Difficult to express this emotionally but I went to Spurs with my dad's mate, Keith. He was an avid West Ham fan and I think this was his favourite ever match with the way we played that night. He worked with my dad in a bank. He nearly always said to me "you always need a drink to watch West Ham!" Sadly, he was in the grip of alcoholism. Such a kind man and he was like a second father to me. I was distraught at his passing in 2002. Even now I'm a bit tearful at writing this but I hope he's looking down and enjoyed the European trophy win against Fiorentina. RIP Keith. You were one of life's good guys. 😥

I always thought the centre back pairing of Rieper & Bilic was one of the best we've ever had. It a shame it didn't last long enough.

Excellent as normal. NUFC fan here. I was there for the Newcastle away match and I thought it was 36 shots. Like a tidal wave, it was.

We waited an absolute age for dumitrescu to get his permit and wadda you know he was shit ! It's the west ham way !

He wasnt that shit to be honest, had quite a few decent matches(southampton and man utd to name a few) but just couldnt find consistency. He also left for a ton of money fairly quickly in Mexico.

Probably been asked a lot, but whatever happened to Danny Williamson? I know he went to Everton but he faded in to obscurity since then. I would have thought that by now some WHU channel would have found him for an interview.

@@woodhammer8341 sorry not to reply sooner this question has been asked before but a long time ago. Danny went to Everton at the same time as Bilic but he didn’t want to leave it was part of the deal to bring Unsworth in. We spoke to Danny after he played against us in the August of 1997 and he was almost in tears. Soon after that he got injured and his career was more or less over. Very low profile since, no idea what happened to him.

@@westhamhistory Cheers mate, shame that he was shipped out the way he was, esp considering that Unsworth only stayed for one season.

Weird to see West Ham and Arsenal play each other in their home kits.

@@davidnesbit45 happened a few times at Upton Park in the 90s. Man Utd played in their red shirts too that year. Never seen us wear our home shirt at Highbury or old Trafford though
