Townsendia was a favorite of mine as a teen in New Mexico. There was a species where I lived that bloomed in early March (the earliest wildflower). Similar elevation to where you shot that video, but basaltic soils.

I camped in the San Rafael recently. It's hot as hell but it's an awesome ecosystem. I'm surprised Santoro didn't see any velvet ants because I saw them all over the place down there.

The Themidaceae is used as a decorative plant in vegas i think. There's something with similar seed pods I've seen at least.

April Kurtz ericaceae traits show up better in monotropa hypopitys. It’s flowers look like blueberry flowers.
