I love these kind of problems. Makes you look like a genius when you call an hour after you get the product and tell customer it is fixed.

Thanks for sharing. Talking about easy fixes, I recently bought an HP 8594E 9kHz - 2.9Ghz spectrum analyzer for $375 said to not power up. Checked the Line In setting when I received it and found it set to 220V. Set to 110 and it works fine. Second piece of non-working equipment I have purchased where line voltage was wrong.

Awesome, thank you! It turned out we had exactly the same problem on the same model and I just fixed it with the help of your video. 😊👍 The piano works again, as it should.

This and your P85 piano fix were very useful as it fixed the exact same issue, thanks! Yamaha seem to have a common painpoint, they should really strengthen the solder near their power point / connection joint.

OMG thank you so much for your video! My P155 died on me at my gig today and I was ready to buy a new one... but it turned out I had failure at exactly the same spot. It always pays off to do a bit of research. I'm not too good at soldering so I'm ordering a replacement board (YA259) which you can get for $35 including shipping from Reverb.

Very nice! I’ve fixed a few pieces of electronic equipment that had bad solder joints. And I have no idea what I’m doing nor any formal training. It’s quite rewarding to fix something that’s broken.

Indeed. I remember one time pulling my hair out for about 6 hours trying to troubleshoot a bench multimeter that was getting low power in the power supply. It would create DC and step down but not enough voltage to boot the meter. After going through every possible component on the board I looked at the mains switch with a FLIR camera and it was warm. A quick spray with contact cleaner and it was fixed in seconds.

Thanks for the info, it gave me more confidence to tackle the job. I had a similar symptom on a friends P-155 and opened it up expecting to find a similar issue. After much prodding around the power connector with a multimeter and resoldering the connections I concluded the connector itself was the problem. I couldn't see why, it looked fine. Replaced it with a 2.5mm one as I couldn't buy a 3mm locally, likewise the plug on the power supply. All working fine now.

Very nice! I had exactly the same issue with my Yamaha P155, Now I have another issue: I'm unable to switch touch sensitivity (light-medium-hard switch) button, it's always in the medium position. What would you recommend? Thank you in advance

Thank you for this! I recently bought a used Yamaha PF500; I'm puzzled by speaker static. I am guessing a similar solder connection issue but not feeling confident about taking the cover off. Any thoughts or suggestions? I appreciate any pointers. (I've played standard pianos for decades, this is my first electric piano)

some years I think - wouldn't it be cool if I could switch out some piano wave files from a high quality kontakt piano set. do you think it's possible to drop into a file system? or is yamaha using a rom flashed onto board?

I've just discovered your channel and have watched several videos. Great stuff! However, please consider using a pointer similar to @3:00 whenever pointing to circuits, especially power supply circuits. Subscribed!

Hi, sir. I hope you can help me. I have a Yamaha P-155 as well and all of a sudden the C keyon the 2nd octave suddenly isn't sounding off. Is there a way I could fix this myself? I don't know where to look for the problem. Thank you.

Would have liked this much more if you had Shown us your technique of mask removal and soldering. We could have found this problem without a meter, simply by flexing the power cord a bit and looking for movement at soldered points, sound, heat, scent of arcing, etc.

My Yamaha P115 won't start. Once in a while it does if I press the button really hard and for a few seconds. Thinking about opening the piano and see if there's some dust to clean. Is it easy to do?

Some hot glue around fixed connector would add some extra sturdiness.
