Oh yeah, don't kid yourself about Air BnB. I used to own a car service. My customers were Wake Forest University student who always wanted to go to Charlotte and Raleigh for events, concerts, the airports...etc. It was a great business, but it slowed down to nothing every summer when the students went home. So I used to rent Air BnB's down at the Outer Banks for my employees to use so they could make money running Uber on the islands. It kept my employees paid over the summer so they would stay with me, without me having to pay them out of my own pockets. One week of one summer, I needed a few bucks myself, so I went down with them. On the second morning, the owner of this place came knocking on the door to tell me that my guys had to "stop vaping" in her rental. I replied: "Wait a minute. Vaping leaves no odor. It's not like you walked by and smelled it. So, how exactly do you KNOW my guys have been vaping in the rental?" She stuttered, stammered and gave no clear answer. So I went inside and started the search. Sure enough, there was a camera installed right above the air conditioner. Further questions lead to the discovery that my guys had been dealing with that shit from EVERY BnB owner from whom I had rented, every summer. Air BnB ignored my complaint. They did not care at all. I stopped renting from Air BnB immediately, and never will again.

However I will say this we allowed Facebook and Tik Tok and all these apps to spy on us and yet their no real action to stop that As long as the camera is in a common area I don't have an issue. Bedroom, Bathroom that is an issue People put cameras in their home as a way to provide security and documentation of how it was before and how it is after. .

Your smartphone camera can actually pick up infrared LEDs. You can test this by pointing a remote control at your phone's camera and pressing one of the buttons on the remote. while I understand a host has concerns about theft, damage, liability to their property. I didn't realize they are allowed to do this without stating where the camera's are (that can include audio, so if you are making a private phone call, etc. it can be recorded), EXCEPT in places where people normally disrobe (bathroom, bedroom). I won't be using an hosting services again after realizing this. Plus it is so easy to hide a camera now (even the devices designed to find them are not very good, most of them just look for Wifi Access Points which can be a sign of a wireless video camera. you can do that for free with your cell phone, no 'special camera detector needed', but if the camera isn't wireless or has the SSID broadcast turned off...good luck finding it)
