The metro in Mexico City is one of the Best and very cheap (5 pesos). I had had the fortune to visit Valencia and the cost there was of 1 Euro and it was good, but not with the same standard (even I had a little fight with an spanish man who dare to ask me "what kind of metro have in your third world country?!" All I answered was: "one which transport daily twice the population of your city". Santa Fe is one of the most expensive places in CDMX, next time you should try to stay at la condesa ir un one of those hotels in Reforma (by the way, the Chapultepec Castle never served as a living place for a president, it was the palace of Maximilian of Habsburg, second emperor of Mexico) Greetings from Chihuahua!.

You just eat and stayed in really expensive places here 🤔 usually it's cheaper you should look for free walking tours in the catedral if you come back they are really cheap and they usually give a lot of tips for food and places.

Me Gusta CDMX.... Here is the real secret. I thought I loved the city, and then I started dating a woman from there. Being with a local gave me an even deeper appreciation for the city. Your series only scratched the surface of what it has to offer. Truly, and I mean this.... CDMX is one of the finest cities in the world. I could write a list of 1000 different things to do there, and it would still be too short.

I can confirm, I've lived here my whole life and I haven't visited every possible interesting location. There are a lot of hidden museums just in el centro histórico. I hope they visited bellas artes, it's such a beautiful building

I've been to CDMX few times and all the stories I heard were too exaggerated. I felt safe at all times. Don't let that spoil your trip there. You'll love CDMX.

I think people can freak out a lot (I'm not saying it because of them, also resisdents do that) because I live there, and I always leave my things in the table if I'm going to the bathroom or other stuff and they are safe, I lost my phone twice (my bad) and people who found it returned back, so yeah, Mexico city is not exempt of crime, robbery and other bad stuff, you also need to be careful and maybe observe where are you depending on the zone or timing, but it is not that bad.

It certainly depends on where you go... I’ve lived here all my life and there’s many areas where I definitely do not feel safe. It is a gorgeous city but it undoubtedly has a little bit of everything. You can find amazing, cheap accommodation... and also crappy and expensive places.

I know I only stayed in the more tourist-y areas, but I went to CDMX alone last year. I carried my camera around, didn't wear my backpack in front of me. I always had my phone in hand... and I never felt unsafe. I walked to the Palacio de Bellas Artes alone at night to see the Ballet Folklorico- then walked back to my hotel through the garden. I even went to get pulque at Pulquería Las Duelistas walking, and there was never an issue. I even walked around the park in Coyoacán at night after a mezcal tasting. No one ever bothered me, or made me feel uncomfortable.

Mariano Garcia Rodriguez Yes, who the hell recommends Santa Fe, for visiting. Stay there only if you have to attend meetings in one of the companies that have headquarters there. But there’s close to nothing to do if you don’t have a car. Local people may like it because it is new, but there aren’t many points of interest there.

I left CDMX in 1987, after living there for 17 years, so Santa Fé didn't exist. Now that I look at it, it's very modern, yes - y dicen "Santa Fé esto, Santa Fé el otro, Santa Fé lo máximo!" Pero no sé que le vén! 😒 I don't know what they see in it! It's a fancy business district!

The City proper only has 9 million people. The metro area (which includes parts of Hidalgo and the state of Mexico) is 20 million. I live in condessa and it’s honestly not that crowded.

Reforma looks like a mini Champs-Elysees. The whole Centro district is pretty spectacular. The area around the university was a fun part of town too. In NYC most people you pass on the street look angry. In Mexico City most people I passed on the street looked happy. That's what impressed me most about Mexico City. Great town to visit.

I think CDMX has become a full-on international tourist destination. Our "low-cost" carrier, JetBlue now has direct flights from NYC to Mexico City. Education is superb there, so most young people speak English. There is so much to do in CDMX, that one trip isn't enough. We will return as we didn't get to do several of their most popular attractions. Thanks for the video.

