What struck me amongst a lot of things was the smooth consistency of his action it was hard to tell if he was hitting hard or soft only the length of the delivery gave it away . George. As you already know, there is only one thing that has got hold of that cue, the grip, it must be right. That is not to say that everyone grips the cue the same but it certainly is one area that needs a lot of attention, and if a player comes to me with a problem it is one area that I will be examining.

Wow - I never heard timing explained so well. The feel of striking the white in the fingers and understanding the resistant force at work. I was hitting shots and sometimes letting the opposing force dominate 'through my hand' by gripping too loosely, or by gripping too tight at the point of impact, causing missed shots. That perfect balance and little amount of extra force you might use is so important to get the cue ball moving. Getting this just right on shots and striking the white properly is what it's all about.

@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 2 жыл бұрын
Gupp 3. This tends to happen when a player changes the grip slightly from the front of the grip to the back. This also happens when some players go past the chest in an effort to get through the ball. Ronnie O'Sullivan does this on some shots particularly when using power. Actually there is no need and for some players it can cause problems, just make sure that you have enough room between the grip hand and the chest ensuring adequate follow through and you can just concentrate on the front of the hand allowing the rear fingers to close around the cue naturally.

Thanks for this video. The importance of the grip can never be underestimated. But this is so difficult to put in practice while down at the table. Requires lots and lots of practice to perfect. I have been struggling with the grip quite a lot, when it works nicely I can develop good 50 odd breaks and think I am there so now I shall try to concentrate to improve and then suddenly everything goes haywire and I can't even put in a decent 30. then again I am able to do good and once again get lost in the dark alleys of technique. This gets repeated over and over again. But I admit I do not have enough time for solo practice and mostly try to figure things out during friendly matches and one should never do that. anyway, this is a great locking system if I must say, the fleshy web of the hand on top and third finger on the bottom ... nicely demonstrated... many thanks ! However, just one thing here, in this struggle I sometimes think I am gripping the cue a bit too tightly... any advice on what should be the grip pressure on cue and how to maintain that throughout the shot especially under pressure please ???
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
Q.M. Again grip pressure is an individual thing, what works for one players will not work for another, As a rule lighter is generally better than tighter, on a scale of 1 to 10 I would say 4 or 5 will give control without tension. It is quite natural for the pressure of the grip to increase slightly as you deliver the cue particularly on long or power shots, all you can do is be aware of your own technique and through practise try to relax if you feel there is unnecessary tightness.

thank you so much Mr. Stark ... it's such a great video to get a nice cue action . I figured out when I put too much pressure on the cue by the 3rd finger (ring finger) for delivery, it makes body movement and of course , non straight delivery in result of that . 😢 by reducing the pressure of the third finger (in the start of delivery) due to avoid any kind of body movement , I got huge amount of cue action . 😁 it's unbelievable . unfortunately , some days I lose that cue action and I get incapable of producing it and it makes me suffer so much ... . 🤬😫😥 now I can understand what do you mean when you say the grip is so important and critical . thank you again for this video

samx. Keep working at it, nothing worthwhile is easy to achieve. Remember, there is only one thing that has got hold of that cue and there is only one thing that delivers that cue, you have obviously got it nearly right, practise will hopefully perfect it.

most pros or coaches say, get the cue tip to behind cueball. the way i play is i think shaun murphy does that, eg: as i get down my cue tip is above the cueball and i have to pull the cue back to bring the cue tip back behind the white, then start my featuring. does that cause problem ? and make the cue offline?

Andy. Practising on grass is better than not practising at all but the big thing for me is the correct size balls. With a reduced size table the balls are sometimes smaller as well, the transition to a full size table is then a little difficult because of the balls as well as the greater distances.

First of all I would like to wish you a happy new year Barry. I have been trying to master the grip in my last few games & This method works perfect on a long or mid range shot, the problem I have now is trying to master the amount of grip you apply when playing a dink shot or small distance shot:( I find myself going back to my old style of just playing a similar shot to your 2nd shot, Where you don't grip at all and let the que do the work. If I try to apply this method I always hit the ball too hard. Just like to add that comment to this video as I feel it's important.

