Although it sounds more like he says "bene jesuit" rather than "bene gesserit" to me... Or was this similarity in names deliberate on Herbert's part? The books never specify the pronunciation of names, so it could have been intended as a hard 'G' originally...
@red__guy5 жыл бұрын
Damn missed it, Small note: Herbert used Hebrew for that name. In Hebrew it called Bnot Gishrit - Daughters of Gishrit. Some people consider the Hebrew translation of dune to be ever better than the original due to better translation of middle eastern terms.

Loved the bit/poem about pumpkin spice not having pumpkin and things named for what they serve not what they are. It bugs me a lot of people don't know pumpkin spice isn't pumpkin flavor, it's what flavors pumpkin pie. "Pumpkin pie seasoning" would make more sense, but that wouldn't fit on all the products it's slapped on.

As an Australian I'd never heard of pumpkin spice until recently when it really blew up online, we don't have pumpkin spice flavoured anything here. I assumed it was a flavouring mix that was designed to make things taste like pumpkin pie (we also don't have pumpkin pie here), so there would logically be pumpkin in it. I tried making a pumpkin spice latte by adding a tablespoon of homemade pumpkin pie to a latte... It wasn't terrible but it was definitely weird and I wondered why I heard so many Americans talk about loving pumpkin spice latte. I finally looked up how to make pumpkin spice mix from ingredients available here, and realised "that's just a Christmas Spice Mix but under a different name" If you want something similar to a PSL in Australia you need to order a "dirty chai", which is a chai latte with coffee. I wish we had canned pumpkin puree though, that sounds super convenient for tons of recipes.