The new flights from NY may have to do more with business and national travellers. We live in Texas and this year Southwest Airlines discontinued service to Mexico City. It was a sad day in history for us. 😔 We have been to Mexico City twice for days at a time and still barely see American tourist. I still find so many people that don't see the city as a tourist destination from the US. And we also encountered plenty of places where people spoke little or no English. I think that really made us feel emersed in the culture and made us practice our limited Spanish skills. I would go there again and again without question. Me encanta Mexico City!

I’ve been to Mexico City various times because my dad works with the corporates of Ford Mexico and I absolutely love that city it’s honestly so fascinating and there is so many things to do and eat and see. It’s honestly one of my favorite destinations since New York.

6 of us from California visited Mexico city for one week. We had a fantastic time. After a little research we booked our hotel rooms at the Fiesta Inn Centro Historico. Nice clean large rooms for under $100 US. Centrally located we were able to visit Barrio de Chinos, the Zocalo, The Bella Artes, etc. We also learned how to drink Tequila, had B-B-Q goat meat, went to Xocomilco (floating gardens), Basilica de Guadalupe, and more. Tried black street tacos, saw the Zombie market, the amazing Flower market, my goodness so much to see. Hope to go back some day. Almost forgot, the 6 of us took an Uber from the airport to our hotel, a 25 minute drive for $5 US. Couldn't believe it. Only negative thing is watch your change, you could be give counterfeit 200 peso notes.

Specific recs: El rincón de la lechuza in Miguel Ángel de Quevedo has the best sopa de tortilla and Tacos Charlie in San Fernando has the best suadero. They're both in el Sur. You can take the metrobus there. Also, I love the metro, don't be afraid to use it. And I think this one's easier to figure out than in other cities I've been to.

You guys should consider making Mexico City your base for obvious reasons, many of the biggest content creators in the world live in CDMX, the city is so big and interesting that you could be there for a year and you wouldn’t run out of topics of your videos, you mentioned the internet speed, it’s relatively cheap and with some of the best food in the world. And by far the most interesting city anywhere in Mexico, as rising vloggers I think it would be a very solid choice to stay there for a while. Just my 2 cents. ;)

Yep, I’ve been in a bunch of cities throughout US, and yes, it’s not the most expensive, but it isn’t cheap either. I pay in average $100-$150 on a restaurant for 2-3.

If you go to chains and fancier restaurants it’s obviously going to be more expensive. You do what the locals do and eat at lesser known places, fondas and places where more home cooked meals are and it’s way ches without sacrificing quality. Mercados are a great place to find good food at affordable prices.

I do not agree with what you say about pickpockets. On streets and specifically in popular places such as Condesa, Roma and Polanco is difficult that this could happened to you. Most of pickpockets "work" on the subway and almost exclusively on rush hour and packed stations. In general you have to be smart in Mexico City to be safe and have a good time

The best park is definitely Bosque Chapultepec, it's comparable to Central Park, replete with castle, museums, audiorama, carousel and much more. Hey Tangerines, I was also surprised to see people wearing coats and jackets all over Mexico City. It really cools down in the evening, too. All in all it's such a great city with so much to do, and yes it's becoming a pretty big tourist destination.

Mexico city is located at 7,382 feet in altitude, so you can expect two weathers during the day. Quite cool early in the morning, quite hot in during midday, and can continue to be hot around 4 or 5 o'clock in the afternoon, and cool at night again. the warm weather starts from May to October and is also the raining season. It rains with passion everyday around 3pm. When it rains it tends to cool the environment quite a lot, and a sweater or a jacket is recommended.

I think whoever told you about pick pocketing was over exaggerating. I feel like you just need to be cautious like in any big city, but not to the point where you're thinking about it non-stop. I took the metro a lot while there. I was aware of my surroundings, but nothing happened, even when it was MORE than packed. You are so right; it's overwhelming with the amount of stuff there is to do.

