At last I can do something easy...a full service! Start with all the oil changes, cannot take the bike out for a run to warm it up but the hot air gun works wonders on the final drive and gear box, the engine can take its time draining. Then quickly take out the spark plugs so I can replace them and do the valve clearances in between. It is at that point I hit the stuff of nightmares...watch and sob!

OMG !!!!.... it was all going so well, just like so many things in life, and then Nightmare 😳. Really feel for ya Norman, good luck mate. Look forward to seeing the results. Roj Incidentally, when I drained my 07 axle oil, at first sight it didn't look bad, until I left a large magnet under the oil tray .... 2 days later I had a small furry circle in the bottom. Fortunately, the oil was changed as part of its first service ( allegedly )so I'm glad I changed it again.

Morning Norman, Well, I've hardly slept too 🙄 I guess by now you have a Master Plan but for what it's worth here's my thoughts. Option 1 the in-situ gynaecological approach seems a step too far but worth look obviously. The problem with easi-out is my experience has been small one snap off and make matters worse as they're as hard as hell and make a bad problem worse still. If you're using them on thin sections they may well swell and lock up what you're trying to remove. Having said that, by all means get your bore scope down there and have a look. I guess if was tempted that way, I'd have to have the piston At TDC valves shut, for any poking around etc. Option 2 the heads gona have to come of I'm afraid. My approach would be a junior hacksaw thru the plug hole. Cut a couple of slots through the liner that's left and peel out the sleeve from the chamber side making sure you don't cut into the seal landing area. Clean it up, apply metal putty to thread and wind in a plug with a smear of grease or other release agent. Take it out, clean up and inspect. Job done. Option 2 a once the heads off, a couple of options, 1 clean it up wrap it in 2 or 3 layers of turkey foil . Open the kitchen door and windows and send the wife out shopping with your credit card. Put head in her oven at about 130-140c for an hour. I'd leave all the valves In to make sure the seats aren't disturbed. Seals at that temp should be OK. Remove Soak while Hot in paraffin. Alternatively simmer the head in pan of paraffin Outside on a low Barby or hotplate 😝 If threads end up being dodgey, stick a helicoil in it 👍 Option 3 I think Mr MototWorks may want to donate a Head F o C in Luie of the money you've spent and the advertising you've given them. Anyway, Best of Luck Roj

Just as I was thinking this is something I could try you hit a snag which makes me think dealer is the way to go. I've heard good things about the easy out extractors. Good luck with saving the head otherwise it's replacement head time.

Hi. Try a left- extractor. Screw it in with grease, so that no parts fall into the combustion chamber! After the hopefully successful operation crank the engine with the starter without candles to remove dirt. If this doesn´t work, the only way is to dismantle the zylinderhead... Wish you good luck. Please excuse my english. Greetings from Germany. Erich

I learnt from this.....don't put in new oil until last, I sort of followed the same process as you, change the oils before adjusting the valves, but when I got to the valves and taking off the cover to find the remains of the cam chain guide (R1200RT) . Now all that new oil I put in has to come out. I'm waiting for your next step, because all I do is learn and I'm sure to hit the same problem as you at some point and my project bike is a bigger rust bucket!

Have seen many stripped and broken bolts and nuts on bikes but never spark plug thread coming off. Very interesting that the enamal didn't crack and break. Must mean that the metal of the thread was already weak from corrosion? Waiting ion anticipation, lots of penetration oil?

So mr Norm. You always seem to have the necessary bits and pieces available to hand, ie new crush washers just lying about. If I did that job here in NZ, finding stuff like that quickly is just not going to happen. Is it ok to re-use minor parts such as washers and seals etc? Cheers Norm, Kev .
@normski3091
@normski3091 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, crush washers are one thing, like O rings, you should change. I do keep a little draw of those in stock but never as many as I want. Whenever I order any, because they are cheap, I usually get 3-4 at a time and drop them in my BMW draw. I do the same with stainless steel bolts. Installed tiny drawers on the wall that I filled with various 4mm - 10mm cap head Allen socket bolts. But of course there is always one that I need that is not there. Happened last night. I am having huge problem lifting the bike off the side stand and that is in my garage so what happens if I was on the road side with even a slight slope😱. I ordered a 100mm square x 30mm deep block of Nylon and milled it to shape to fit the Touratrek side stand extender someone had previously bought. Need 45mm x 5mm countersink stainless bolts to fix it. Ordered online last night, maybe get Tuesday. Minimum 10, only need 5 so again spare into a little draw🤗
