​@@bioethan1 Syncatto is just him though right? Also i don't think he should work with other guitarists, what i meant is that he should focus on escaping the guitar shred/prog niche. His stuff is definitely "musical" but it just needs to be more flushed out and made into actual songs that non-guitar players can enjoy. That's basically the only way to get mainstream respect as a musician unless you're just going for tik tok fame which is short lived and honestly not very impactful. And also he would need to fix the fact that all his riffs sound kinda the same, not trying to hate or anything but i think collaborating with a few talented producers is what he needs to do. Basically, his riffs are like salt, on its own not very edible, but combined with other things it can get really good.

I must admit I'm a bit puzzled by the title. Click bait? Ego? I used to hear guitarist on your level and think, that's impossible I will never be able to play that. It's just impossible for me. And then question my worth as a guitar player. Shouldn't I just quit. I'll never be that good. There was a time when I would wood shed and just spend every day for weeks trying to sound and play like my favorite guitarist. At that time it was Al Di Meola. But in the end, there's just one Al Di Meola, one Holdsworth and one Shawn Lane. And yes one Charlie Robbins. So then who should I be. The answer is simple. Just be yourself. Open your ears to all musicians. At all levels. I was surprised to find how much you can learn from musicians that have not played as long as myself. The best thing any musician can do is to take something away from everyone you listen to and jam with. And in that way you become a one of a kind. Like Jeff Beck, Brian May, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour, Ritchie Blackmore, Frank Zappa...and on an on. What is the most important thing they all did? They were all open minded listeners.Taking something away from every experience with other guitarist from every background and from all levels of abilities to become themself, one of a kind guitarist as we know them today. One of my favorit guitarist for many years now is Scott Henderson. He is one of the few who have become an amalgamation of all that he has learned by listening and taking away something from that experience...and that one thing is the inspiration to better become himself.

I feel it shouldn't even be possible to slap on a guitar, and yet people do it. The strings aren't as heavy as the ones on a bass, so I was always under the impression that you ought to hit them *really* hard in just the right spot in order to make a sound, not to mention muting the rest of the strings. I mean, I'm not that good at slap but doing all that on bass is already fairly difficult.
