These speakers suffered from the same problems as similar Rokit 6 speakers in video #105: conductive and corrosive glue and failing electrolytic capacitors. The glue was removed, all electrolytic caps were replaced. The speakers are back to life.

Have you noticed that the glue only becomes conductive at the base of bulging capacitors. I think that the glue reacts with the gases vented from the rubber base seals of the capacitors. It's a shame that KRK chose to use such poor quality capacitors as the speakers as a whole are quite good. Great vid as always, keep up the good work.

​@@feedback-loop I repaired my KRKs with the same problem however; I noticed that the glue on the PCB away from the caps was not suffering the same problem. This may just be just my speakers or it could be the heat coming from the caps as they are breaking down and affecting the glue. I did clean it all off though.

I own a pair of Rokit 5 RS2 and one of them is kicking up a fuss. I suspect that the issues I will face when I open it up will be similar to what you have shown us here, so I am grateful to see inside and what to expect before I actually crack it open. They are a fabulous set of speakers and well worth reconditioning. I was a bit confused by what you were saying when testing the amp output and having to attach power to a mute? I do not understand that part.

GOOD NEWS: the newer model Rokit 5 G3 does not feature the same black goop on the boards! They found other ways to minimize vibrations. The preamp and main amplifier are now on one circuit board. The circuit board is now flat against the metal plate, and is the same board that has the knobs on it. Between the knobs and the metal panel, there is a foam gasket for vibrations, protecting the board instead of the goop! The transformer is mounted on rubber pads as well. My capacitors seem to be fine as well!

I have the same kind. Power surge has caused one speaker to not produce sound. It powers on ok. Any ideas?

That's great for new KRK buyers. However, my next pair of speakers definitely will not be KRK after seeing all the black shite all over the board. It's corroded the absolute crap out of everything. These speakers should have lasted years and years. Very disappointed with this.

I am trying to follow your video and purchased some 1000uF 35v 105C as my "bigger" one (of the two 1000uF 35v 105C) is bulging. As you note in your video they are different sizes and the one i purchased match the smaller size. In your video you look to be using a larger (blue) size. Should I purchase those? And how can i find them?

I believe you can still find replacement drivers online for the Rokit 5 2nd Gens. They are not very difficult to replace

Hello! I blew 3 fuses in a row as soon as I changed them and turned on the speaker -- would ordering a new power supply solve the problem or could another issue elsewhere cause the fuses to blow as well? Thank you!!!

​@@feedback-loop Yes ,i do hear a little bit of difference beetween class D and clasa A/B ...i had this old amplifier with Power Transistors 2N2035 witch sound awesome at that time and it was only 35w per channel and he had a 2x12" or bigger speakers pe box , i think he was released in year 2000 ...........and yes i do hear the differrence between G3 and G4 on youtube