Hi Barry, just thought I'd ask, when I'm cueing, the cue come underneath my chest, I'm cueing in a straight line but I'm banging my knuckle on the cushions, and I see players like Selby that cue without the cue coming underneath the chest? So I tryed to chance my stance but I'm getting a lot of stress and tension on my straight leg? Maybe you could give me a bit of advice on the stance once again. Thank you
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
joe. Stress in any area is a bad thing, the fact that you are banging your knuckles on the cushion is unlikely to be caused solely by your stance, sounds as if you are straining to keep the cue parallel when it is sometimes very difficult, please put yourself on video and study it, it is unusual not to be able to spot something causing little problems like this.

First off, thank you for all the tips and videos Barry. Been watching your videos to try and really change my game. So I have a couple questions regarding the setup position. Is the cue suppose to touch your chest and chin the whole time during the feathering and also follow thru?. If so is it the outter chest part or inner chest part (I am a right eye left handed player)? Also for power shots the finish, is your hand suppose to touch your chest as well? Is it normal to have shoulder pain when practicing, I recently found out that I was only 8 inches away which I changed to 10.5 inches but this seems to cause more strain on my shoulders and lower back. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Brian. During the set up and feathering its a good idea to keep the chest and chin on the cue this will help with stability with the body and consistent cueing. When you deliver the cue the cue should still be in contact with the chest but trying to keep the chin on the cue tends to create tension, fair enough if you can do it but most people drop the cue a little at times, the important thing is to keep the head still. On power shots the hand will reach the chest, some players will go past the chest by relaxing the front of the grip, Ronnie does this on some shots also Steven Lee when he was on the circuit. No its not normal to have shoulder pain and if there is no physical problem perhaps the 10.5 inches does not suite you, 8 inches does seem awfully close though and perhaps some adjustment may help, with that in mind try splitting the difference say 9 inches. Please don't forget though that the distance between the grip hand and the chest will transfer to the front and become the follow through, this should be around 6 inches an firm shots and can be influenced by. A/ Where you grip the cue. B/ Where you place the bridge hand. C/ Whether you play with a straight or bent bridge arm, and of course the degree of bend in that arm.
@brianla3288
@brianla3288 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your response Barry. I will try to adjust the cue to 9.5 inches to see if that helps keeping an additional 6inches for the follow thru. Will also be putting in effort to strengthen my shoulders and get heathier and then maybe I can get to the 10.5 inches in the future. Once again thank you and all the people involved for all your Videos. Been watching all of it since video 1-82 so far and look forward to watching the rest and become a better player. Goal would be to become an amateur player would be nice. Wishing you all the best and hopefully can meet you sometime in time in the future! Stay safe and let’s hope this virus is over soon...

Hi Mr. Stark. Thank you so much for the video and I have learnt a lot from it. I observed that when you do the backswing (4:09), the name plate of the cue faces upward. But after you pot the ball (4:10), the name plate faces to a different angle. That means the cue has rotated a little bit clockwise from unfurling fingers to closing the fingers. May I ask if this should be prevented or it is actually a natural sign? Also, will this slight rotation of the cue create unwanted side? If so, how can it be prevented? Thank you!
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
Joseph. Whilst the slight rotation is not intentional it will not affect the shot as long as it is only slight, the real object being to cue in a straight line. You are right it does happen as a result of the work the fingers are doing but in my opinion any attempt to curtail the rotation invariably leads to too full a grip.

Hi Barry, really enjoying your videos. I have a question for you. I did what you said about using my phone for slo mo analysis on the straight blue for errors. Interestingly myself and my dad made the same mistake whilst cuing through the ball. Of cuing around the chest/ belly and putting left hand side on the cue ball. How do we correct this? Keep it tighter to the chest or keep the cue away from the belly?
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
Conor. If you have the right distance between the body and the grip by the time the hand reaches the body you will have hit the cue ball and the ball will be gone, so it will not affect the shot. Are you sure that that is the reason for the left hand side, it may be that you are cueing up to hit the ball with side or that you are manipulating your wrist slightly as you deliver the cue. Check these things out before you make big alterations.
@conormcgrady7494
@conormcgrady7494 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, Ive taken on board what you've said, and found the hiding a flaw unintentionally video very useful. Keeping that cue flowing on its own away from the body slightly seems to have helped, tell me if this is wrong... rather than cuing around that chest. Ive also recorded myself cuing on that baulk line, I've made some adjustments to my technique. One last thing to ask, I'm a very tall guy 6ft 8. I notice how the pros cue with the right hand on the fleshe part of the hand, Since I'm tall my grip is very loose to get that cue down more parallel to the table. I've tried bending both knees like kyren but I find that I'm off balance. So I've adapted the grip to get that cue lower, which feels ok I'm potting reasonably well. I would value your opinion on this. So I'm basically cuing with the right thumb and fingers only. Many thanks and best wishes Conor.@@BarryStarkSnookerCoach

