I do agree that people can use this stuff for ill gains far too easily, but it is also great for home protection. When my grandparents passed away, my Dad installed several devices in their house to keep an eye on things as we lived in a different city while he facilitated the clear out and eventual sale. We managed to catch two guys attempting to break in through the conservatory. It was heart wrenching to watch, but without the footage they wouldnt have been caught and convicted.

This is a serious issue and many people don't realize how common it is. After it happens to you, you'll always be looking at everything differently, everywhere you go. It's a huge invasion of privacy and absolutely disgusting that people are allowed to buy these spy cameras. Very few people are buying these with good intentions. Go on these websites and look at how many have been sold too.... it's highly likely you've been recorded at some point without your knowledge. There needs to be some type of regulations or laws around these type of devices.

Not sure about the US and UK but in many other places in the world, purchasing or using those "spy camera" akin to those used by law enforcement or any other government agencies to spy on other's is indeed illegal. The issue is that these kind of equipment and devices are so widespread especially with the rise of the internet where people can easily find and buy anything online inconspicuously not to mention you can also order camera modules online to build your own spy camera in any shape and size you could think of.

Every time I go to a hotel I turn off the light in the bathroom before taking a shower and leave the door open just a couple inches for light to come in. I thought I was safe showering in the dark. I found a small camera with a circuit inside a detergent powder bottle in the washrooms of an institution that I went to. I secretly took it and checked the footage of the last 5 mins (I didn’t want to invade anyone else’s privacy, just mine) and sure enough it had caught everything I’d done. I know I got a ton of adds. Tried to disable adds but these low/ mid end phones you get what you pay for. :/ My wife has a Samsung Axx ( don't know the exact model).

Whenever you go into a new website and it asks you to allow cookies, you should be able to change your cookie settings. Only allow the essential cookies, because the rest allow the website to access your information & sell it to 3rd parties for ad targeting. Also, skim through the terms and conditions of apps you install, since some of them can be sketchy and mess with your device/access private files. I downloaded a bad app once that started putting ads on my phone. (You don't have to read all the fine print, just skip to the privacy section and you'll get all the info you need to know.) I have a Google Pixel phone, which I got new for $320 on sale, and I don't get any ads. But considering Google's reputation with privacy, I don't think it's the best choice if you want security.

This used to work a couple years ago but havent tested it lately. So--When looking for hidden cameras, if you can control the lights then turn them all off to make it darkish. Turn on your phone camera and point it around the room. If a hidden camera is there you will see a red light flash on your camera screen when it is aimed at the hidden camera.

You know, I've always known that was a thing, people putting spy cameras in restrooms, but I've never understood why. Like if they're looking to get off, a few seconds of someone taking a pee wouldn't do it for me, and I really don't think I'd like to watch anyone taking a shit. I think most people would just say no, because humiliation is not even close to worth $50, let alone 100. This is talking about bathrooms, where people do private stuff, not places like the main room of a hotel, where I personally do nothing. The only significant thing here is the USB thing, which is the reason I either use my phone, or a personal laptop with bluetooth and wi-fi off. Even with cameras, how are they gonna find your personal information with cameras with such poor quality and frames. (Personal perferences)