I've been living in this city for 65 years and I wish it were only pickpocketing the worst of our worries. Seriously, since 2019 every time you leave home you don't know if your coming back. People rich or not are being kidnapped and even if the ransom is paid they're killed. Even the homeless people are being extorted by the criminal mobs. And this happens in all the country.☹

when I first landed in CDMX, my company put in in Sta Fe. It was 45 mins from anywhere and you there was not Metro nearby. But the restaurants and shops were nice. Mexico Metro is not too scary if you travel outside the rush hours

After spending the whole month of June in México City, here are my thoughts. First, the metro isn't crime central. I rode it every day and had zero problems, and I even wore my backpack on my back. I *did* do the swivel thing, AND I stood by the door so I could use it as a mirror to watch behind me - Just like I did when I lived in NYC. Five pesos for each ride, no matter how far - and the trains come at least every 5 minutes. LOTS of apps you can use to tell you how to use the metro too. You could have done a lot more if you'd taken the metro. Second, the mercados have good, affordable food. Fifty pesos for comida corrida - pasta or arroz + soup + main dish + unlimited beverage + tortillas. I even saw some places for 45 pesos. Definitely not enough for a dinner, but plenty for breakfast or lunch. Third, I found three weeks to be the ideal time to explore the Juárez neighborhood (I was frazzled by week 4), and I went to many museums. I did skip a few things, so I have something to do on a future trip :) But all-in-all, it took a solid three weeks to explore the basic tourist attractions of the Juárez neighborhood. Fourth, AirBnB saved my butt a ton of money. I found a great place in Juárez for the month at a price less than a week at an average hotel. I know you have Laska, so you'd have to find a pet friendly place, but in general this was an excellent option for spending an extended time in the city. Fifth, altitude + smog + half the people smoking = issues if you have breathing problems, something many of us *older* folk might need to consider. I'm in the process of posting, so not everything is there yet. Glad you had a good time in México City, I did too! It's definitely on my list of places to return to - maybe I'll stay in a different neighborhood each time!

I strongly recommend to anyone to take the touribus the first couple days in CDMX. $8US per day, hop on hop off. one main route with 4 branches. Do the main route and use their map to plan out the rest of your visit. Used the bus and metro system as well the first time I used it the person I asked for directions just used his metro card to pay for my trip, people were so friendly.

Seriously, since 2019 every time you leave home you don't know if your coming back. People rich or not are being kidnapped and even if the ransom is paid they're killed. pickpockets are usual in metro during PEAK hours, not so much during low hours. Since they use the fact that you CANNOT move during travel to steal. So yeah, agree with you. Also avoid bad areas like Tepito.

Exactly, just have common sense. We were in Guadalajara two years ago, my husband's cell phone was stolen because it was sticking out of his short's pocket where everyone could see it. We've taken the metro many times and never had any problems, just use common sense, like keeping wallets and backpacks in front with hands on them. It's actually exciting to use the metro and cheap, cheap, cheap!

@@davidostrowski679 I have seen quite a few of Tangerine Travels videos and don't really feel like they are scaremongering. In many videos they point out how comfortable and happy they feel in Mexico. If they have a fear of the metro or any other aspect of Mexico it is probably because of what others may have told them and that's why I wanted to make a comment about how it isn't any more dangerous than any other big city in the world. You just have to use common sense and be aware. I have enjoyed watching the many videos of young people (Tangerine Travels, Kenetic Kennens, Erin's Travels, Trish Adviser, Dan's New Travels, Way Away, True Mexico and Tao of David) discovering a country I have loved and visited regularly for decades and everyone has a unique perspective. It's a virtual cornucopia of experiences! U.S. citizens have the disadvantage of having had decades of fear pounded into their psyche about Mexico. There is no rationality behind the fear but most U.S. citizens don't learn that fact unless they have the desire to overcome that conditioning and see for themselves. I applaud any of these young U.S. citizens for having that desire and I am grateful they are sharing their experiences.

If you stay at expensive areas like Santa Fe, Polanco or Condesa, if you eat in fancy places and you only take Uber to get everywhere you will surely think the city is expensive but it is not. You are putting your own choices on the city and that is unfair. In Mexico City you can have a great meal (soup, rice and main course with agua fresca, beans, tortillas and dessert) for $65 pesos (3 US dollars), two gorditas for $30 pesos, a few tacos for $50 pesos and get anywhere paying $8 pesos for transportation.

