues with Danes: If they go outside off of a step get some astro turf and make a landing area for their big mitts to it hit the ground or you will have a mud hole. Be prepared to clean their paws every time you bring them back in the house or your floors will look like a cow path and last but not least- have a towel hanging on every door knob in the house to wipe the slober off, you haven't lived until you clean smegma off of the walls and ceiling every time they decide to shake it off. Really its not a big deal once you get used to the routine....

When I had a Doberman, people would cross the street to avoid me. With a Great Dane, people cross the street to pat your dog and ask questions. Most people know that Danes are kind and not scary so they are interested in them. Too bad they don't realize the same is true for Dobermans. Danes also have a sense of humor, sometimes maddening, but are funny.