Hi Barry, do u recommend players to play shot with side spin just for easier aiming and potting ? Or do u think it is not a good way to play snooker ? Coz in my game, I put side spin on some of my shots (Mostly thin cut, some to the middle pocket, also on the black ball and half ball yellow and green) because I think I can see the angle better and the shot becomes easier. Is it common or should I fix it ? Thanks Barry .
@supportGEM
@supportGEM 5 жыл бұрын
Also, it comes to a point where I have a higher pot success rate playing certain shots with side spin. So it is not a psychological thing, I actually play certain shots better with side spin. I am kinda confused as many people including you said that playing shots with side spin make the pot slightly more difficult and we should avoid it.
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
needmore. I actually said that a lot of players use side unnecessarily and make the game more difficult than it needs to be. I also said that if I am cutting a ball to the left I prefer to use a small amount of right hand side, Left hand side if I am cutting a ball to the right. This is not a fault, it is merely a preference and a lot of top players including Ronnie adopt this method. It has become a fault for some players when they have developed a cueing problem and try to correct it by using side, it also becomes a problem when players use a lot of side, again in an effort to correct a cueing flaw or a sighting issue. If you are happy with what you are doing then leave alone.

chris. Most players at some stage of their career have played on a smaller table, certainly you can work on the basics and also develop a few shots but its the distances involved by playing on a full size table that give players problems. Also the balls tend to be smaller on a smaller table and the two elements combined come as quite a shock when the full size table presents itself.

When I start practicing, I will mostly do the lineup. It's a great exercise to learn cue ball control but I think it's still to hard for me so my question is, what exercises could a starting player do? Mathias. The line up can be difficult for beginners, may I suggest that you use an open table. By that I mean place the colours on the spots and the reds all over but in potable positions. You could even ignore the colours altogether and just pot reds, the real idea is to learn about controlling the cue ball. Pot a ball, note where the cue ball goes, replace the balls and try to alter the cue balls position by how you strike it, top and stun are the best to start with, side can come later.

Sir, I need to ask you a question. I have a snooker coach guiding me at the moment. My grip made me cue off the line, he helped me right, but I want a second opinion. I hold the cue with my pointing finger and thumb, the rest of the fingers lead into the shot, but what he showed me was when the cue goes backwards, the backswing, there is pressure in my hand, and the pressure releases when the cue goes forward. I cue more consistent and straight now, but what is your opinion on this?

Interesting video on grip this. The part where you say the hand closes as the resistance starts. I think im getting this right...so you need to be firmer at the point of strike to ensure the cue accelerates through the cueball..am I right wiith this barry?
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach

Steve. Everyone is slightly different as long as the basics are correct just keep working at it. If you watch David Gilbert in the world championships you will notice that his grip is firm at the front of the hand and during the back swing but on follow through this part of the hand relaxes, whatever works for the individual is correct.

Am I right in interpreting this as, you start the movement of the cue going forwards by applying pressure to the cue with your middle, ring and pinkie fingers? This will naturally pull your arm forward given the thunb-index ring stays intact
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach

Hi Barry, I may be wrong but in previous videos about the grip I thought you had emphasised the importance of the ring formed by the thumb & index finger and the un-furling of the last three fingers?
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
Andrew. I did, these are important elements of the grip, the ring is a constant, the unfurling of the fingers is also important but the degree of it is an individual thing, some players will unfurl a lot, others not so much. Just remember however that the rear fingers never lose contact with the cue, they have a vital role to play.

Lovely job Berry! Could you explain what is POWER? Is it all about jabbing the cue while delivering it, or to have a long backswing and smooth deliver.
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 3 жыл бұрын
PARAGON. Power just means hitting the ball hard, cue power is different, it is about delivering the cue with accuracy and under control. If you jab the cue you may be able to hit the ball hard but you will not generate cue power or accuracy. A longer backswing helps to generate the cue power under control with a smooth delivery and the necessary accuracy.

