I usually try to defend plays. This one is indefensible. It's an extraordinarily dry board, if you flopped a big hand you're never ever going to just shove like that, since there's not a single turn card you're afraid of. When you're in a spot where you'd never make a massive overbet shove with a value hand, and you decide to massive overbet shove, everyone and their mothers will know you're bluffing. To make matters worse he doesn't even have any real backdoors aside from some very unlikely straights. If I'm in Tilly's shoes here I'm literally calling any 2nd pair or better. I believe this was likely tilt from running card dead for hours, which is something I think we've all experienced at least once, but still you gotta use your brain!!
@rsandoval92032 жыл бұрын
This really depends on the caliber of player as well though. I was playing this week at a local casino and preflop one player raised to $20 in a 1-3 game. Got 4 callers. Flop came J 7 4 rainbow. Checked around to the PFR. He c-bets $45, folds around to the guy to his right who jams all in for ~$250. PFR tanks for about a minute and folds. Guy proudly shows a set of jacks. I told him, there was so much more money in that pot. SMH.

Joel, calling any 2nd pair in this spot is a horrible mistake. You almost never see someone go all in there deep stacked with complete air. Also the 7x hands that should be in your range in this spot have bad kickers.
@aaron14742 жыл бұрын
Krish does these kind of odd plays quite often
@Joel-js2gk2 жыл бұрын
@Opperwezen you may be right. In hindsight I probably overexaggerated saying 2nd pair or better. Admittedly I play more tournaments than cash, in lower stakes tournaments you're right ppl will flop top pair no kicker and donk shove 10x pot. When I said in Tilly's spot I meant on HSP, and while there will be recs who play I'm assuming there are no microstakes donkeys putting 100k on the table lol. Nonetheless yea calling any 2nd pair here is bad unless you've played with the player before and seen them do this nonsense before. If you call to wide then others can do the reversal and shove with the nuts knowing you'd call. That being said AK is a slam dunk call here imo, so is KQ, KJ. In a $55 online MTT you can assume most opponents are idiots, I would think on HSP you have to give opponents the benefit of the doubt

Hand plays itself really. When you have suited connectors that's the exact kind of flop you're looking for. You can't just flop T high, no draw no club, and back down or you'll look weak. As Doug Polk would say all options are on the table here except this time you have no choice but to shove over the lady who bet in to 2 players in a multiway, 3bet pot on the textbook definition of a dry board. Only thing Krish could have done differently is going all in out of turn on the flop for maximum pressure.

Great to see her call such a huge bet lol. In a tournament that'd be a snap call for most of us (since she had a solid hand and it didn't even put her all-in) but when literally $100k is on the line immediately it's hard, since sometimes people do just get monster hands. I'm sure Phil Laak watched this one lol Edit to anyone who thinks he "obviously couldn't have a set because he'd just call": do you think literally everyone plays like Doug Polk? Krish Menon is not a poker pro. This show is basically wealthy people trying to pull one over on the pros. You *have* to expect weird plays sometimes, like overbetting to disguise a real hand as a bluff. If you assume they never have a set there then at some point you will lose all of your money because they had a set there.

I mean if Jennifer can call off AK here, as well as a set of 7’s and 2’s and stack him it makes his play terrible. Sure he wins the flop bet the times she has 10,10 etc and gets totally stacked the other times. The 3 better can also just have checked KK which makes this even worse still. Tilly 4bets her AK all the time, so we can clearly rule it out. And yes, sometimes JJ will have AK, KQ.
