How do families make an income if mom stays home as a homemaker & father prays & don’t work ? Where does the money for food & clothing come from. Hello. I am a native black female NY'r having grown up in the Bronx from the late 60's. I've lived in Queens, and I've worked in Manhattan on Park Ave. I currently live in NC. I have been around many Jewish people including working with them. So, I must say, I enjoyed this peek into a day in the life of a Hasidic Brooklyn family. I do wonder though. Could black journalists capture this story?

I don't get the whole wearing a wig for modesty thing. I mean, I get that they want to cover their hair, but how does it make any sense if you're just covering it with other hair that still looks as if it's not concealed? It's like if someone went around in public in a tan colored suit with pictures of private parts printed on it, that looks like a realistic naked body, but they claim they're not naked because, technically they're not. But they still look like they are, so it would still be immodest and inappropriate. So what's the point?

You're right. The wigs are supposed to look like wigs. It's a huge movement in the ultra-orthodox world right now to stop the wearing of "lacetop wigs", a certain kind of wig that looks very realistic. the more religious usually have wigs that look pretty wiggy. Because you're right: there's little point in wearing a wig if it doesn't look like a wig.