Hey Barry, do you mind talking a little bit more about the role of thumb in delivering the cue? Because I find that sometimes if my thumb is in the right place, my shot is a lot more consistent, that is when I play shots with power it will be more steady. But I seem to struggle to find the right place for my thumb. Thanks a lot!
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
Kobe. This is a personal thing and what works for the individual. Start by allowing the thumb simply to hang down vertically but don't worry too much if it doesn't as long as the front of the hand remains as a constant, certainly on the back swing and the first part of the cue delivery. If you are a player that goes past the chest on occasions it is often beneficial to relax this area of the grip as you do so, in the mould of Stephen Lee who had a wonderful cue action.
@tomross350
@tomross350 5 жыл бұрын
Also think you are on to a very important question there as its position could change if you are not aware of it. I would imagine you want a bit of pressure from both the thumb and the forefinger to some extent to help guide the cue straight . I've played with it both cocked and straight and I'm honestly not sure either. Pretty sure if im remembering Steve Davis without looking he slightly cocks the thumb .. When i say cocked i mean the upper part is hanging down but then the tip is pulled in . Feels to me that "locks" it in place.

Hi coach i heard ronnie talk about grip pressure when you play the shot. What it's mean?
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
Monkeyboy. Grip pressure is such an individual thing but a lighter grip is generally better than a tight one, but that does not mean that it cannot be too loose, of course it can. It is inevitable that the grip will tighten a little as the shot is played especially on power shots and some players will squeeze the cue forward during the transition phase of taking the cue back and then forward. Nobody hits the ball quite like Ronnie, his final back swing is fairly constant in terms of length, the speed of the cue during delivery is also fairly constant and the control of the cue ball is done mainly by the pressure he applies through the grip.

@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 3 жыл бұрын
PARAGON. Lets try to keep this simple. Work on two fixed points, the bridge and the chest. Check that there is sufficient room between the grip hand and the chest to establish the correct amount of follow through. ( see my early videos on this) Now play a shot and ask yourself this question, "Is my cue still on the bridge hand? and is it still touching my chest?" If it is you have a good chance of delivering the cue in a straight line and other things just might need some fine tuning. You are probably grabbing hold of the cue either because of tension or because you are trying to correct a flaw in your cueing. If you concentrate on the answer to your first question you should be able to relax your grip more during the cue delivery.

Evening Barry, I've been watching your vids for a looonggg time now, and I absolutely admire your wisdom and personality. I have two questions for you, Do you think Ronnie was right about "it's all cue action". If it is, do you think his style of middle finger, thumb down, rest all fingers including index finger loose, and a wrist forward cue gripping is good? Also, what do you think about his up and down motion, kind of circular motion while his cueing? I wonder the significance of it, does he inhale exhale pre shot and post shot, something like that, or it's just ROS.
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach Жыл бұрын
Grausher. Ronnie is without doubt the best player in the world and I believe like Ronnie the cue action is the first priority in the making of a good player. That is not the end of it though, shot selection is a large part of it as well, so is experience and mental attitude. Some players cannot handle the pressure despite a great cue action, Judd Trump has a cue action that you should not try to copy but he believes in it and as a result he is mentally strong, his cueing flaw is repetitive so it works. Every player is different, there are no two players exactly the same, find what works for you and stick with it, you may need a little help from a decent coach but what is right for Ronnie or any other top player may not be right for you. Ronnie's up and down motion is not deliberate it is something that has developed into his game over the years, on some shots it is impossible to keep the cue parallel because of the height of the cushions. Likewise, notice the difference between his present cue action and when he first came on the scene, his cue action is longer enabling him to stroke the ball more. Its a fact the better you hit the ball the more slight errors you get away with.

Thank you for your explanation about the grip, it helps me for the improvement. Once thing I would like to get your view TWO different views I can realize from your video. May I know which is more likely to be the correct one? 1. After the last feathering, the whole process of delivery, I close my hand just before the tip contacting the white, and then I accelerate my cue by using my forearm and my hand until reaching maximum speed/my chest. 2. After the last feathering, the whole process of delivery, I keep closing my hand until reaching the maximum speed/my chest. The whole delivery should keep accelerate the cue. If necessary, I swing my wrist when I feel a resistance between my tip and the white to change the weight of shot. The hand during the feathering and delivery from above TWO views are nice and loose. Armin. Always difficult to rectify but not impossible, place your tip to the cue ball and look down upon it, this is the true picture, looking along the cue to the cue ball is the false picture and you must try to balance the false picture with the true picture. This may mean playing with what looks like a little left hand side to you for a while. Don't forget that the eyes only play a part in the transportation of the image to the brain for interpretation and that interpretation can be altered by correct practise.

