Not only is it easy, but it is also easy to figure out. I had 2 small ones like this that I forgot the combination to, and the idea popped into my head to try this as a last resort before throwing them out. I was surprised that was a real thing and actually worked, but now that I know, I'm not sure I want to use them to lock anything up anymore. Currently my 4-year-old plays with them.

Several decades ago, when I was a kid, I used to open lockers at school that had those padlocks, scramble the content of the locker ―everything that was on the left put it on the right side; and everything on the right on the left― so the owner would know someone open it, then close it back.

Some months ago I got a dirt cheap combination lock from China. Not for any high security purposes mind you. Anyway, literally on the second time I tried to change the combination, it got stuck in the open position. After a lot of fiddling, it went down into the locked state, but the combination wheels scrambled a bit and it no longer opened with any combination I had tried to set or had previously set. Before throwing it out I tried googling how to open a combination lock without the combination. Immediately I ran into this method. Sure enough, within a few minutes I had it open. I wonder if the video I watched back then was from LPL, and that's why KZbin started recommending me his content recently. P. S. Don't take this as me bashing Chinese goods, I order a lot of silly cheap stuff from there and most of it is good quality.

I saw a freezer “secured” by a three-digit combination lock. I could easily try two combinations per second, and at 1000 possible combinations it would take a maximum of 500 seconds (8 minutes and 20 seconds) to brute-force. Assuming a uniform distribution of actual lock combinations, it would take an average of 4 minutes and 10 seconds to bypass these. Adding just one more number would make these more secure against this brute force-style attack, raising the expected average time to 41 minutes and 40 seconds.

Harry, there looks to be an insert on the top of the lock between the shackle holes at 1:07 . That's not plastic, is it?

Yes, it’s rubber but there’s metal under it. I think it’s just to cut down on rattling.

You actually don't need to move the shackle back to one after changing the code, you can just pull it up directly at two. That's on a magnum series I tried.

Never tell LPL that it's improved. He will prove otherwise. I hope masterlock sees this and learns to test their locks before releasing it to public. Indeed the video shows that they never learn anything apart from changing the paint color. Oh no! The black color master iz alzo pickzed eazily byz zee LPL! All hail LPL!!😁

I unlocked an 875 for my boss who was setting the lock got a call and forgot the code lol! While i thought it was awesome being able to help him i think it's very sad a lock that ppl depend on to protect their property can be easily decoded by anyone that watches youtube. I have 0 lockpicking experience other than that

For the life of me I do not understand why lock companies don't hire you to help them design better locks🧐

Because to do so would essentially be an admission that their current locks are not fit for purpose?
@jrd33
@jrd33 4 жыл бұрын
Because a lock company's purpose isn't to design better locks. It is to make money. Easiest way to do that is to sell cheap products with high markup using advertising or restrictive practices ("we only sell Masterlocks") to gain market share. Sadly.
