The greenhouse needs a lot of light. The new trees may contribute to evershadowing it. ❤

Also how about ventilation, those windows are fixed in place( I see no handles), and no thermal mass storage. So the heat of the day will quickly be gone in the night. Some Bricks or Barrels with water will do the trick cost effective. Passive Heating would have been nice, but I guess that is just much digging or splitting rocks in that location.

So I'm not the only one who thought they are a bit close to the greenhouse.

I've also been wondering about this. The greenhouse seems positioned for shade in the morning, and adding trees that might block even more sunlight in the afternoon. I thought at first he was going to plant shade lovers, but tomatoes are sunlovers. I wonder if there's an optical illusion and the trees are farther from the greenhouse than they look on camera? That's the only explanation I can think of.

A fig tree would take over that greenhouse, they grow fast and wide. Find a nice sunny spot outside for the fig tree and just wrap it in the winter. This is what we do in the cooler parts of the US and even Canada and they do just fine

@gregfarz78 I planted a fig tree a few feet away from the greenhouse (outside) and the roots grew under the greenhouse frame and took over the composted beds on the inside. Within two years I had to cut it down. They do grow fast and can get pretty invasive if planted to close to structures, etc. Needless to say I had to start over with the beds in the greenhouse.

A random reminder of how much effort truly goes into making these magnificent videos. Take as an example the very last shot with Martijn riding his bike up the path: It's not just "Martijn filmed this nicely". It's "Martijn rides his bike up the path, always with a mind for an interesting shot. Martijn identifies a potentially interesting scene. Martijn gets off of his bike and sets up his drone. Martijn flies the drone up and finds a good framing for the shot. Martijn sets the drone to film, then rides his bike through the scene. Martijn stops the bike and flies the drone back down. Martijn packs up the drone and continues on his way. Always with a mind for the next interesting shot". Repeat this process several times per day. Sometimes with a drone, sometimes with a camera stand. Not to talk about him not being happy with the first take and retaking it potentially multiple times, e.g. riding the bike back down out of frame and up the path again. Then put on top of this all the effort of sifting through the large amounts of usable shots, identifying just the best sequences that make for great storytelling and look great. Possibly leaving out some shots he put a lot of effort into filming, because they don't fit the overarching tone and narrative of the current video. Now add the whole topic of audio. Drones are loud and their audio recording can't be used as is. So at least every drone sequence needs to get a new meditative audio track picked and laid under it. This is all just a very rough overview of what it take to produce these videos. Even when you have a team of people dedicated to one single aspect of videomaking, that's a big effort. Reducing every role into one person is just so much more impressive.

Watching great old movies at dinner time every night is a good practice for developing knowledge about framing shots, editing, and cinema in general. And, of course, going out on a hot new bike to explore more terrain helps prick the imagination for further storytelling. And it all obviously pays off, thanks to KZbin.

Advice. Plant the fig tree now in a sheltered but sunny place. At the end of October, wrap the whole tree with straw and plastic. It will take 4-5 winters wrapping, then it will be ok.

I was gonna suggest planting it in a oversized container as to have the option of moving it because figs can grow wide not only tall and I think it will overtake the greenhouse. The roots are prolific you’ll be surprised on how much you will need to cut back.😊

@@Theselfiechick That's true. I have figs on the mountain land, they grow as a bush at the beginning, but after 4-5 years, you choose one strong to create a tree, the rest chop in early spring or in October. His fig is already created as a tree, so he needs to choose a place outside, definitely not inside the greenhouse, planted in a deeper hole and water it regularly. It's important the first 4-5 winters to protect the tree from freezing. Where I live we have a cold below -15 C and I have two different fig trees surviving very well. Just made jam and compot (figs in syrup)

A bit surprised you didn't consider putting the apple trees near the chicken coup as when the trees mature they could affect the amount of light for the greenhouse; not to mention that chicken love rotting apples - friends of mine used to let their chicken flock free range under their orchard. Just a thought from another gardener who is always concerned about the amount of light in a limited environment. As always an enlightening, relaxing, and welcomed episode.

From watching the property during different hours of the day, it seems like the best place to put a greenhouse would be the bottom part of the meadow. Around where the solar panels are or lower. With the long winters it would probably produce sooner than up next to the shadow of the high trees. But maybe it will still be alright. Its looking great though!

Love watching the greenhouse come to life, with a whole cluster of exterior plantings to settle it into the landscape.....I'd like to see a lemon tree in a large pot, so it can be moved into the greenhouse for wintering over. A few years back, we stayed in a villa near Orvieto, Borgo Tre Querce, and they had the potted lemon outside. The old stable had become a large sitting room, which kept the feeding trough the length of the room, and the arched doorways were all glass. It was such a pleasure to stay there.

I was afraid to comment on the suggestion of getting an electric bike when you had your car repaired and used your bike to get back up the mountain. Thought it might be insulting to a degree considering your general approach to life. So was pleasantly surprised that you bought the new bike. Cheers.

Chive flowers: rinse the flowers, dry then break up over salads for a delicious light onion flavour. Chive blossom vinegar: collect 1 cup chive blossoms, rinse, place in screw top jar, cover with vinegar (white will do), push down flowers until covered, screw lid on, date it, store out of sunlight at room temp for 2 weeks, strain vinegar, compost flowers. Use on salads as a dressing. It will have a lovely vibrant pink colour.

The shot at 33 min of you racking the flagstone seems right out of a fantasy book. Really nice to start with you coming out the door and sharing the weather. This one seemed more relaxed of your time and ending with a bike ride. Great counter-point to other videos. Cheers & all the best!

There is nothing better than living in a very beautiful place and appreciating it, and that's what you're doing. I liked your greenhouse very much. The place you live in looks like our Black Sea. I have an exam, I'm studying for it and I watch videos like this from time to time, I came across you for the first time. You have inspired me and I want to build a greenhouse like this when I go home, I hope it comes true. ☺

This might be my first comment in these years of watching... Mountain bike - YES! I bet the biking is glorious around you. I would love to have the trails you'll have access to on my doorstep. Please do us all a favour and wear a helmet would you? If not for yourself, for your avid viewers. We all cherish your videos far too much for them to come to an abrupt end. I mountain bike a lot and it's always the slow speed, silly crashes that hurt the most. I don't think the "safety buff", or "protective headscarf" would be up to the job if called into action. 🤪 Ok, sorry, lecture over. Thanks for all of your videos, I shall continue to watch, in awe of the life you lead. Cheers buddy, Al.

I also live in the mountains in Piemonte and the e-mtb is a delightful way to explore off road. Anyone who thinks it is not still a good workout should try one of these for a few hours off road. Still have to work but can ride a lot further, up steeps which would otherwise have to walk.

Martijn, if you go back in this video to 39 minutes, there’s a beautiful view of white chicken in the deep green grass, and you in the background carrying the gate. To me, it would make a beautiful still photo, if you can capture it. Another gorgeous hour in your and the chickens’ company, thank you.