The one thing wrong with the grip, is its name - grip. So many players (including myself) hold the cue too tight, especially in pressure situations. If you have a decent cue it WILL do its work if you let it, as long as you time the shot correctly.

dear Barry, I've watched nearly all of your videos and there's a question that's really begun to bother me: How important is it that the shoulder of your grip hand is directly above the cue? I have a really hard time getting that shoulder in line and am WAY more comfortable not doing that, but a lot of professionals do it. I think I can deliver the cue straight without that being the case, but I worry about limiting myself in the future if I don't start off "the proper way". Any advice would be much appreciated, greetings from Switzerland
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach 5 жыл бұрын
Uriel. The only thing that matters is that you cue straight, how you achieve that is an individual thing. Having said that it depends what is causing the arm not to be vertical, is it an injury or merely lack of flexibility in the shoulder girdle, we humans tend to do things that are comfortable for us but that does not mean it is correct. I would first try to determine the cause, sometimes simple exercises can put that right. If it is just a comfort thing it may be worth working at it. But remember that Ray Reardon became world champion six times and his arm was not in line.

@@BarryStarkSnookerCoach Thank you for your reply, Barry. Hi Barry, Off topic but I have noticed when watching snooker this year that there are significantly fewer kicks occurring and the tables are much cleaner with less chalk residue. Is this because of players using TAOM chalk. I noticed in Luca Brecel's masters v Mark Allen that he got a few kicks and his screw shots left some chalk on the table so I am guessing that he doesn't use TAOM chalk. Could you perhaps do a video on chalk and its importance..

gamerboy. I will try to run through the grip verbally for you. Make a circle with your forefinger and thumb around the cue, that should remain constant and firm to start with. (You will learn to relax it a little later) The other fingers hold the cue in a relaxed manner, as you take the cue back with the first finger you should feel some pressure in the 'V' (the flesh between the thumb and first finger) While this is happening the remaining fingers unfurl but always remain in contact with the cue. Particularly feel the third finger on the cue which will become an almost imperceivable trigger as the hand closes and the cue is driven forward. Please remember that if this is new to you it will take time to make it work, as with any change you have to go backwards in the hope that you will advance later.

If you cannot screw the ball back it is generally because you are not hitting the ball where you think you are, possibly raising up as you hit the shot. Start with the balls close together, don't try to pot the ball just aim for a cushion concentrating on getting the cue ball to come back. Gradually widen the gap at then you can start trying to pot the ball as well, in short don't be too ambitious initially.

Hoping Barry to respond. When I close the grip, I can do this either to generate the forward motion of the arm or I can do it as a result of the arm moving forward. In the first scenario, I would start to close my grip, which generates a forward motion on the cue, which my cue arm then completes. In the 2nd scenario, my arm is going forward, and the closing of the grip is simply the result of the cue being positioned differently. I hope you understood the explanation. Which is supposed to happen? 🙋‍♂️

Werner. The simple answer to this is what works for you as an individual. Some players will tend to squeeze the cue to initiate the forward momentum, others will just feel the rear fingers allowing them to close as a result of the forward momentum of the cue. Experiment to find what works for you.

Reza. Without seeing you play this is very difficult, the purpose of unfurling the fingers (not unfeel) is to allow the cue a better chance of remaining on a parallel plane, I can only assume that you are not doing this correctly. Take the cue back with the first finger, feel the cue in the 'V' and unfurl the rear fingers keeping the cue parallel with the table. Put yourself on video to see what you are doing wrong, have another look at my video which covers where and how to hold the cue, start with just hitting the white around the table so that your concentration is on the salient points. From there you can start to hit the object ball but keep it simple initially until you have grasped the fundamentals. From what you are telling me you are allowing the cue to rise and fall as you play a shot, start with a relatively short cue action progressively lengthening it as you grasp the basics of keeping it level. Good luck.