Next time you go to Mexico City you HAVE to try: 1. Torta de chilaquiles called "tecolota" in the corner of Alfonso Reyes and Tamaulipas streets in Condesa. 2. Esquites at el Kiosco de Coyoacán (you can't miss a visit to Coyoacán neighborhood, which I don't know if you did this time). 3. Pozole in any of Casa de Toño franchise all over the city. 4. Quesadillas de huitlacoche and/or flor de calabaza in any market within the city (once in the market ask for recommendations). 5. Enchiladas suizas in any Sanborn's franchise (yes, Swiss enchiladas, which aren't actually Swiss. They're just called Swiss because the amount of cheese they have on top, which also makes them resemble the Alps... so they say). 6. Prehispanic cuisine in Restaurante Don Chon, six blocks south from el Zócalo. There you go!

I was there in May 2019. Such a cool place! My aunt "warned" me they snag cameras from you so I took my Samsung S10 which is almost three times the worth of my old Sony A6000. Nobody went near me in a menacing manner. I think she's overly cautious. I got some great photos. I bought a 512 gigabyte memory card in preparation. That'll hold plenty of 4K video! When I was there in 2016, I was such a backpacker. I took the metro a few times from the airport to Centro and to Coyacan to Casa Azul, the Frida museum. I actually took it with a full pack and everything. It was fine. Be completely aware and pay attention.

They have said in the past that they are not fans of museums, however I think this one is special because it shows the pre-hispanic cultures of Mexico and it’s quite interesting, you can learn a lot just by visiting, so yes I would also recommend it.

You have to try metro next time, it's a must experience in cdmx, there is no much to worry about, just avoid peak hours.. Just a curious-interesting fact. In cdmx only 20% of the people moves everyday by their own cars (In GDL is about 50-50), the 80% uses public transportation, It's much faster, cheaper and trouble free to move undeground than by the surface..

I've spent a bit of time in the areas of Mexico where English is often not spoke. I don't speak Spanish, but I know the most important phrases: 1. "Dos Cervezas, por favor" 2. "Banos?" To order food at a restaurant, I just wait until someone else orders something that looks good and then point at it... :)

I'm one of those old farts who figures that it's up to the rest of the world to learn English and if it's not written / said in English, it's not important... :) I was in Greece a few years back and none of the road signs were in English -- they were all in Greek letters... Even though I know the names for all the Greek letters, being able to pronounce the words is quite beyond me, so it was more of a symbol pattern matching endeavor trying to navigate... This was back before Android phones and Google Maps, so that made it even more interesting...

Enjoyed the vid! Went to CDMX about 4 yrs ago. Am so very glad I did. Stayed in a hotel for which my son paid. I’d have done Airbnb. It was far from Historico...the last bus stop at Rojo Gomez which intersects at the “Etiopia” Metro stop 7-8 km from hotel). Then took the metro the rest of the way. Do be prepared for sensory overload. It was at least another 20-30 min ride to Bella’s Artes. Did the metro exclusively. Felt safe. Jammed like a sardine most of the time? Yes. But it’s the journey. Did a food tour of the Historico district. Worth every centavo! Chapultepec and the Castillo...Paseo de la Reforma. After discovering I was had on the pre-paid TripAdvisor or Viator type tour...I went to Guadeloupe. Take your own TP. The one thing I’ve learned about Mexico DF is that if one moves just a grain of sand (so to speak-step outside one’s comfort zone), everything about (how one views) Mexico changes. And that is good. Am looking forward to returning.

Mexico City is a place where you should really take advantage of guidance from someone who has lived here if at all possible. There are hidden gems all over the place. It takes five years just to learn your way around a good chunk of the city. People live their whole lives here without seeing half of the city. You should take a mulligan in several months and go deeper. A resident can show you the places that might look scary on the outside but are simply amazing, like the Mercado Lagunilla(antiques).
