Rockwell hardness 62 or higher nickle steel, would be my bet. The frame on the bicycle I threw papers from in the early '60's was about that same weight and shape! It had brakes and it was scary enough!

This is no spam! But there is this avid collector in the Netherlands called Peter Gillis who owns 200+ (not kidding!!) vintage Harleys and Indians between 1910 and 1960s and has nearly every one of them pictured on his website. He also collects Wurlitzer jukeboxes and vintage slot machines. Worth checking out for everyone who also got oil leaks from watching this 😅Modern technology just takes the character out of everything. So this reminds me of the better days. Where man and machine still truly meant something. I'm glad you restored this beauty! Sounds very unique 🔥

In the 1960's in new Zealand, the Vintage car clubs magazine, Beaded Wheels, had a lot of motorcycle history published, especially the beach racing scene of the 1920's. it was big thing in those days and a lot of similar machines were imported just for racing. It's great to hear one actually running.

It is almost inconceivable that someone would literally risk life and limb to race what for its time had to be considered a death machine. I can almost feel, or rather imagine to feel the adrenaline rush that the pioneers of motorcycle racing must have felt on this magnificent machine.

Am waiting for a modern CDI to replace the point system.Though i dig my Bolt, puttering on my SL 70 brings me back to my first love and respect for motorcycles,and the feeling of TRUE FREEDOM..Everyone have a great weekend. Awesome to hear it running! Great job. It's crazy to image the racers driving these at 110 mph in the murderdromes. No brakes. No clutch. Wide open throttle. No crash gear. Total loss engine oil system dumping oil on the wood race track. Not even a protector over the drive chain. Those guys literally had balls of steel. It cost them their lives.