How do I stop a twist on the back swing.
@gdasailor4634
@gdasailor4634 5 жыл бұрын
Let your hand fall naturally from the elbow; relax your wrist; the cue should be directly below your elbow with your hand neither bent in nor out. Your forearm should swing like a pendulum. Open the 3rd finger a bit on the back swing and the 4th finger opens more. Cue should stay plumb below your elbow. Some people bend the wrist backwards at the end of the shot (as if pushing the tip downwards which assures that you do not lift the cue off of your rest hand) and drop the elbow only enough to keep the cue level so that you do not miscue low and possibly tear the cloth (do not exaggerate or you will raise the tip striking the cue ball higher than intended). Get someone to view you from behind or set up a camera shot if the problem persists.

Stuart. GDA is giving some sound advice, I would only add that sometimes concentrating on the 'V' at the front of the hand and noticing where the cue is in contact with it can answer a lot of questions. Do you feel the cue in the 'V; towards the thumb or towards the fore finger or indeed centrally, these can be important points.

Timing with just using the index finger and thumb is about swinging your wrist forward. I personally have difficulties gripping the shot, as it messes up the direction of the cue while you grip, it can also cause your tip to dip, as you grip it into your hand. Taking the wrist back with only the index finger and thumb holding the cue, allows you to time your wrist to swing into the cue ball and get all the acceleration you get by gripping, without it changing the direction of the cue. I imagine both are acceptable methods, but I wanted you to understand that the index and thumb only method still gets all the force as gripping does, if not more. Your method uses the grip to accelerate the cue forward, the index finger only method, allows the wrist to freely swing back and then forward to get that acceleration. American pool players are mostly taught the wrist swinging method, which is use also used in the Philippines.

John. If it works for you then that is the right method for you, what I would ask you to remember though is that generally speaking pool players do not need the accuracy that a snooker player needs.

@@BarryStarkSnookerCoach, I was mostly pointing out that the lack of draw, was because you weren't doing the full technique, which includes hitting with the wrist. As far as accuracy goes, it appears to be a lot more accurate for me. Gripping the cue can jar the cue off angle. It's definitely a region difference though. Europeans tend to grip, the rest of the world tends to let the wrist fly, but then again, we aren't as much into snooker.

I live in America..... recently moved to a town where there is a snooker table......what length and weight snooker cue do you suggest and where might I obtain one.....I am an oldtime American poolplayer .....played tour events in 1970's and 1980's ..... I quit pool 25 years ago.....maybe play snooker some now....

Jay Thomas Reset that’s an almost impossible question to answer! It’s all personal preference. Somewhere in the 18-20oz range is a good weight for snooker. Length around 57-58’’ for an average sized person, though if you are really small or tall then adjust accordingly. Tip size is usually 9mm-10mm, though if you’ve dropped down from American pool you might prefer something closer to 10mm. I’d pick an ash cue over maple too, as I find the grain easier to sight the ball with....but this is again all preference. Hope this helps 👍🏻

@@mrb018538 thank you..... shocked concerning length....I played with 57 1/4 ..... 12.5 mm tip ..... I will check with Pechauer about a 10 mm shaft..... thank you for your input..... and also for telling people the truth about the grip....., I get so annoyed by "teachers" telling people there's only one grip, or stroke, etc

Jay Thomas Reset 12mm tip is far too big for snooker. Smaller ball...you won’t get any control at all. I play with 9.5mm, which is good for English 8 ball and snooker.

@@mrb018538 yes....understood..... I was saying that I played American 9ball and one-pocket with the bigger heavier balls using the 12.5 mm tip .....I understand your suggestion of 9mm or so for the lighter smaller snooker balls.....BTW, over here they don't play a full rack of reds....most I ran is 73 with the short rack..... but I need to get correct equipment if I start playing again.... lots of skid,squirt,deflection with current cue

I have to grip the cue like it's nearly going to be dropped. Could be because my fibromyalgia mean's the slightest bit of tension in my hand transfers to my arm. Have tried so hard to do it like this but it's just not meant to be for me. I can still play well sometimes but fear my highest break will never be bettered.

shahzadi. Not sure about the reason without seeing you play but if you cue along the baulk line without resting the cue on your chest you will train the muscles to deliver the cue in a straight line and that is what matters.
