In my FSM for my 1976, it calls for the 3 bearing set as shown in this video. But the illustration only addresses a spoke wheel hub. My bike has the 7 spoke cast mags, which upon disassembly only had 2 bearings, one pressed in on left side in bolt on hub, the right it was pressed into hub inside the brake drum. Is another bearing supposed to be in there with a drum brake set up??? There appears to be a recess in the shoe backing plate, but there was only another spacer when I took it apart??

i don't know how your wheels were made but if it has timken bearings than two is enought. with the stock smaller ball bearings you need three of them. tatro
@chrisrestifo70102 жыл бұрын
They were sealed balls bearings

I hate when the "Previous Mechanic" puts shit together wrong. Good thing you suspected an issue and looked it up in the manual. Great job Tatro.

will hubs from same size rear rim off different bike work for the ironhead? i have a softail rear wheel , trying to piece together an ironhead. thanks tatro
@TatroMachine3 жыл бұрын
only stock parts bolt on, everything else you have to make fit. a disc to drum conversion will require major modes to the complete bike. that would include wheel, brakes, brake foot controls and shifter. tatro

Do you stake,or peen, the locknut like the manual calls for? I wonder if its just as effective now to use blue loctite. Or should i just torque it on like you did and thats it?
@TatroMachine5 жыл бұрын
i would just loctite the nut. tatro

Thanks Tatro, Do I need to pump the hub full of grease after rebuilding the hub with new shielded bearing?
@TatroMachine7 жыл бұрын
only if you are a dumbass. makes for a big mess. just grease the bearings and no extra. tatro
@erichsteffen31747 жыл бұрын
The new bearings are shielded. How do you grease sheilded bearings? Thanks again Tatro!
@TatroMachine7 жыл бұрын
pull the shield off. use sealed bearings if they are ball type. grease timken bearings. tatro

Thank you! also how necessary is it for the balance weights on the rim? I dont have counter weights and im trying to ride!!
@TatroMachine7 жыл бұрын
that depends on how fast you ride and how far out of balance it is. just look at my videos and you can see the different ways i do balancing. tatro
